This newly renovated waterfront log cottage with screened wrap-around porch overlooks Atkins Bay and is surrounded by woods at the end of a private lane. The complete kitchen features soap-stone counters and a stainless refrigerator. The new bathrooms have spacious showers, soapstone counters, pebble floor, and skylight. There are heated floors throughout the living area. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and private bath. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and shares the second bath with the third bedroom which has bunkbeds. The screened porch is perfect for lazy days of relaxation out of the sun or rain. The natural tidal waterfront on Atkins Bay is ideal for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing.
A few minutes drive and you are at the beach. The cottage supplied park pass provides entry to Popham Beach State Park where you can beach-comb, swim, sun-bathe, surf, walk, and hunt for shells and sand dollars. Further down the road from the park is historic Fort Popham at the mouth of the Kennebec River.
For those seeking more activities there are many opportunities to go golfing, day-sailing, shopping, antiquing, sight-seeing, and museum touring in the mid-coast region of Bath, Brunswick, and Freeport. A drive north along the coast takes you through Camden, a lovely seaside town with large old homes, and can end in Bar Harbor where one can enjoy the beautiful vistas from the carriage trails or get soaked at Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park.
In the evenings there are many musical and dining options. Brunswick is home to the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival and the Maine State Music Theatre. Local bands play in the town gazebos and LL Bean sponsors musical concerts under the stars all summer long. |
