We stayed at Sidari for our 2012 spring break.. my wife and I and two teenage daughters. We hit a cold rainy spell in the San Francisco area that week but Sidari kept us warm and cozy. We cooked in a lot as the kitchen had all the right amenities. We probably slept too much, partially due to the very comfortable beds. We had originally planned to spend a couple days in Marin County and then a couple days in the city but this was the perfect middle location. The owners were terrific to work with and answered many helpful questions while planning our trip.

My husband and I have wanted to try life on a houseboat ever since we toured open houses in Sausalito five years ago. Since we are now renting our own home for a year to experiment with different living styles post-retirement, Sidari was a perfect escape for a month. One of the nicest aspects was Michele and Gabor's thoughtful stocking of the basics: everything from tea to spices, so we didn't have to spend a bundle on things we would have to throw out a month later. They were also accessible by email almost immediately whenever we had a question. Even though it was January, we had wonderful weather- mostly sunny - and even when we had an occasional rainstorm, it was cozy inside with the ample heater. I used the kayak almost daily to photograph the seals, herons, and cormorants that surrounded us, just a 15 minute trip away. Sausalito is a great central location for exploration of both San Francisco and the neighboring area of Marin County. We hiked in the Marin Headlands, just minutes away, in Point Reyes, and Muir Woods. It was less than an hour to the wine country. In addition, the quirky, creative decorations of the other floating homes on the pier gave us something new to discover each time we walked the dock. Locally, the town has several outstanding restaurants; FIsh and Avatar were favorites, but it we had the best dinner view in town from our own deck. You will love the feeling of being connected to nature here, from the gentle rhythms of the tide to the starry skies at night as you walk down the pier to your car. It is an unforgettable experience.

My husband and I stayed at Sidari and really loved it. It was the best month we ever spent away from home. What a special, charming place. The instruction booklet was very thorough and the communication between the owners and ourselves was very easy and clear. Dan, the property manager was always available for our questions and needs. He did a walk through with us as soon as we arrived. The appliances and bathroom were very modern and clean. The dining table and chair set is a kick. The original artwork everywhere is fabulous. We would like to come back to Sidari again and again.... Mrs. Goldsmith, Boston Massachusett

We liked the boat from the minute we arrived. Weather was on our side and we used the patio and the kajaks a lot. The boat was clean, we had everything we needed (inclusive laundry machine/dryer). Napa is only a one hour drive. Restaurants are nearby and there is a large grocery store about 3 minutes by car. Locations of restaurants, grocery store and things to do were provided in a booklet on the boat, which was very convenient. The boat also had WiFi which was very useful too and if weather would have been bad I had time to zap through the endless list of TV channels too (but I didn't). So while many people here recommend it for older couples, I can say that it is also a perfect place for a honeymoon since it is so romantic and there are a lot of activities around. Next time we will stay longer!
Owner response:Dear Peter, Thank you for the kind review. We love meeting people like you from around the world. Maybe next time we can exchange homes. We love Switzerland. Michele

We just spent our second week of a second year on Sidari and what a fantastic time we had. Our hosts, Michele and Gabor were absolutely delightful and their quick responses to a couple of questions that we had made our visit even more pleasant. First, the setting is the best, at nearly the end of Liberty Dock which is lined with lots of interesting vegetation, the view off the deck is perfect. You can see the fog draping over the hills to fill the bay in late afternoon and evening, and the fog horns entertain from a distance if you listen carefully. The ride up and down four times a day with the tides is exciting in itself as the sea and shore birds respond accordingly. Two kayaks are provided and a short trip in sheltered waters will bring you sea lions and harbor seals sitting on docks in the warm sun along with cormorants and pelicans. The beautiful yachts and houseboats are a marvel most enjoyed from a kayak or just walking up and down the docks. Bicycles are also provided for visits to town and the ever fascinating waterfront. Sidari is cozy and comfortable with views in every direction from topside where you can watch activity up and down the docks and in the surrounding bay. We spent a week onboard only leaving to shop at the nearby markets. We had planned to go to several of Sausalito’s incredible restaurants and shops, but found it more to our liking to just stay onboard where the sights entertain both night and day. I would highly recommend Sidari for a week or two for anyone wanting to experience a life on the water. Their books selection alone can keep you onboard and riveted.
Owner response:Dear Richard and Barb, Thanks for all of your lovely kind words. We always enjoy you both as our guests. I hope we will see you again when we are in town. Michele and Gabor

This was the perfect way to see San Francisco: close to the city (right across the Golden Gate) but its own calm, beautiful retreat. We loved the houseboat community (and Sidari's own charm) and the amazing scenery. Thank you so much!

