My husband and I travel to Seattle from Ohio at least once a year (for 13 years now). We've never stayed by ourselves, since we have relatives and friends in the Seattle area. So this was our first time in a condo/apartment. Our experience could not have been better! The place was neat, clean, roomy, and had all the essentials for a week of living. And location? The best! We could walk to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, the bus, and even downtown (all down hill!). I am sure that we will try to stay here again...and again...

Perfect location. Private setting and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. I almost didn't post this review because I wanted it to be my little secret. Super affordable. I highly recommend it. Getting in was no hassle. Thanks Ian!

This appartment is very cozy and you can walk easily to downtown, bus stop is only two blocks away. I really loved the gourmet grocery store located just few blocks downhill. It is very clean and the pantry is well suplied. Hope you enjoy your stay as we did.

The condo/apartment is extremely spacious, nicely equipped kitchen, wonderful king side bed. It is conveniently located in the Capitol Hill area and is just four blocks off Broadway where there is shopping and a wide variety of restaurants. It is light and bright and well decorated. The only negative aspect is that it sits of the corner of a very busy street. However, the traffic quiets down considerably after 10 p.m. It can also be a bit noisy if you have a group above you in the larger apartment who are on the loud side (which we did). The building does not seem to be well insulated so there is not much that can be done to improve the noise factor. If you are over 50 (which we are) you may find it not as quiet as you might hope. I don't know that I would pay the extra money for a parking place....there seemed to be parking available most of the time on the street. Otherwise it is a wonderful place.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Owner response: Dear Feryl, Thanks for your review. If you are accustomed to living in the suburbs in a single family home then you will find our in-city location in an apartment building has more noise. I would describe 12th avenue E as a moderately busy street traffic wise and all the streets on Capitol Hill have foot traffic as it's a "walkers paradise". Kind regards Ian

My teen-aged daughter and I took a quick trip to Seattle and absolutely loved having this as our home base! it is so comfortable and perfectly located for walking and enjoying the city. There is a day bed in the family room, and plenty of room for her friend on one of the large and comfy couches. The place was spotless when we arrived and had everything we needed for our stay. Ian left information about places to eat, sightsee, and have coffee. We loved his recommendation for the Thai restaurant on 15th - it was delicious! And we didn't have a bad cup of coffee at any of the coffee shops around. Great people watching on Capitol Hill, and easy access to the freeway if you're heading to other parts of the city or over to the East Side. We will definitely stay here again - Seattle in summer is spectacular and this place is a gem!

Owner response: HI Katie, Thanks for your review I'm glad we were able to accommodate you on your visit to Seattle. Best regards Ian

I was looking for an economical, centrally located, clean, and safe place to stay while visiting Seattle. That was exactly what I got when I rented a unit at Harrison Modern. It is just blocks away from the downtown shopping district, but we fell in love with the shops on Broadway (less than a 2 minute walk). I parked my car in the driveway when we arrived and was able to leave it there our entire stay. We walked, rode the bus, or took very short taxi rides everywhere. It was simple and absolutely great! A taxi to Pike's Place Market only ran us $6.50. There is a grocery store and plenty of restuarants just 2 short blocks away. The unit was clean, comfortable, and modernly furnished. Everything was provided with regards to bedding and towels. There were plenty of towels for the two of us. The owner even provides laundry soap for your use. It was nice not to have to worry about all those things. Bottom line, I would stay here again in a heart beat. We had an awesome time and were comfortable during our whole stay.

We found the Harrison Modern to be a wonderful place, perfect for our family (my husband, me, our teenage daughter and her best friend). It was a great home base as we explored Seattle. The apartment was clean and had all the amenities we needed. We had some problems with our laptop in trying to access the internet, and even though it wasn't Ian's problem, he was incredibly patient with our phone calls trying to get things up and running (which we eventually did). We used the City Pass to hit all of Seattle's famous landmarks. In the neighborhood, we particularly enjoyed a delicious, reasonably priced sushi restaurant on Broadway and Roy. We did pay the extra for a parking space and found it made the experience so much easier especially when having to deal with parking at all the tourist spots during the day. Coming from a rural town of 500 people, Seattle was a big change for us. We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place to welcome us and use as and to begin and end each day. I would recommend the Harrison Modern to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Seattle. It was so much better than a hotel.

