Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
The fragrance of plumeria drifted across our lanai as I listened to the palm trees rustled by the trade winds. This Bear adventure brought us to the Hali’i Kai neighborhood located in Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Kohala Coast.
The moment we stepped inside this beautiful condo, my Bear family and friends felt the luxurious comforts of our “home away from home”. There were two full bedrooms and bathrooms (plus, extra sleeping on the pull-out sofa). The beds in this home were so comfortable, this bear wanted to sleep in most days! Each room had fans, but the cross winds kept everything at very comfortable temperatures. The kitchen was fully appointed to allow cooking a large meal, a quick snack, or just enjoying early morning coffee out on the lanai. Also, each room featured a flat screen TV for entertainment. However, with so many things to do in this incredible location, we found ourselves enjoying the outdoors most of the day.
The owners provided a closet of beach towels, chairs and coolers. Simply bring your snorkel gear and head north to one of the islands greatest snorkel spots at “Hapuna Beach” for a day of boogie boarding, snorkeling and frolicking in the crystal clear water. My bear family and friends did much sightseeing during our vacation. We snorkeled at several beaches and recommend Kealakekua Bay, kayaking to Cooks Monument and the black sand beaches of Punalu’u. We drove around the Island to Hilo, explored the Volcano Park, walked through the giant lava tube, & hiked a few of the many trails. Enjoy golfing and tennis? There are 3 Waikoloa golf courses and tennis courts located right near Hali’i Kai! Plus, a wide variety of great restaurants and shops were located right in the Hali’i Kai resort area. We ventured out a few nights to sample some authentic Hawaiian cuisine.
This condo combined the true elegance of Hawaiian style and convenience of modern life. It had everything we needed for the “beary” best vacation. There was so much history, culture and adventure nearby and this condo was the perfect place to start from for all we wanted to see!

This complex and condo are the perfect combination of Value and luxury. We knew we loved the property, but more than that, we knew all of our guests would be very happy with how the unit is furnished and the uniqueness of the Ocean Club. It can't be beat.
The Unique Benefits of this Condo
My Wife and I have stayed in many VRBO condo's in the past. We thought most of them had at least a few clever ideas. We took everything we learned and made sure our condo had it. It is not only a rental unit for us, but more importantly, it is our first and only "second home".

This condo was a terrific find on a number of levels. First, for those of you who may be hesitant to rent direct from the owner, those fears can be put to rest here. We vacationed for the month of February at this condo and Gord provided us exceptional customer service. He was easily accessible and a couple of requests we had were addressed the very same day. From emailing us a link to up to date weather forecasts during our stay to returning our deposit within the first week we got back, his thoughtfulness and professionalism were appreciated. The condo and complex was excellent quality, the view off the lani beautiful and the people working at the complex terrific. Thanks Gord and Beth for contributing to what was a very special vacation for us. We shall return.

The condo is very nice, in top shape, and fully equipped. The patio has a great view. Hali’i Kai is a wonderful development with an unbelievably nice pool area. Gordon is an extremely responsive owner who tries to accommodate renters’ requests. When an item in the condo needed a repair during our stay, Gordon had a repairman show up within a couple of hours of us reporting the problem to him. Overall, a great place to rent with a very caring owner. Highly recommended!

I booked this beautiful unit for my parents and their friends. I went to big island with them to check them in so i had a chance to view this place. It was a beautiful and quiet unit with a very nice decor inside. I am very picky and i did alot of research for my parents and this worked out great. It usually looks better in picture than actually place but this place proved me wrong.My parents were extremely happy with it as well and they didn't want to leave! I highly recommend to everybody. We made a last minute reservation and couldn't have been happier. It was an excellent place to celebrate a 50th birthday and a 25th and 30th wedding anniversary. We have rented many condo's in Hawaii and this was by far the best. Gordon provided superior customer service and it was a pleasure to do business with him. The condo was perfect for 2 couples. It was spacious, nicely decorated and had everything one could possibly need-it was also very well maintained and exceptionally clean. We all tried to think of anything missing or anything that we would change and came up with...nothing!! It was really perfect in everyway. We enjoyed the sunset and ocean views from the lanai, as well as, the BBQ grill. This second floor unit was very quiet with absolutely no traffic noise. The staff we encountered were all friendly and pleasant. The pool area (about a 4-5 minute walk) was great-loved the lily pads. We ate at the pool-side cafe twice and would recommend it. We spent our next week on Maui wishing we were back at Hali'i Kai!!

Nice place. As nice as or nicer than the pictures and description make it appear. Great location. Beautifully furnished. 9-foot ceilings, nice 4-inch baseboard moldings, mahogany (I think) cabinets, lots of natural surfaces like tile and granite. Walking distance (not right next door, but maybe five mins) to beach club/pool. Arguably the nicest complex in Waikoloa. You can literally watch whales while you swim at the pool or work out in the fitness center. Also, unit does have a pullout coach that was very comfortable. Very modern and high-end look and feel -- this is NOT a mid-70s or early-80s vintage high rise unit with crummy furniture or cheap finishing touches. It is only a couple of years old, and has everything you would expect in a "luxury" unit. Nice touches include beach towels, a full collection of spices and nice cookware, a coffee grinder, boogie boards, a weber gas grill on the veranda, and other recreational equip like tennis racquets and beach toys. Gordon was great to deal with. Called and talked to me for probably an hour about the area, things to do, etc. I think the price is great for this unit given the amazing view. You can find other stuff for less, but not with this view and this level of luxury. The only minor drawbacks I can think of... 1) Be aware that you can't just walk to the beach -- you really need to drive there. You can walk to the COAST, but it is too rocky for swimming near the condo complex. You can also walk to the Hilton and use that beach -- probably a 15-minute walk along a public trail. 2) The fitness center is beautiful, and we really did watch whales every day, but it isn't a full gym. Nice Life Fitness cardio equipment and flat screen TVs, but no free weights or machines. One combination machine that was barely adequate. Nice, well-maintained equip, just not a lot of it. We are seasoned Hawaii travelers (over 20 trips the past 15 years) and we looked around a lot before we committed to this unit, and we looked around a lot more once we were there, thinking ahead to our next trip, and Gordon's condo would be our first choice again.

January 2010 Gordon and Beth are wonderful hosts and you can be sure that your experience will only be enhanced by the care and attention to detail they take in ensuring that you have everything you need during your stay. There are no words to describe how lovely the accommodation and amenities are...that pool is by far the best we have ever had the luxury of lounging around and those pool pods – very cool! We spent many a wonderful evening out on the lanai using the Weber BBQ – my husband has to now get a light on his like the one at 6D Hali’i Kai! We normally travel to Maui which we enjoy but we were thrilled with our adventures on the Big Island. We were fortunate enough to swim with spinner dolphins by the City of Refuge ( a truly incomparable experience) and to hike down to one of the most spectacular black sand beaches in the Pululu Valley at the North end of the island (be sure to stop at the Bamboo restaurant in Hawi on the way back). Watching the last sunset of 2009 down at the Beach Club sipping on one of those extremely effective Mai Tai’s was a memory the whole family will remember. Boogie boarding at Hapuna was a blast and we have left an additional boogie board at the condo – have fun with it. We sure look forward to riding it again soon. At the end of each day we returned to our very own paradise at the Hali'i Kai. What a great way to start a new decade...Aloha!
