Sunrise Cottage on Mahala’s Lane
Located in Owls Head, this quaint and unique 1930s cottage is nestled at the end of a private lane. Overlooking Crocketts Beach and Penobscot Bay, Mahala’s Lane is serene and relaxing, a true seaside get-away.
The house, featured in the September 2007 edition of Down East magazine, is architecturally unique, reminiscent of a ship with a bowed front, with pristine white ship-lap throughout and built-in beds.
A split-rail fence contains the ample yard and natural gardens surround the house. It is a pleasing space any time of the day; sit on the patio for morning coffee and watch the sunrise over the ocean or stroll down to the ocean-front beach house for an afternoon of reading.
The main house sleeps 9 in four bedrooms. The master is on the first floor with an ocean view and an adjoining bath.
The well-equipped kitchen has spectacular views of the water and opens into the living room and dining room areas, both with ocean views. Plenty of windows offer natural light and light sea breezes.
There are three bedrooms upstairs and one full bath. The first bedroom has a built-in double bed and the second bedroom has one twin built-in bed. Both have views of the water and comfortable furnishings.
The third upstairs bedroom has a private bath and one queen bed with an ocean view.
There is also a beach cottage on the property, located at the water’s edge. The guest cottage offers sleeping space for two on a double bed, as well as a spacious deck. This is the perfect place to sit and watch the day come to an end.
The location of Mahala’s Lane is ideal; Owls Head is a small, quiet community just minutes from Rockland, Thomaston and Camden. These larger cities offer museums, restaurants, shopping, festivals and endless cultural activities.