We arrived at the Harrison Modern to find an extremely attractive and comfortable apartment just waiting for us to enter the key code. We've never had such an easy access/registration experience. AS avid movie fans we were delighted to be able to plug in our laptop into the HDTV and drift off into movieland. Both dining and grocery shopping were very convenient whether you headed up or down Harrison Street. We especially enjoyed finding the Trader Joe's 4 blocks away, The kitchen was well equipped if a bit eclectic in the dishware department. The best rental is one were there is no need to contact the owner because everything was neat, clean and worked. This is one of those. We hope to be back soon.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Harrison Modern. The location was fantastic! All of our Seattle friends and family commented about what a great deal we got and were impressed by the location and style of the place. Having built-in parking made it oh-so-convenient. We were able to walk to grocery stores and restaurants as well as Volunteer Park. The kitchen had everything we neeed to prepare most of our meals in the apartment. The bed was very comfortable, and so was the pull out couch amazingly. We just had no complaints!

This will be a short review as I have little to say except great appartment, great location. In short, the description does not lie: the place has a nice spacious feel, it was very clean, a nice (huge) bed, etc, all as advertised. Probably the best thing about it for me was the location. Capitol hill has loads of shops, bars, restuarants etc a couple of blocks in either direction, buses downtown too. I think where it says "easy 15 to minute walk" to reach the aquarium, pike place market, space needle and all that list, it is supposed to say "15 to 30", realistically it took more like half an hour to get to downtown or the waterfront, this is still good going of course. Finally it was very smooth to book with Ian so all in all, highly satisfied, would definitely stay here again or recommend it to friends.

Owner response: Thanks for the review Stephen. Glad you enjoyed the location. Best Ian

My friend and I stayed for a week, we were at a convention at the Washington State Covention Centre. We brought our car but left it at the unit because it was such a nice walk to the centre. Took us about 25 minutes and took a different route each time. The accommadations were excellent. Clean, roomy, well equiped and the bed and the hide away bed were very comfortable. Seattle is a lovely town and everything is very close in the downtown area so you can walk easily to many things including the Pike Place Market. I would recommend this to anyone including my family and friends. I give it 5 stars.

We stayed in this unit for about three weeks during Fall 2011. We were in Seattle to visit our kids, grandkids, sister, and mother. Because it was an extended visit we wanted to have "a place of our own". We loved it. The location is unbelievable. Every morning it was a short walk to Broadway or 15th for coffee. It was the same short walk for groceries and some great restaurants. Our relatives live in West Seattle, Bellevue and on Capital Hill. We were right in the middle so it was easy to get everywhere. First impression was how nice and clean it was. The kitchen is well equipped. We were even able to have a family dinner at our house! The bed was comfortable and there was a good amount of storage. We loved the coded keyless entry so we didn't have to keep track of keys. Ian has lots of brochures and tourist information for those who are new to Seattle. Laundry facilities were right out side our kitchen door with nice modern machines and it was free (even provided the soap). The parking place was a huge plus as parking is very difficult in Seattle. Thanks Ian for having a clean comfortable place that we could call home! We make several trips to Seattle each year and we would definitely love to stay here again.

My husband, 20-month-old and I traveled to Seattle for a family vacation and chose this apartment based on its great reviews. I can't overstate how much we loved the apartment. The location is superb. We were able to walk to downtown in about 15 minutes and could easily take both the bus and taxis to any tourist locations. It's also within walking distance to anything you could ever need - coffee, food, groceries, beautiful parks, even an urgent care (unfortunately, we found this out the hard way when my son spiked a fever, but he's fine). The apartment itself is really tastefully decorated with all the amenities we could ask for. It even gave me a few ideas of things to get at home! We felt truly relaxed and at home and we really didn't want to leave. We will definitely stay here again if we ever make it back to Seattle. Thanks so much to Ian for providing a wonderful place to stay (and great recommendations for food..the pizza was fantastic)!

We were looking for an apartment outside of downtown and happy to find Ian's place in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The unit was in the perfect location. Close enough to downtown – an easy 20 minute walk “down” and back “up” on the way home (or about an $8-$10 cab ride). The neighborhood was really quiet and relatively safe. We had only 1 encounter with a happy drunk woman who wanted to hold our hands as we walked down 12th Street towards Pike. The Capital Hill neighborhood was perfect for us – only a few blocks down to Broadway with easy access to the QFC grocery store, restaurants (be sure to check out Table 219 for breakfast) and coffee (Vivace). You can also walk along 12th Street for some good restaurants (Barrio Mexican) and Wine Bars (The Local Vine). If you have no car and you’re not into walking, you can get easy access to cabs and buses only a few blocks away. There are many pluses to the Harrison Modern including free wireless access, roomy apartment, kitchen with fridge and shared washer/dryer facility. There are also several negatives that should be noted as well. ·The listing boasts “new bed” but I’m pretty sure the mattress was old because it was very uncomfortable and sags into the center....which lead to 3 pretty bad nights of sleep. ·The listing also boasts new HDTV but there seemed to be only 2 HD channels (maybe NBC and ABC) and no access to others that we wanted – i.e. ESPN, Comedy Central, etc. ·One of the two couches was a little scary with dirt stains so we kept to the other couch the entire time. ·The showerhead is really short so somewhat tricky/uncomfortable to take a shower. (I'm only 6'0") ·The unit does not include a dishwasher and the maid service does not clean the dishes in between stays. So, you have to rely on the (who were renting the unit prior to you) to wash the glasses, dishes and silverware appropriately and not just rinse them out with water and then stick them back on the shelf. Overall, I would give this unit 3.5 out of 5 stars. It gets high marks for location and space but losses a bit on some standard luxuries you receive with a hotel. I think the value was really great for the money but I would only consider staying here again if they get a new mattress that doesn’t sag in the middle.

