My wife and I spend a few days at Ruffinit in early May and found the house extremely enjoyable. The views of the mountains to the west were just breathtaking with amazing sunsets. The house is very secluded and perfect for some well needed peace and quiet. The house is very well appointed, updated and provides just about everything you need to an enjoyable visit.
Recommended for:Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had an incredible time being together in the luxury and warmth of this cabin. It is in impeccable shape! The views were incredible; the weather awesome. In fact, we were able to sit on the screened-in porch to have coffee. We found the space to be very accommodating. The family room downstairs was ideal for the teenagers while the living room provided a great place for conversation and reminiscing. The kitchen is well-stocked with pans, dishes etc. Water pressure was excellent, roads well maintained. There is not a dishwasher but we actually enjoyed spending the time together washing, drying and putting away dishes. As the owner notes, the steps to the cabin are very step and not ideal if one has a health issue. Also, while the roads to the cabin are well-maintained, it is a bit of a drive and steep at times so a good vehicle is recommended. We didn't need 4-wheel but had it been snowing or raining that would have been a must. We spent a day visiting Boone and Blowing Rock which we found welcoming and quaint. In closing, it was a fairytale visit. All the details just fell into place.

We absolutely loved the cabin!! It was beautiful and the scenery was breathtaking! It was so relaxing and peaceful! We even had three deer come up to the house and just look at us up on the deck like they were so comfortable with us there. I would highly recommend this property, I already have someone interested in booking it for Spring they said. The place was immaculately clean. The owners thought of everything. It is stocked so well in the kitchen to make you feel at home. The owner was so kind to us and very willing to answer any questions. I can't wait to come again next year! The only thing is if you have any trouble with steps you would have a problem. Since you are on the mountain you have lots of steps to go down and and then back up to where your car is parked. I have trouble but I just took my time..

As others have written, this was a lovely cabin with great views. The screen porch is a delight - good place to enjoy a beautiful sunset even on a chilly evening. Everything we needed for the little bit of cooking we did was in the kitchen. The plan to stay at this cabin was a last minute one, however, Richard was very quick to answer email and to relate all the info we needed once he'd received the deposit. This is definitely a place worth returning to.

Cabin was absolutely gorgeous! Very well stocked kitchen/baths and screened in porch with breathtaking view exceeded our expectations. The well kept pond and surrounding area presented a great location for family photos. We experienced nature up close with chance encounters of wild turkey and graceful deer. We will definitely visit again.

This is an awesome cabin, with a beautiful view. Every night had a great sunset. If you wanted to see the sunrise you could just walk across the road. So quiet and peaceful but close to lots of things to do. We visited several winery close by and also found a lot to do in Boone, Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain. Since we were there in October the changing of the leaves were at different levels, depending where you were. Every day we could see the leaves changing more and more. We seen lots of wildlife while we were there. We came across plenty of deers, wild turkeys, squirrels and birds. I am glad we did not see any bears. Love the screen in porch especially at night. The nights were especially worth the view. So many stars. My husband brought his telescope but found one already there for our use. It was great to have WiFi and cellphone signals while we were there, even though we never turned on our computers. We would highly recommend this cabin if you want the peace and quiet. I will mention, there are alots of steps to get to the cabin, if anyone has problems going up or down steps I would not recomment this cabin. We did not have any problem with the steps. This is one of the best places we had stayed.

We just wanted to say thank you for letting us enjoy your cabin for our honeymoon! This place is quite the hidden gem and we loved the views and the cleanliness of your home! I sat on the screened porch in the rocking chairs and learned how to breathe with the world rather than trying to run and keep up with it. It was so hard to peel myself away from the porch with my Kindle to make it to any of the towns nearby but I am glad I did! We spent one afternoon in West Jefferson and then drove into Blowing Rock on our last day and had the best time!!! We enjoyed lunch at the Blowing Rock Cafe and walked the streets until we were hungry again and we had dinner at the Storie Street Grill -- Best Shrimp and Grits I have ever had!!! We returned to the back porch at the cabin for an evening class of wine to watch the moon drop. It is amazing how fast it drops in the night sky never realized that before -- Never had the view I had from your deck! Thank you again for allowing us to stay at your cabin and for answering all my many questions when I called --- I was embarrassed to call and ask after I had bothered you so much on the 4th, but we never could find the darts for the dart board :-) . I got beat so bad by my husband on the pool table I decided to forgo the darts anyhow! We plan to come back again SOON!!!!!!

