Minutes from beautiful Winter Park, Grand Lake and Sol Vista! Feel the tranquillity of the Rocky Mountains in this inviting 2200 square-foot custom log home. Enjoy the endless activities available in Grand County, then relax on the deck with a spectacular 180-degree, panoramic view of the Fraser Valley and surrounding mountains. Nestled in a mature, wooded slope, the house backs up to acres of undeveloped forest; no neighbors on either side. (SolVista Ski Area is over the hill.) It is common to see deer grazing on the property. Our home is private, but not secluded, just minutes to numerous activities.

Enjoy the view while surrounded by the natural beauty of log construction. The main level includes open living room/dining room (dining table expands to seat 8 plus 4 at counter), full kitchen, laundry room, full bath, and two bedrooms. The spacious master bedroom on the upper level has an adjoining bathroom. A sofa sleeper in the living room accommodates two more for sleeping. The basement includes a full bath, and mudroom for your gear, and an unfinished open space.

The Granby-to-Fraser Trail is within walking distance from the house. Don’t forget mountain climbing, classic Colorado stream fishing, lake trout fishing and other water activities. Why the Owner Chose SolVista

We love the central location between Winter Park and Grand Lake for our favorite activities throughout the entire year. Grand County is more relaxed and less crowded than other areas. Our children learned to ski at family-friendly SolVista Basin (five minutes away). What a great place for beginner skiers! Now we enjoy the challenges at WinterPark Ski Area (20 minutes). We are within 20 minutes of the resort town of Grand Lake for browsing shops, boating, snowmobiling, and entering Rocky Mountain National Park. Be sure to stop at the Grand Lake ice cream shop. My husband's high school classmate from Chicago is the owner!

The Unique Benefits at this House

Kicking back in the house with the fantastic views and the natural log construction is soooo relaxing! Each time we drive into the neighborhood and step into the house we are engulfed in the majesty of the Rocky Mountains and the quiet serenity of the sleepy Silvercreek/SolVista community. And all within two hours from Denver!

Owner's Map of SolVista

This photo was taken near the top of Byers Peak, Grand County, Colorado, elevation 12804 feet. I grew up in the wide open plains of the Midwest in Minnesota. After living in Colorado since 1980, the mountains never cease to amaze me. My husband was born in Montreal, came to Colorado via Chicago. Our co-owners are from Nebraska and consider Colorado "God's Creation".

The Total Package

Guest: Thomas (Little Rock, Arkansas)
Date of Stay: 12/17/11 Review Submitted: 12/24/11

Our family recently had the joy of staying in this log house for a pre-Christmas ski trip. We have spent many vacations in this particular area but have never rented a house... until now. It was awesome ! It was everything it was advertised to be and much more. The pictures on this webpage, although beautiful, don't do it enough justice. On previous trips, one of our favorite things to do was to eat out at the many great restaurants in the Granby/Winter Park/Grand Lake area. This trip changed that. We found ourselves preferring to eat our meals at the log house, in front of the picture window, overlooking the valley and the town of Granby. The view at night is just as spectacular. We found this home to be very clean and well-kept. All the beds came with their own electric blanket. The wood stove in the den will pretty much heat the whole house. Everything we needed for cooking meals was there, except the food, and that was only a mile away at the City Market. Overall, this was one of the best lodging experiences we've ever had.

Owner response:Thomas, It is gratifying to learn when our home so closely meets the needs/wants of our guests. We truly appreciate you spreading the word about your positive experience at the Log House Retreat!

Excellent location. Loved the privacy of the tall trees all around the house. Incredible views from U shaped deck. We all appreciated the ping-pong table in the spacious basement. Everything we needed was in the house. We've never seen an owner as clean and organized as Julie! Thanks a lot for letting us enjoy time from heaven in your house!

Owner response:You are welcome! Mmmmm....time from heaven....

Awesome Home and Getaway

Date of Stay: 07/27/11 Review Submitted: 08/05/11

This fabulous home is a captivating mountain retreat! Perfect in every way. Certainly a paradise found. One of the most impressive parts of this setting, is the ideal location. You are just a few minutes away from town, hiking, restaurants, horseback riding, Grand lake, and much, much more...........yet you feel like you are in the middle of a secluded mountain (quiet and serene) when you are relaxing in the cabin. Truly, your search has ended!!! We will CERTAINLY be back!!

Owner response:Ladies, those were our exact thoughts when we purchased the home so many years ago! Do come back - we're pleased the house worked so well for you!

July 2010 review.

Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 07/19/11

We spent two nights at this property and thoughly enjoyed our stay. We had friends from Michigan staying with us for a wedding at the Y camp, and they also enjoyed the cabin, the area and the views. We had deer each morning to greet us as we got up. I would recommend this property to friends/family for this area. We found the cabin clean, and with adequate supplies. We loved the location. It was rural, but close enough to amenities in the area.

Well, I hate to write this because now the world will know about this listing and it will become more difficult to rent this wonderful house!! Immaculate, well stocked, comfortable, and the setting is just beautiful. The location is so very central to everything Grand County has to offer. Sitting on the wrap around porch watching sunsets, having morning coffee, evening wine, or simply soaking in Colorado is a little slice of heaven. It is a wonderful place for families or couples. The only thing we would change is to not have to leave. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!!

Owner response:Trudy, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. You captured the essence of the Log House Retreat!

The best house we've rented in the US!

Guest: Denman (United Kingdom)
Date of Stay: 02/03/10 Review Submitted: 11/27/10

We just loved the Log House Retreat and wished we'd booked for a week rather than four days. The location was perfect for us as it was only a short drive to Winter Park and the views across the valley were wonderful. We had two great powder days and one sunny day in perfect conditions which was great! Skiing in Winter Park is awesome and it only takes about 30 minutes to drive there from Sol Vista. Our tip is to park at Mary Jane rather than the main Winter Park area - it is quieter and you don't need to queue for long to get on the lifts. The house itself is simply stunning. The photos do not really show just how great the Great Room is and there is so much space. The property was in immaculate condition and is obviously beautifully cared for by its owners. The owners were more than helpful with all our queries. Our friends were thrilled when they arrived at the house after a long flight from England. We were so comfortable there we decided to eat in every night rather than going out to find a restaurant. The kitchen was so well stocked that it was a pleasure to cook. (The only thing that was missing was a kettle - but we Brits do like to drink a lot of tea and the kettle is always on at home!!) To come back after skiing and find deer in the garden was a joy - they seemed pretty tame. We decided it was by far the best house we've ever stayed in in America (and we'e stayed in lots) and would recommend it to any of our friends without hesitation. I imagine that it must be wonderful there in summer too. There is a supermarket not too far away but if you are looking for lots of nearby restaurants this may not be the place for you. However, we didn't want to go leave the property apart from when we went skiing. It is a real home from home.

Comments from stays in Nov. 2009, March and June 2010: We had the perfect Thanksgiving in your beautiful log cabin. Thank you for sharing! We loved the wood stove, the ping pong table, and the beautiful views. We are hoping to return soon! Another great visit at your gorgeous log home. We had a great time! We had our grandparents come with us and they live in Atlanta and aren't the "out-doorsey" type and they loved it!

We had a wonderful vacation. The location of the cabin was perfect. We came up for a wedding in Estes Park which isn't too far and then were also able to enjoy the Alpine Slides in Winter Park. We saw a doe and two fawns. They let Adam get close enough to take a picture!
