We stayed at the Old River Lodge from July 16 thru 24th. We have rented numerous homes in Maui, AZ, CA, & WA. All have been wonderful. This one was definitely NOT. Upon arrival we were not able to get into the house using the code provided. After numerous phone calls, we finally got hold of Lisa. She advised that she had been busy and didn't change the key code. When we went to use the hot tub, we found that it was cold. Called Lisa. She said she could be there in a couple of hours or could walk me thru resetting it. We did it. That took hours to heat up. She blamed the last tenants but made no apology. When we had talked to Jen (owner's daughter) about renting the house, we explained that there would be two small children. She said that there was a beach and the children could wade in and walk out to an island. We got there and there was no beach. There is a small dock. In order to enter the water, you must step off of the dock, onto underwater rocks, grab a broken pipe sticking out of the ground and climb into 5+ feet of water! Precarious for anyone and definitely not for children. We spent the week driving to the local beach. We had explained to them that there would be 4 adults and 2 children but that they would rotate in and out. Come Sunday, son and g/f were still there and other son and family arrived. Shortly there was a knock on the door and Lisa was there demanding to know why we had 3 cars in front of the house and how many people were there! We explained that there was only going to be 4 adults and 2 children there overnight. She went away. The following Saturday, we showered in the third floor bathroom. Prior to that we had only taken baths upstairs. Suddenly we had water pouring into the kitchen downstairs thru an area that had recently been patched. We called Lisa. She accused me of stopping up the toilet. I explained that the toilet was fine and it was the shower. She arrived an hour later and poked holes in the ceiling. This created quite a mess. She went upstairs and saw that there was no water on the floor and that the toilet was working. I explained that it appeared that it was the same area that had previously leaked. She was extremely upset and said she had to curl her hair and was going to be late to the Water Festival. My son told her to go ahead and he would clean up the mess. No apology. just don't use the shower! Told we will not get deposit back for a list of 'invented' infractions!

Owner response: We the respect this guest's right to vent her frustrations, however exaggerations that seem retaliatory do need to be corrected. We've just finished our investigation of the damage done by water flooding and damaging a ceiling. This guest chose to make many exaggerated assertions while waiting for our investigation to conclude. A thorough plumbing check completed yesterday has revealed a fault in our plumbing, and absolves the guest of any responsibility or deduction from her deposit refund. Please know that we never speak to guests as reported, saying we will be several hours before help arrives, or are to busy curling our hair, or any such thing, and that we try very hard to give every guest great customer service! Regarding this guest's comments about the dock and river access, we are actually thankful for her comments. The dock and river access has remained much the same since 1935. The pipe the guests says is "broken" was actually installed there in the concrete by the owner in the 1930's as a loop of pipe set into concrete that is used to secure boats. We do our utmost to be environmentally friendly, and try to be sensitive to the river's edge. However, as this guest suggests there probably modernizations that we could accomplish to the concrete dock, and we will plan that shortly, because it's our desire that all guests find their stays to be totally enjoyable. Hopefully this guest will have a better feeling about her visit after she learns that she was not responsible for the damage, and we look forward to completing our transaction with her shortly.

This house was great! It is well maintained and very clean. The kitchen was well stocked. The deck with hot tub was relaxing and offered great views of the river. I would definitely recommend this place to any of my friends. It was so nice for the six of us to have such a wonderful place to sit around and relax after a day of touring the Korbel Winery and the Armstrong Redwood Forest. We also enjoyed other wineries in the area and shopping in Healdsburg. We were wishing we could stay longer to enjoy tubing or kayaking down the river as we saw so many going by as we sat on the deck.

Six of us stayed at the "Lodge" and we particularly loved the deck. The views of the river were fantastic and we felt like we were in the forest. Outside of sleeping, we spent the whole weekend on the deck. The house is very comfortable and for the most part, has everything one would need for a great weekend with friends and family. Enjoy!

Excellent! We would love to come back and stay for Steelhead season sometime. The Russian River Kayak & Canoe race brought back memories from my growing years in Hldsbrg. The house was perfectly appointed, meeting all our needs. Keep up the good work, Lisa.

The Northwoods Lodge was a wonderful place to stay for us two couples to share while sightseeing and wine tasting! We pulled up to the house and were welcomed with soft lights on inside and the gas fireplace going. Everything about the house was cozy and comfortable, decorated in a charming way. This spot in Headlsburg is in a perfect location as your base for traveling around through wine country. We really liked the fact that we could make our meals at "home" after a busy travel day. The hot tub on the deck overlooking the river was fabulous! This is the second time we've rented from Wine Country Lodges and again, we were extremely pleased with the accommodations! We highly recommend this place!

We stayed in the Northwoods Lodge just outside downtown Healdsburg for a family vacation. The home was well kept and very clean. The owners provided useful information about area resources to help plan our visit. The owners are responsive to questions about the home and the process of booking the home was very easy. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly the owner returned our security deposit. We highly recommend Wine Country Lodges and plan to return in the future.

Great holiday rental, presented just as it had described itself on the net. Fab little place, hot tub, spotlessly clean, large enough for our two families to rub along nicely. Beautiful views from the deck, we were a little wary of the little ones near the fence though. Near enough to Healdsburg to enjoy the town and surrounding area.

My bridge group of 4 women stayed at the Northwoods Lodge for 4 nights in October to enjoy the wine country and some bridge. The accommodations were perfect. The interior is clean and well-furnished, the beds extremely comfortable, fishing gear provided, but the deck is the best feature. This is a quiet neighborhood which we appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner is very responsive; we had no worries with the reservation or follow-up. I highly recommend Northwoods for families, girl-friend getaways, fishing groups, and anyone who wants a quiet comfortable base for exploring the Sonoma wine country.

