WELCOME TO PARADISE!
Pictures of paradise are just pictures, but they are all we have to show you. That's why it is so important for you read our testimonials. 100% FIVE STARS. What better way is there to really know that your stay will be exactly as advertised?
PARADISE is an experience, or rather, a mix of experiences that involves memories, emotions, and all the senses. Ixtapa shares the same latitude as the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Welcome to the Tropics! As you browse through our pictures, please add your own seashore soundtrack, the feel of tropical breezes on your skin, and the bouquet of lush tropical gardens. Imagine slipping into one of our blue-tiled infinity pools or settling down with a good book, in the shade of a poolside pergola or at one of our private palapas on the beach. Imagine hooting with abandon as you dash into the warm, crystal-clear, Pacific, or holding hands as you stroll barefoot on Ixtapa Beach, on a balmy, moonlit night. Its all here.
AGAIN, READ OUR TESTIMONIAL. Some start with “Wow!” and wow is about right. After six years, three vacations per year, we still find ourselves thinking “Wow” every time we open the front door. You will too. WE PROMISE.
AS YOU ENTER, you realize that the wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, glass doors plus the glass balcony walls, completely blur the line between being indoors and outdoors. This is true of our beachfront suites as well. ONLY 12 OF 90 AMARA CONDOS have balconies that extend to the bedrooms, and of these, only 6 are on the 14th floor, tucked in the tropical shade of the penthouse patios above. Only a few of these 14th floor condos are available for vacation rental and, of these, ours is centered, away from the large hotels at either end.
THINK OF THIS PLACE as an open-air, 2,200 sq ft, observation platform. Here, you can watch the sunset from the living room couch, from a King-sized bed in a master bedroom, from a lounge chair on the balcony, or from a seat at the dining room table. And please, don't forget our sparkling sunrises, and impossibly romantic moonsets.
BEST OF ALL, the condo is continually awash in fresh onshore ocean breezes (daytime) and cool, earthy, offshore breezes (nighttime). Since the Amara has no hallways (hence the private elevators), the ocean breezes come in through the oceanfront glass doors and leave through the mountain view windows in the kitchen and Queen bedroom suites. You control the amount of breeze flowing through all the rooms, simply by narrowing the openings of the mountain view windows. Imagine that!
No smoking anything inside or on the balcony. Use the stairwell if you must light up. Be discreet. Administration has been instructed to evict, without refund, and with help from our Security staff if necessary, any renting party whose violates this rule....moreless

Our Queen Suites, each with private bath, have sweeping views of Ixtapa's vibrant, city lights. The jungle-covered Sierra Madres serve as a lush backdrop for all views of this quaint, beach resort town. Queen suite occupants can also see the sunrise over the hills that (mercifully) separate Zihuatanejo from Ixtapa. Directly below, one can see the lush, Ixtapa Botanical Park and the paved bicycle path that extends as far north as Playa Quieta and as far south as Zihuatanejo....moreless
ACTIVE COOLING…………………………………………………………………… Central A/C with separate fan units, digital remotes, and thermostats in each bedroom. The living area also has a separate thermostat and remote control. PASSIVE COOLING……………………………………………………………………… When we arrive, we push aside all six, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors on the ocean/beach side of the condo and, for the most part, leave them that way until we depart. Secure and private on the 14th floor, above mosquito airspace, and at the same latitude as the island of Kauai, who needs glass? We control the incoming breeze through different areas of the condo, by adjusting the amount of outgoing air through the large sliding windows on the mountain/town/golf course view side of the condo. When the winds reverse to offshore (at night), we reverse the process, opening the mountain view side windows wide open and partially closing the bedroom sliding glass doors to the balcony. We also have motor driven blinds in the living room and din...moreless