Stayed w/c 18th july 2011 Cosy, quaint and something different. Great to wake up with nose on a level with the water line and watch the sea birds and kayaks passing by ! Enjoyed using the kayaks, paddled out to look closely at the seals, great photo opportunity ! Made use of the bikes and cycled across Golden Gate Bridge on them. Spent hours sitting on the deck. Property clean and well stocked with essentials...great when you have travelled from the UK ! Owners very helpful answering all our questions, before and during our stay, no matter how trivial !

Where do we begin? We absolutely LOVED it! We had such a great time that we are already looking at our calendars to find a date to come and stay again. As a family, we do a lot of traveling and take many weekend trips. This has officially moved up to one of our favorites! We went into Sausalito, explored the Marin Headlands, ate at a great local restaurant called Fish, and we spent time just simply relaxing. The boat was just how you described in the VRBO listing and we felt very much at "home". We spent a lot of time enjoying the deck. My husband and I still can't decide which was better...starting the day on the deck with a cup of coffee or ending the day on the deck with a good glass of wine! The weather was perfect too. In the 80's everyday and no fog. We felt so lucky on the 4th. Not only could we see the Sausalito fireworks from the deck, it was so clear that we could see the fireworks from Pier 39 in SF as well. Of course our daughter thought that was simply the best! Thank you again so much for allowing us to share your home. We are "sold" and we'll definitely be in touch to book again.

I spent a long weekend with three friends on the houseboat and we had a wonderful time. There is easy access to San Francisco and to all the cultural events. I especially liked watching lights twinkle on the water at night. The listing description was accurate and the owners responded quickly when we had a question about the stove. The houseboat is decorated delightfully. We travel yearly to a new destinations and this trip exceeded our expectations.

My husband and I and our two children recently rented Sidari for a two week stay. We used to live in Sausalito but have since moved out of the Bay Area, and were going back to visit friends and family. The houseboat was a wonderful unique vacation experience, and Sidari was extremely comfortable and well-equipped. The protected back deck was a nice area for the children to play outside safely. We also loved having the bikes and kayaks. We did lots of entertaining because all of our friends wanted to come to the houseboat, it was such a lovely relaxing place! We plan to rent Sidari again for our next visit to Sausalito and would highly recommend it.

We went to the House boat for my wifes 54th birthday and had a fantastic time. The Boat is comfrtable and a little wild on the decorations but they fit the place perfectly. The bed rooms were comfortable and the upstaires living area was great with great views and good amenities. For less than the cost of getting 2 rooms at a hotel we had a wonderful time and was able to have my son and freind with us also. All around wonderful time and we will do it again.

My husband had an emergency apendectomy just before we left on vacation and we thought we would have to cancel. However, we flew to San Francisco anyway and found the houseboat to be the perfect place for him to recuperate. It was so quiet and peaceful and the water was relaxing. When we arrived, I left a message for Dann, the manager, that we had arrived and he returned the call promptly and asked if there was anything we needed. Michele was in touch before, during and after our stay which we greatly appreciated. Sausalito was a beautiful little village that we also enjoyed very much. This had to have been one of our best vacations. Just bring a lot of money, San Francisco is an expensive city if you want to do things. If you just want to relax, enjoy the houseboat.
Owner response:Dear Karen, Thanks for the sweet review. I am glad that your hubby is feeling better and that he had a chance to heal on Sidari. She is a very healing place. Michele

The houseboat is decorated in such a fashion that you felt as if you were hanging out in your own very cool pad. We were fortunate enough to meet Michele and Gabor during our trip...very nice people. The neighbors are friendly and the views are fantastic. A real treasure in the bay area. We can't wait to come again.

My husband and I had a great time on this houseboat! It was pure relaxation hanging out on the deck looking out into the bay. The house itself was super cute inside and out. Full kitchen, clean and pretty bedding, comfy sofa and great fireplace! The bedrooms were downstairs so literally we were sleeping below the water level. Very cool. We used the bikes to ride to Mollie Stones. Sadly we didn't have time to use the kayak. Next time! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants something more special than just a hotel.