Your property couldn't possibly have been any better for our get-together. 3 of my friends and I were visiting the Russian River Valley to celebrate a birthday and this was the spot to do it right. The house was clean, beautifully decorated and fully equipped. We cooked most of our evening meals and had everything needed to prepare them. The huge deck is a plus - enjoying meals outside and taking in the fabulous river view. The proximity to town is great - a $15 cab ride - easy to go in an enjoy an evening and not worry about driving back. Healdsburg - what can I say except everyone should visit this beautiful town.

We had a great stay at Northwoods. The house is lovely but we barely spent any time in it because the deck areas -- the large deck immediately behind the house and the small one right on the river -- were so pleasant. Having kayaks on hand right at the cabin was also a huge, huge plus. Jill also set us up with baby supplies (a portable crib, gates, etc.) which made the transition to staying there with a ten-month-old much smoother. I recommend the Northwoods Lodge!

We had a ball and the house was perfect. We were impressed with the cleanliness, detail and charm. We had a great time. It’s beautiful country and I’m so glad that’s where Deb chose to celebrate her 50th. We’ve been best friends since high school and travel together often; this was one of the best trips we’ve done.I manage a 345 room hotel and consequently pay attention to detail and you certainly have what a guest wants nailed. You couldn’t have done anything better short of stopping the rain!

We came to Healdsburg/Sonoma county for my 50th birthday and stayed at the Northwoods and what a great place! The day we flew in on, April 9th, was a cold rainy day but how nice it was when we opened the door to find a cozy fire waiting for us! We were also very pleased on how nice, clean and beautifully decorated the home was and it had everything you needed! The view from our deck was super and relaxing in the hot tub is a nice touch after shopping in Healdsburg and wine tasting. And the beds are GREAT! We highly recommed this property for a group of 4 - we are already talking about our next trip back and staying here. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Northwoods! Our one regret was that we didn't stay longer (only 3 nights)! Next year we hope to come back and stay for a week so we won't feel rushed to see the wineries and the towns and surrounding areas. The lodge itself was charming. Very nicely rennovated, clean and comfortable (especially the beds!) The hot tub was perfect after a day of winetasting (altho we like it a little hotter!) And sitting down by the river sipping our wine was perfect. One of our group enjoyed the kayack, while another enjoyed fishing. I'm a bird watcher so I had fun spotting Ospreys, great white egrets, mergansers and Stellar Jays (thanks for the binoculars & bird book!). Our stay was both relaxing and stimulating! Probably the only complaint was that the directions to the hot tub weren't real clear, and at night you really can't see what buttons you're pushing. All in All we had a terrific stay. Thanks!

Three couples just stayed at the Northwoods Lodge and had a wonderful time. It was so nice to have our own private place to come "home" to after a day out visiting the wineries. At the end of the trip we spent two days in Napa. We were so glad that we spent most of trip in Healdsburg. It has great shopping, restaurants, and is small and quaint. The wineries are on quiet back roads with beautiful scenery. We hope to come back!

We had the best time at Northwoods! The home was immaculate, and just sitting on the tree-shaded dock was so interesting and peaceful I felt no need to do anything else. I just watched the osprey, Steller's jays, heron and other birds, saw glimpses of big and small fish, and listened to the bull-frog across the river. We'd never kayaked before, but it seemed so safe that we ventured out and had a wonderful time - except for my husband who capsized in the rapids around the bend downstream. We were so content at the house, with all its comfortable chairs to laze around watching the river from upstairs and down, that we barely left it to explore Healdsburg. That will have to wait for next time, because we'll definitely be back!

Thorougly enjoyable location and accomodations. Thoughtful provision of just about everything we could wish for; the fans were welcome in the bedrooms! We used and enjoyed the hot tub and kayaks, and sat in the riverside chairs to gaze at the stars and listen to the sounds of nature. It was nice to have the washer and dryer available. Because this was a "working vacation" for me, I would have preferred wireless internet connection at the Lodge, but on the other hand the daily trip to town to find a hot spot meant we sampled a lot of different coffee shops and cafes we might otherwise have missed. We thank you for the professional handling of our reservation and the helpful information in advance of our stay!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Northwoods Lodge and in Sonoma in general! The house is darling and had everything we could possibly need for our four night stay. The jacuzzi provided a relaxing end to our full days of wine tasting and the grill allowed us the flexibility to stay in, cook dinner, and enjoy the good wine we had purchased. We enjoyed a fire every evening - it made everything smell so good! The river was so peaceful and we even ventured out in the kayaks one evening. But we made a mistake and forgot our shoes - never forget your shoes! The little rapids meant we had to walk the kayaks back and the rocky shoreline is painful on the feet! We will definitely return, bring more friends and family, and try each of the other houses as well. We loved it - thank you so much!

What a wonderful cabin! Beautifully decorated and an awesome view of the river! Only suggestion would be to have fans in the bedrooms -- it was very hot while we were there (not sure if the whole house fan was working. Switch was in the on position, but never heard it go on). Otherwise a great stay! Thanks!

Owner response: We are very sorry about the record-breaking heat wave that occurred here during your stay (and across most of the nation), and hope you were still able to enjoy some vacation fun relaxing on the shaded deck and in the river... Once they were back in stock in the stores, we did purchase additional fans for each of the three bedrooms, which should help quite a bit for any future, abnormally high temperatures. Thank you again for your stay! Sincerely, Lisa Neisingh Wine Country Lodges .