Here, it is called a 'palapa', and there is none better situated, more private, more intimate, or more beautifully built (rope-lashed/poles) around. Please see the photos. Soley for the use of Amara's owners and guests, it serves as a gathering place for card players, laptop users (wifi), readers, peoplewatchers, (the cabana is 10 feet above the edge of the beach) and folks just enjoying a tropical drink, juice, soda, or snack. We provide mixed drinks, beer, wine, soda and snacks AT OUR COST to ourselves and our guests (you). 'Cost' is the price our bartenders pay at the local grocery store, plus a little additional to defray their wages. Just sign a tab. Adminstration will have you settle up before you check out, or failing that, we will bill your credit card. Amara tradition is to show up at the cabana just before last call (Sunset), and raise a glass to The Creator for producing another visual miracle. Soon after, and not one drink after sunset, the cabana closes for th...moreless
We are fortunate to be among the 20% of Amara's owners with a full-length lanai (covered balcony) and even more fortunate to have purchased on the 14th floor. Our floor is well above the older, 12-story beachfront highrises in the Zona Hotelera and that provides us with views over the rooftops. We can see Troncones, Marina Ixtapa, the Playa Marina Golf Course, Isla Grande, and so on. The see-to-forever view is unobstructed up and down the beach, as well as straight out to the islands and beyond. The view, the sea breeze, the ocean sounds, and the smell of sea air, mixed with the constant bouquet wafting from Amara's tropical flower gardens, is a mixture just right catching sunsets, doing some whale or dolphin watching (we provide binoculars), watching the 'sunset cruise' yachts slip down the coast, watching the first rays of morning 'spotlight' the salmon-colored, all rock islands off shore. The balcony is also a great (even better) spot at night. You can view the beach sky...moreless
Amara Ixtapa has THREE beautiful, crystal-clear, blue-tiled, pools. The family pool (enormous) and the adults-only pool (quiet and private) have infinity edges that are just six feet above the beach. You can watch the surf and passersby as you keep cool in the pool. The third pool is our circular kiddie pool. It has nice lounging accomodations for Mom and Dad. Each pool has its own set of partial and full-shade pergolas that allow you lounge and read with just a hint of tanning sun. Between the family pool and the adults-only pool (see pictures), stands our beautiful, open air, Amara Home Owners Association bar/snack bar. Our bartender(s) charge you what they pay for refreshments at the supermarket plus a little more to offset their Amara Home Owners Association wages. A beer is a little more than a buck. Please these individuals as you would for a full price drink. Sign a tag for our room. Administration will reconcile your bar/snack bar tab with you before you leave....moreless

On our beach we have, parasailing, banana boat rides, jet ski rentals (go early for smooth jetting), massage tents, plus a sparkling clean ocean with a clean sandy bottom and beach. At the marina you can go deep sea fishing, scuba diving, or dine right above the water. At the Amara, we have an air conditioned weightlifting/aerobics gym, paddle tennis courts, full tennis courts next door (by arrangement at Sunscapes), and three crystralllne, blue-tile swimming pools with a private poolside bar and grill. At Playa Quieta, take a water taxi to Isla Ixtapa for a day of hiking, tidepooling, swimming snorkeling, sunning and dining. Or, take the Picante Sunset Cruise out of Zihuatanejo. Ixtapa has nice beachy boutiques, great restaurants, bars, clubs, atms, car rentals, bike rentals, scooter rentals, bike paths, grocery stores. In short, all the conveniences. While in town, swim with some dolphins at the Dolphinarium, cool off at the water slides, go horseback riding, scootering, and bicycling with your kids. But best of all, just hang at the Amara. You will find it tough to leave the shade of the poolside pergolas. The ocean breeze, the garden fragrances, the sound of the surf, a good book, and a nice cold beverage can zap the wanderlust right out of you.