Michele and Gabor-we had a wonderful, comfortable stay on your houseboat. What an experience. The views were great from the deck and even in cool temperatures we were able to use the kayaks which was great fun. The bed was spacious and comfortable and the quiet nights made for good relaxation and sleeping. We used the fireplace which topped off some of the cooler evenings and then enjoyed coffee mornings and evenings on the deck. Your checking in with us to make sure we had all we needed was nice--in case we needed you-but we didn't and the stay was great. Thanks so much and we will be seeing you again!

Good location - between San Fran and Muir Woods. Just spent four days with two grand kids on spring break. The houseboat was a great choice - better than hotel rooms! Everything was within a short drive or bike ride and the houseboat was such a relaxing place to return to in the evening. The kids loved it!

I was in heaven out here, it comes with 2 bikes & 2 kayaks & it is so well equipped. The houseboat stays really warm with the fireplace on board & heating system is awesome. I will definitely come back to Sausalito & stay on it again!

We stayed is this Sausalito houseboat on two cold (for coastal California) January days. No problem. The sun beats in on the back porch and we ate there for lunch in comfort. The fireplace helped warm the evening air. (The houseboat has an excellent forced air heat system so crank it up if you wish.) We had proper clothing for kayaking and enjoyed the use of the kayaks included, paddling amongst the houseboats, sailboats and SF Bay scenery. Sausalito has an abundance of exceptional free or low cost activity such as taking in the history, scenery and ecology of the Golden Gate National Recreational Area. And where else can you rent a houseboat with all the comforts of a house. The owner of this houseboat is extremely good at communication on any questions or issues you might have, so ask and get the information you need.

My husband I and met our grown daughters for a short vacation in Sausalito. We wanted to try something different and were so happy to find Michele and Gabor's "Sidari".... This little house boat was charming and full of character, just like the community it inhabits. It was perfect for the 4 of us, plenty of room to spread out and stocked with everything we needed to make ourselves at home (also a little neighborhood grocery within a short walking distance). We were docked across from some of the coolest boats ever. The deck was fantastic, I could have lived out there. Mountains to the right of you, a couple of awesome "Pirate Ship" houseboats across the water from you,(I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet), the Bay in all it's glory, and more Mountains to the left of you. In the morning we would sit and have our breakfast on the deck, watch the fog creep up and spill over the mountains and in the evening we'd all gather for wine and relaxing conversation. It was truly blissful and we really hated to leave. We also have 2 Boston Terriers that travel everywhere with us that Michele and Gabor graciously accommidated. They had the most adventuresome walks round the docks where they would stop and talk to the neighbors, meet new friends and watch the most entertaining birds dive into the water. We're great animal lovers and missed our cat at home. Much to our delight one afternoon, someone had neglected to close the bathroom window and my husband walked in to find a beautiful neighborhood cat coming to pay a visit, halfway through the porthole :-) Our girls loved jumping in the kayaks to go commune with the seals. Though they remained at a safe distance, they swear one of the babies tried to follow them home...if only they could have fit it into a suitcase. Michele and her staff were very helpful and responsive throughout the whole process. Would have no hesitation in returning to the Sidari or in recommending this property. The scenery, peacefulness, the wildlife and whole community was so memorable, it will remain one of our favorite vacations ever. Thanks for sharing Michele and Gabor!
Owner response:Thank you so much for the kind review! Please come back again.... Michele

Great location on the dock. Did not lack for anything. Slept like babies with the gentle rocking and sound of the seagulls. Enjoyed the use of kayaks and bikes. The neighbors were extremely friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants. We fell in love with the houseboat community and Sausalito. Will definintely return! We really enjoyed our stay in Sidari which we found to be a houseboat with plenty of character. We had never stayed in a houseboat before and it was a fantastic experience; really relaxing and peaceful. We had everything we could have needed and more within the houseboat which was located in the picturesque waterfront community of Sausalito, just a short drive or ferry journey to San Francisco. There are a number of restaurants and supermarkets located within Sausalito which is great if you would like to stay somewhere a little quieter but with good access to San Francisco itself. The property was accurate in its description and photographs with Michele being very helpful and responsive throughout the whole process. Would have no hesitation in returning to Sidari or in recommending this property. Thank you for a most enjoyable and truly memorable stay.