Owner response: Thanks for your honest and frank review, I will look into the mattress and post the outcome - this is the first comment we have had with this mattress.

This place did have a nice location, was clean, had a decent price, and the owner was very friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Unfortunately, there were a few issues. The biggest issue was that the bed is awful, like the mattress was 20 years old and purchased at a yard sale. The pull out bed in the couch was even worse. The TV also looked about 20 years old and we weren't able to get more than 10 or 15 channels (admittedly we didn't spend much time trying to resolve this, and didn't contact anyone about it...we weren't in town to watch TV anyway). This place was still probably better than a hotel at the same rate, but as we discovered in the second half of our vacation, there are much nicer places for the exact same price. Investing a little money in better mattresses and a modern TV would go a long way into improving this place.

Owner response: The mattress is in fact 8 years old which I purchased new, flipped and rotated regularly as per the manufacturers’ instructions for the 10 year warranty. The pull out sofa bed is, well, a sofa bed. I provide an extra foam top pad next to the linens to make it as comfortable as possible. The T.V. is in fact 13 years old, and after checking my self, gets 18 channels. Of the 22 reviews on this apartment, 21 are 5 star rated, clearly making this review in the minority. This location is more than “nice” and the price better than “decent”! As far as “much nicer places for the exact same price” I say, show me!! I take a lot of pride in my building and business; I have slept in each of my VRBO apartments several times. I do not find the mattress or the TV a problem, nor has anyone else that has stayed. I appreciate HONEST feedback….. I have decided to replace the mattress as it’s nearing the end of the warrantee period.

We just spent 2 lovely nights in suite 1113 and had a great time. We've visited Seattle numerous times and have always stayed in one of the downtown hotels and walked up to Capitol Hil for shopping and dinning. So,the location of this apartment was great for us! Downtown is nice to visit, but, the dining options are not as good, and hotel and parking rates are much higher. The apartment was well appointed, the bed comfortable, and the CD collection a great blast from the past (90's)! On our next visit to Seattle we will definitely be staying here!

My husband and I stayed in this apartment for 6 weeks this year while he was being treated at Swedish Cancer Institute. It was a 6 minute drive for us to Swedish, what could be more perfect. We live 60 miles from this Capitol Hill location, but did not want to commute into Seattle 5 days a week. I looked at several apartments prior to renting from Ian. This was such a find. The apartment was so clean and comfortable which I loved, other rental opportunities were not. It was great to cook and do laundry in our own little place. We wanted to try to maintain some sense of our regular routine during this most stressful time. The location was so convenient for his daily treatments and had great shopping, restaurants, grocery stores, Starbucks, etc. within a few blocks. Capitol Hill is a charming neighborhood and very safe. It was perfect for us and Ian was very helpful in so many different ways. We had our car, but I believe Swedish would provide shuttle service to this location. I would highly recommend this as a great place to stay for others in our situation or those on vacation or holiday. Rosemary, Camano Island

Wow, cute, clean, home away from home, we loved it for what all it had. Walked and walked in your beautiful city and was able to catch the bus when ever we got tired and it brought us right back to the apt. No car needed, lots of shops and eatery near by and great coffee shops. Thank you and we had four days of sunshine while were there, we will come back with our children and rent the two bedroom next time. Thank you. Tom and Susan Fort Collins, Co

My family of four (two boys aged 10 and 8)thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Seattle in July. The condo was very conveniently located, and we loved that we could walk to the local grocery store, coffee shops, neat shops, and a faily easy walk to get to Pike Place and the Space Needle (though on a hot day, the walk back to the condo all mostly uphill was a bit tiring :). The condo was well appointed, and when we requested extra bedding for the sofa bed it was delivered promptly! Thank you for a great vacation stay!

