Penthouse loft with roof deck available in prime location.
Large, sunny condo available on Bond Street – steps from SoHo, the East Village and the Lower East Side . Across the street from 40 Bond, Ian Schrager’s latest architectural gem and residence, this open-plan apartment is perfect for indoor or outdoor entertaining, but also quiet and near all necessary services for comfortable living. This block was named block of the year by the online architecture blog Curbed in 2007 because of all the interesting architectural developments.
The apartment is very light, with 13-foot ceilings and a wall of windows in the living room. The private roof deck (450 sq feet), with lounge chairs and table for dining, has views of the neighborhood from all directions. The living room’s wood-burning fireplace is fully functional. The apartment was last owned by an interior designer, Adam Dolle, and was featured on the cover of several magazines, as well as featured in articles in The New York Times and New York Observer (not sure if I can post the links so google it).
The building is a walkup with four flights of stairs. You have the whole floor to yourself. It is a two-bedroom, and can sleep 3.
The Street and Neighborhood:
Bond Street and Noho have completely transformed over the last fifteen years, when it was probably best known for CBGB’s music club nearby on Bowery. It is now the ‘It’ location in Manhattan . The apartment is above a great restaurant, il Buco, where celebrities often come for a quiet dinner, knowing that the classy clientele will not bother them (I have seen Elvis Costello, Robert Redford, David Byrne, Sophia Coppola, Matt Damon, Sarah Jessica Parker and many others there in recent years). Just in October 2008 the restaurant was booked by Clint Eastwood for guests including Angelina Jolie, and Keira Knightley was seen enjoying a quiet dinner with friends.
The location is excellent for getting both downtown and uptown by public transportation. Some of the city’s best boutiques and movie theaters are close-by in Soho, the East Village or Nolita. It's a two-minute walk to Whole Foods grocery store and to Astor Wines, one of the city's best wine stores.
Bond Street and the building itself are steeped in history - Edgar Allan Poe was a frequent visitor in the 1840s and wrote 'A Cask of Amontillado' while in the building, and it was owned by PT Barnum in the 1870s.
A prior guest wrote this to me recently: 'I've found a couple other spots that definitely could work while searching all over VRBO, but to be honest, after staying at your place in October, there's really no other spot that compares as far as great location and stylish apartment goes. And the rooftop doesn't hurt either.'
Some notice is appreciated! I am not set up to handle next day guests, I'm afraid.

We (=Dutch couple with teenage son) spent five days at Justin's place this summer. Bloody hot five days too, so thank god for air conditioning -- which is provided in all three rooms and worked admirably. Apartment is exactly as described here, although perhaps a bit more "lived in" than the photos suggest, eg lots of Justin's books and stuff next to your bed. Not necessarily a bad thing, it adds to the feel of borrowing a friend's place. Clean and roomy, though. Location is perfect to discover the hip side of Manhattan. Il Buco (downstairs) and culi-burgers at DBGB's (on Bowery) recommended for eats. Due to the heat we didn't have the chance to really enjoy the rooftop. Kitchen is well-equipped, although coffee making facilities are minimal -- lots of tea available though. ;-) Will definitely book again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My boyfriend and his daughter and I spent three nights at Justin's apartment. It was a perfect location for seeing all of NYC. The apartment is spacious and really comfortable and just plain cool! Justin was so easy to work with on the details and he provided great advice on everything from directions to great places to eat. This was our first experience in renting an apartment and Justin made it worry free for us. The restuartant in the bottom of his building Il Buco is a can't miss, we enjoyed dinner or a cocktail or dessert there every day, so fun to have it right there. We love walking and seeing all of the different neighborhoods and Justin's apartment is right in the midst of some of the best areas for exploring. We will definately be back to stay again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

AMAZING! Huge space with high ceiling and lots of natural light from the skylight. The location is incredible -- right on the edge of Soho, Noho, and East Village. I found Bond street to be nice and quiet at night. Justin was warm, welcoming, attentive, and accommodating. Be aware the walk up the stairs may be a consideration. My 70 year old mom could manage, but always needed to take a break half way up. Otherwise this place is beyond perfect.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

A stunning, spacious apartment. Unsurpassed location for seeing all Manhattan by subway, even as far north as the Cloisters. On a quiet, charming block. AND with a private, rooftop garden! Absolutely the best accommodation for the money in New York City, offered by an agreeable, conscientious owner.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My adult daughter and I enjoyed a four-day stay in this apartment over New Year's. There is no question that it is extremely well located in terms of access to the subway (one block over) and main roads (such as Bowery and Lafayette, and major shopping along Broadway, yet it is surprisingly quiet for a big city place. The apartment itself is unique and spacious. While it may not be a five-star in hotel terms and does require a climb to the fifth floor, it has all the necessary amenities to make a stay comfortable; as winter travelers we particularly loved the wood fireplace! We would both recommend this place and stay here again for another visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

My friend and I had the most fantastic stay here in April 2010. The apartment is even better than it appears in the ad, incredibly spacious and stylishly furnished and the huge roof terrace is an unbelievable bonus! Il Buco restaurant downstairs is one of the city's most special places to eat and it's just yards from the fashionable Bowery Hotel which is great for drinks. Location couldn't be better and Justin was an incredibly generous and accomodating landlord. Would highly recommend - so much better and cheaper than staying in a hotel!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children.

Just spent a lovely 5 days at 47 Bond, and we too did not want to leave. What the pictures don't show is that it is huge! Plenty of room for our 4 person family, with everything we needed in place and functional. and the neighborhood couldn't be better situated for just about anything. Highly recommend il Buco downstairs as well.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My girlfriend and I stayed at 47 Bond for 4 nights and positively did not want to leave. Our first stay in New York was very authentic thanks to the great location and comfortable environment at Justin's apartment. Everything in Manhattan and Brooklyn was very accessible as the subway station was around the corner. World class food, wine and shopping unique to NYC are steps from the apartment. Our experience with Justin was great and we had no hiccups in communication or service. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to anyone of my friends. Additionally, comfortable beds, FULLY stocked kitchen, great sound system, very safe building, washer and dryer and rooftop deck all contributed to our great stay. Close to subway stops, Whole Foods, SoHo shopping, Little Italy and lots of restaurants. Property is safe, secure and spacious. You'll definitely get some exercise walking up the 60+ steps to the top floor (no elevator). Comfortable accommodations include a full kitchen, bathroom (loved the heater!), comfortable beds, wood burning fireplace, internet connections and lots of great classic books for reading. Beautiful private rooftop space with excellent neighborhood views for relaxing and socializing. Justin was friendly, so easy to work with and very accessible when needed! Thanks for everything!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We recently stayed in Justin's spacious 2 bedroom apartment. It was well equipped, in a safe location and very comfortable to hang out in and sleep after a long day in the city. Our favorite part of the stay was the large, private, roof-top patio area - giving us views of the city around us. The apartment is walking distance to Little Italy, SoHo, Washington Square Park & NYU, etc., & has all kinds of public transportation to take you farther. There are great places to eat and drink right below you and down the block. We were happy with our choice to stay at Justin's place and would do it again in the future.
