A RIVER RUNS BY IT
Relax and take in the mountain life in our NEW 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath cabin nestled in the North Carolina mountains between 5 acres of hardwoods and rhododendrons. With the New River literally at your driveway, this cabin gives you the best of both worlds - the unique wonder of the mountains coupled with the proximity to civilization. Enjoy the peace and serenity of being "one with nature", watching the river, the wildlife, and the scenery from your huge deck while enjoying the luxuries of hardwood floors throughout, a modern kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances, luxurious bedding and linens, plasma TV with DVD and VCR and every imaginable attention to detail.
Although relaxing is the key, amenities abound in the area including hiking, fishing (on some of the best trout waters in the Carolinas), swimming, canoing/kayaking/tubing, shopping, golf, skiing, horseback riding, wine tasting, leaf "peeping", and a number of other activities. Take a stroll into the town of West Jefferson to take in a movie at the old cinema, watch cheese being made in the only cheese manufacturer in the Carolinas, visit the many art galleries and restaurants, or just take in the ambiance of a small mountain town. If you must, you are also only 30 minutes from the Boone/Blowing Rock area, offering all of the amenities of a large city (theater, college town, etc)
After a day of activities, spend each evening at some of the local restaurants or enjoy a meal at home in our modern kitchen with huge gas barbecue grill. Watch a sunset off of the porch while listening to the sounds of the river or take a load off in our sauna or jacuzzi bath. You will truly feel pampered while enjoying the wonders of one of the most beautiful places in the US, the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A River Runs By It offers something for everyone. Whether fly fishing the many premier streams in the area (special "honey holes" available to renters), spending a day skiing at the slopes less than an hour away, biking the paved roads adjacent to the New River, canoing down the river to your driveway or simply making a point to excel at doing absolutely nothing, one stay with us will keep you coming back year after year.
Who knows? You won't be the first to fall in love with Ashe County...we may even get to one day call you a neighbor.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
The Fratcher family are Texas natives who landed in North Carolina several years ago and have never looked back! Work and busy kid schedules keep us on the go most days but you can also find us in our yard planning the next flower bed or vegetable garden. We enjoy our city life but simply must escape to the mountains as often as possible. We enjoy most anything outdoors so if you are not at the cabin we probably are!
Why the Owner Chose West Jefferson
Our decision to buy our cabin, A River Runs By It was a long dream finally realized. With busy work and kid schedules, our cabin is a place where we can escape, take a deep breath and refocus our attention on the important details of our lives. We spent two years looking for the "right" area and by chance happened upon Ashe County, North Carolina. The New River immediately drew us in. Being large city dwellers, the other thing that struck us as outstanding was the absence of heavy traffic and congestion in this particular part of the high country. To be able to hear and see the river from your porch and see millions of stars at night are things we value and it sustains us. There are other parts of the High Country that are more commercially recognized but you will be hard pressed to find a river more beautiful and country side more inviting anywhere else in the High Country of North Carolina. We invite you to come rest, relax and renew with us!
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Through the years our family has stayed in every kind of vacation home you can imagine. Some very cool but too often they are forgettable. We took copious notes and turned our wish list into a reality beginning with the interior of the cabin. We are completely confident you will keep us high on your list of wonderful places to stay. Our cabin is fully equipped and wonderfully decorated. Attention to detail is right down to hand crafted soaps made by a local soap artisan.
Another outstanding feature is LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! A RIVER RUNS BY IT cabin affords you views and access to the wonderful New River AND we are minutes away of some of the best fishing in the area. If you want to be centrally located to an abundance of vacation opportunities but prefer a tranquil setting at the end of your touring day, you will be highly satisfied with our strategic location.

Rick and Cammie, Thanks for a great weekend. You have obviously spent a lot of time decorating the cabin. We felt right at home. There wasn't a thing we needed that we did not find in the the cabin! Our favorite part, however, was being close to the river. The boys can't wait to come back and are already planning the next trip.