My husband and I met up with his son and son's girlfriend in San Fransisco. My husband and I wanted to stay somewhere out of the city and this was perfect. We went in to San Fran, Napa, hiked, biked into town, kayaked, and spent some time simply enjoying the accomodations. The houseboat was such a great unique experience. The pictures are very accurate of what to expect. Memories we will always cherious. Everything we needed was in the house. We cooked in quite a bit. It was so much better to be able to interact as a family in a house rather than staying in a hotel. I think my favorite thing was kayaking and seeing the harbor seals in their natural habitat.

It really was a new experience for my family of four. We live in Chicago and the first thing that hit me was the quiet. No cars! The property had everything we needed and a fireplace. The people living on nearby houseboats were friendly. We spent half our time on the boat and the rest exploring San Fransisco which is just minutes away. I love Chinatown, with the little side streets, where we discovered a fortune cookie factory. We toured a few free museums such as the Cable Car Museum and Wells Fargo. We also went to Fisherman's Wharf, very touristy, but where else are you going to get a bucket of doughnuts? My girls called the houseboat home. Enough said.

We felt very at home with all the personal touches (especially enjoyed all the dragon and mermaids and the book selections already on board). I had planned on going into the city a few days and barely made it for one afternoon because I was so content to be on the boat. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your kindness and helpfulness regarding this rental and for having such a wonderful place that you offer to others to enjoy. We had a wonderful stay at Sidari! From the first walk down the dock decorated with flowers and unique treasures to the afternoon kayaking around the “neighborhood”, we loved the beauty and sense of fun of your houseboat. We laughed like kids as we biked into town for dinner one night and smiled happily the next morning as we woke with the water’s sparkling reflection on the ceiling. The view was amazing and we enjoyed it at breakfast with coffee and in the evening with wine (thank you for the bottle of wine too!). We had everything we needed and Jack was welcoming and checked in on us. Thank you for a very special and romantic stay!

What a wonderful stay at Sidari! We arrived at dusk in the rain, and woke up to views that were absolutely amazing! The houseboat was charming and spotless, kitchen was well stocked, and the bed was comfy. One day of our stay we only left for a trip to the wonderful grocery store for fresh fish, pasta, and salad. The rest of the day was spent on the deck enjoying the views, talking with a few neighbors who provided a wonderful history of the houseboats, and watching the tide change. It was amazing how the boat rises and falls with the tide, while you can feel the slight movement you don't realize the change without a focal point! There is a pelican statue on a post that lets you know the status of the tide! The fireplace was also wonderful on the chilly nights, it was amazing how a duraflame log can warm up the entire place. No need for the furnace in September, with all of the windows the sun warms the houseboat during the day. We would like to return, and will definately recommend to anyone visiting the bay area!

This was a calm and quiet retreat, with a beautiful view, yet only minutes away from San Francisco. We knew we were somewhere completely unique when we first arrived and walked down the wooden dock; the path was lined with containers full of flowers. After a week on Sidari, one of my favorite things was a very subtle movement when the tide went out, which was slightly hypnotic. Suffice it to say that view from the deck, and the excellent kitchen caused us to change our plans, and spend most of our time relaxing on the houseboat, instead of running around seeing the sites. Michele really took care of the details, and checked in with us to make sure everything was fine. I have been to the bay area many times, and this is by far the best place I've stayed. Highly recommended!

We spent two delightful weeks on Sidari and we absolutely loved it. In fact, it was one of our favorite vacations and we intend to do it again. We loved sitting on the deck for our breakfast each morning and a glass of wine each evening. We hooked up both of our computers but with the wonderful views, it wasn't hard to keep up with our work. Bike riding into town, and all the wonderful restaurants forced us to stay put in Sausalito and never even have the desire to venture to SF. Michele and Gabor were wonderful neighbors and gave us a great overview of our environment. The size of Sidari was just right for us, and worked when we invited guests to come and visit! We recommend it highly. Bev Kaye and Barry Levitt

Why stay in a hotel when you can experience Sausalito as a local? We will definitely be coming back as soon as we can! All the best, Gwen and Jack