We attended a dance competition in Wilkesboro and really just needed a place to sleep, well we got so much more. The house is beautiful, the view is spectacular. We are definitely planning on staying here again our next trip to nationals!!

My husband and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary in this lovely cabin. The layout was perfect and if you enjoy the outdoors like we do, it had an open patio as well as a screened porch, where you could enjoy the breathtaking views. The location was ideal: between Wilkesboro and Boone, and just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We are avid mountain bikers and only had to drive about 25 minutes to the trails at W. Kerr Scott. It was also in proximity to Grayson Highlands Park in VA and the famous Virginia Creeper Trail (a "must do"). I highly recommend this cabin. Richard was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. A+

If anybody is looking for a beautiful and restful place to relax and unwind - Ruffin' It is the place to go! We stayed at the cabin from 11/09 - 11/12 and enjoyed the fabulous fall foilage in the mountains. The view from the deck is breath taking and we have never seen so many stars at night. The cabin is warm and cozy, super clean, and well stocked. There is always something to do and the Blue Ridge Parkway is just around the corner. Ruffin' It is the perfect getaway in a perfect location. Richard was super helpful in answering our questions and I already recommended the cabin to our friends and family. I'm definitely hoping to be back for another stay.

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend at Ruffinit, and we can't wait to return for an even longer stay. The cabin has nearly everything you could ever ask for in a vacation home, from the spectacular view to the cozy furnishings to the gated community it's located in. Even though it rained most of the time we were there, we were never bored. We watched football and shot a little pool and enjoyed some great meals made in the well-stocked kitchen. We could even sit and rock on the screened-in porch and enjoy the sounds of nature without worrying about getting wet. It was simply one of the most relaxing weekends we've had in a long time. The cabin is a breeze to get to (even in the dark) and while you feel totally secluded (I don't think we heard a car go by all weekend), it's close enough to near-by towns that you can run out for a meal or to enjoy the sights. I would recommend Ruffinit to anyone!

We had a great stay at the Cabin. We stayed from June 11-14th and the scenery was worth the trip up the mountain. The rocking chairs on the porch provided a great place to start and end your day. If you are looking for a great place to get away, unwind and enjoy the quiet, this is the place. It is a little piece of heaven. I would rate the stay and amenities 10 out of 10. You will not be disappointed and will be ready to plan your next trip to Buck Mountain before you leave.

We loved staying at Ruffin It. The cabin was secluded and private with the most beautiful mountain views. It was beautifully decorated and the fireplace made it very cozy and comfortable. Loved sitting on the screen porch with our morning coffee planning our day. Spent a lot of time riding our 4 wheeler on the many, many scenic trails and there is even a waterfall. We also enjoyed the fishing pond.... Already planning our next trip!

This cabin was the perfect winter getaway. Beautiful scenery, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, and close enough to Boone for a day trip. The nearby waterfall was worth seeing, even in the snow. This cabin was private, comfy and cozy with great views--we wouldn't hesitate to return, or to recommend it to others.

We celebrated the week between Christmas and New Years at Ruffin It, and we loved it. The place is lovely, quiet, and cozy; and the views of the surrounding mountains are stunning (especially covered in snow!). It's sort of "away from it all" (which is great), but popping over into Wilkesboro or even Boone is not a hassle. Ruffin It makes for a wonderful retreat as well as a good base from which to enjoy beautiful Northwestern N. Carolina. We look forward to returning sometime!

The photos and description in your ad really do not do justice to the property! Used for MerleFest 2009, we found the house spacious and accommodating for our group. The sound system was great for enjoying our CDs, and the living room and deck were perfect venues for our own mini-jam sessions. Our greatest concern was over sleeping due to the total peace and quiet on Buck Mtn. With the shades drawn, the rooms are so dark you don't realize the sun is over the horizon. Great!

If you are looking somewhere to get away that is peaceful, quiet, and relaxing, then this is the place to go. My family and I enjoyed our stay at the cabin and my son enjoyed being able to ride the ATV and go fishing in the pond. This cabin has a very cozy feeling and the view is incredible. We are planning another trip already.