Owner response: I would like to thank all our past guests for their wonderful comments. I am very lucky to have a great building in a super cool neighborhood. It is a fantastic feeling to get such wonderful feedback. Thank you, thank you, thank you. - Ian P

The Harrison Modern was so ideal for what I go to Seattle for. It was centrally located for touristy treks downtown (Pioneer Square, SAM, Pike Place Market) and days trips to the north and the islands (the U District, Edmonds, Whidbey Island); accessible to public transit; great neighborhood restaurants and shops. The apartment was clean, well-appointed, spacious and sunny. Just a perfect home away from home! I think I've stayed in my last Seattle hotel!

The Harrison Modern was a great place to stay. Convenient walk to downtown - pikes place market, space needle, etc... and also beautiful turn of the century homes in the area. Loved the little shops, groceries, and restaurants just a couple of blocks away. We would definitely recommend this place to everyone and would love to return ourselves. We loved Seattle!

Great apartment - terrific neighborhood. Definitely met our expectations for comfort and value. A guidebook about recommended places to visit and eat would put this over the top.

The apartment was spiffy and comfortable and the location was great. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed--all we needed! We were there for a family Bar Mitzvah and for my daughter to check out some colleges in the area. Except for the festivities we attended, we hardly explored Seattle, because the neighborhood around Harrison Modern was so hip and fun! Great restaurants and street life just two blocks on either side, but the apt. itself on a nice residential street. My daughter loved the neighborhood thrift stores!

It was certainly our good fortune to have found the Harrison Modern. We stayed here during the week of Christmas since our son's home could not accommodate all our family. It was just a 10 minute walk for us although a slippery one this year. We found the accommodations to be extremely comfortable and the decor very pleasing. It was spotless and had everything you could possibly want. We didn't spend enough time there to actually appreciate it to its fullest. This is an ideal location from which to explore Seattle. I'm sure we'll be staying here again in the future. Bev & Bruce Landrum, SC

We stayed in unit 1113. The location is fantastic and it was great to arrive to a super clean, fully-equipped, uncluttered, modern apartment. Kudos to the owners for such a great set up - everything was just perfect. Thank you

The Harrison Street apartment was a terrific choice for us. We walked to Seattle University, Pikes Market and Volunteer Park. The apartment was exceptionally clean and better than most 3 or 4 star hotels. Ian provides every convenience with extraordinary detail like metro bus schedules, maps, music CDs, current magazines and a well-equipped kitchen with coffee and filters. We had a wonderful experience and look forward to our next visit.

My husband and I stayed here for several days with two friends. It was a perfect experience. Ian is a spectacular host, the apartment was hip, immaculate, airy and extremely comfortable. We learned that we had stumbled into one of the coolest neighborhoods in Seattle after we arrived. We were a short walk to great parks, restaurants, coffee bars, gardens, you name it. We really couldn't recommend the Harrison Modern more highly and we'll stay there again the next time we find ourselves in Seattle!

I stayed here for almost two weeks with my wife and two young daughters. There was plenty of room and everything was spotless and well-stocked when we arrived. We always love having a kitchen when we travel. The kitchen here was clean and had everything that we needed for simple cooking. Ian, the owner, was great... and what eclectic taste in music he has! You'll understand when you see the CD collection. :) It's an excellent location: very close to a grocery and many, many restaurants. In two weeks we barely scratched the surface of what's available within just a fifteen minute walk of here. Granted, we were spending a lot of time away from the apartment, too. The only minor negative is that one of the streets it's on is pretty busy and the traffic seems to start pretty early, so I wouldn't exactly call it "quiet." To me, this is the price you pay to be in the center of so much activity. I'll take that trade-off. It was hardly ever an issue for us. We parked on the street and it wasn't bad at all. The furthest we ever had to park was about three blocks away and most of the time there was a spot on the corner. You won't be disappointed!

My son and I spent 4 nights in this 1-bedroom unit. It is very clean, and is attractively furnished with brand new furniture that has a sleek mid-century style. The bed was quite comfortable, and my son reports that the sofa bed was also comfortable. The bathroom tub, flooring, walls, and toilet all appeared to be new. The kitchen sink and floors appeared to be new. All were spotlessly clean. The unit is very well located just 2 blocks from the hip and busy section of Broadway that runs through the Capitol Hill district. The unit has a comfortable front porch and nice landscaping. Off-street parking was provided. The unit was ready for occupancy; owner had provided coffee so we could make a pot in the morning. A hairdryer was also provided. The kitchen had a stove, oven and microwave. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Seattle. This is an ideal location from which to visit this exciting city. Ian -- thanks for your hospitality.