About the owner: Sandy and I just love this place. We share it with our friends and family and we share it with people who will appreciate and preserve what we have here; a uniquely private, quiet, luxurious, hideaway midst one of Mexico's most sought after (by Americans, Canadians and Mexicans) vacation regions. Zihuatanejo is a great place to visit, dine, window shop, and shop for necessities, but we breath a sigh of relief EVERY time we take the short, beautiful, drive back home to Ixtapa where the open ocean water is crystal clear and the sea breeze keeps the tropical sun at bay and the air clean. Sorry to say, Bahia de Zihuatanejo, one of the most miraculous bays you will ever see, has been overwhelmed by 75,000 permanent Zihuatanejo city residents and a million tourists per year. The long narrow bay with its spectacular, mountainous perimeter and narrow ocean outlet, traps smoke, dust, contaminate waters, and exhaust inside the bay, creating daytime smog and night-time inversions that never allows the breeze off the Pacific to chase away the evening heat. Locals will not get in the water within 24 hours of a significant rain because of ear and skin infections. Heartbreaking for me because my first (surfing trip) visit to Zihuatanejo was in 1970, when a rocky creek bed was the only route from Highway 200 to the bay, and the only place to get a cooked meal was at a corrugated steel shed, right above the high tide line. Playa Las Gatas, now lined with restaurants and served by a steady stream of launchas and pongas, used to be a fun little right hand break, now ruined by a breakwater and landfill. Gosh...
Why the Owner Chose Ixtapa:
The Amara is one of the nicest, most exclusive, uncrowded, well-run, secure, pristine condominium complexes on the Mexican Riviera. Our guest testimonials leave little doubt that our 14th Floor condo is one of the most, spectacular, best equipped vacation rentals around.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Nothing could be more unique than Amara. It is the perfect place to vacation. You can be in the hustle an bustle of Zihuatanejo in less than 10 minutes by car, bus, or taxi. When you have had enough, and you will get your fill, you can escape to peaceful Ixtapa and simply relax. If you love to eat, Ixtapa offers restaurants that are on a par with many of the best restaurants in Zihuatanejo, and without the street vendors, traffic, parking dramas, exhaust fumes, and the stifling heat that is trapped on the bay each evening.
We like it beachy and beachy was surprisingly pricey to do. But, we're on vacation in the tropics at the BEACH. Yay!!!
Three-Stage Filtration and High-intensity Ultraviolet Lamps (UV-PURE) produce safe, great-tasting carbon-filtered water at all faucets, all showers, the Through-the-door refrigerator ice maker and chilled water dispenser. Also supplies safe water to the dishwasher, and washing machine. NO heavy, 5-Gallon, Agua Purificada bottles to carry. No drippy ice bags to bring from the store!
Sunset lights up the dining area. Hallway to the left leads to four private bedroom/bathroom suites. The kitchen door (shown open) can be closed for formal dining. Beyond the kitchen is our laundry room, which can be closed off from the kitchen for peace and quiet.
Fading sunset shot from the living room couch. Look Ma, no railings! The glassed in balcony brings the view right inside.
Looking from the covered balcony to the open front door (back right) With no hallways, the place is so private that we leave the door open to let the ocean breezes pass through, whenever were home. The kitchen window, which looks out, high above town.
Our Amara Ocean Suites Have a Balcony and Sliding-glass Door Access. Most Amara Condos have Neither. Those Small islands you see are collectively known as 'Los Morros.' They embellish every Ixtapa Sunset, Sunrise, and Moonset. Simply Magical. You can rent jetskis right off the beach and go see them close-up. One has a nice blow hole (at the right tide).
The View from One of Two King Suites. About 5 O'clock. Sun Shade Has Been Rolled Down. All Bedrooms Have Sun Shades and Black-Out Blinds for Nighttime Privacy and Light-Sensitive Sleepers. Remember, this Place is All Glass!

Take the Half-mile Beach Walk to Dinner on the Water at the Harbor? Walk a Half-mile South on the Beach and Hop the Tram to El Farro? Take a 10-Minute Drive to One of the Countless, Zihuatanejo Restaruants? Descisions. Descisions!
'Wow!' is what you will say when you open the front door. Your own elevator awaits outside your front door. Look Mom, no hallways! We leave the door open when we are home. Yes, it's that private. Amara has no hallways. Condos are linked vertically by elevator instead of with long, busy hallways. Perfect!
About 9:00 AM. You've already had your morning coffee on the balcony. You have completed your sunrise, beach walk to the harbor and back. Now you have to make a decision. Do you take a dip now or do you take the 5-mnute walk to town for breakfast. Or maybe just have the breakfast buffet next door? All are tough choices, we know.
Three infinity pools and one kiddie pool. The kiddie pool is right below. The three infinity pools are: the huge, family pool , the round, adults-only pool, (far left), and the Pacific Ocean (top center), which is as warm as tiled pools. Also note Amara's private beach palapas and Amara's poolside bar and grill cabana (round structure between the beach pools).
The pause between warm onshore and cool offshore breezes can be breathtaking. I must have 100 photos like this. Take one yourself!
Nightfall at Amara. The Headland (w/distant lights) Separates Ixtapa From Zihuatanejo. Foreground, Family Pool. Behind that, the Lighted Palapa and to the Left, the Round Adult Pool. The Kiddie Pool is Off Camera, Directly Below.
