Location: Mariposa, Yosemite Area, Gold Country & High Sierra, California, USA (10 miles North of Mariposa (Yosemite's Gateway) on Hwy. 49)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Cabin Home, Cottage, Yosemite Stargazing
Conveniently located off Highway 49 in California's Gold Country, on a historic parcel known as Trabucco Gardens.
During the Gold Rush days, Trabucco Gardens was a parcel of land cultivated as a vegetable garden, while Forty-Niners discovered gold in the area. The historic rock walls on property mark the perimeter where the garden once grew.
The joy of discovery continues here today. Now you can discover the vast riches our universe has to offer. Trabucco Gardens, located on 17 private acres, provides you with a grand opportunity to stargaze in privacy using high-end, easy-to-use instruments. The robotic GO-TO telescopes are provided during your stay, and are included in the rental cost. This open, rural stretch of Highway 49, which is considered "above the fog and below the snow", provides you with many clear night opportunities, even in winter.
The Trabucco Gardens House, newly constructed in 2007, is well appointed and available year round. The charming and historic community of Bear Valley is 1/2 mile North on Highway 49. Mariposa, the county seat, which is 10 miles South, has many essential services, along with many wonderful dining, shopping, and historic sight-seeing experiences. Yosemite National Park's West entrance is located about 45 minutes away up Highway 140 from Mariposa.
We provide housekeeping service (not daily maid service), before and after your stay. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot cocoa, microwave popcorn, and guest soaps are also provided. Personal key code access provides you with convenience and security. Along with a fold-away sofa bed in the living room, a queen-sized inflatable Aero-Bed is provided for extra sleeping accommodations.
Because of the rural nature of the area, there is abundant opportunity for wildlife sightings, such as deer, wild turkey, coyote, bobcat, birds of prey, and perhaps an occasional bear. Seasonal creeks at the North and South ends of the property flow during winter and spring. Make sure to leave some time in your schedule during your stay for stargazing too.
Using the telescopes, beautiful views of the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Hercules Cluster, and many other deep sky objects are yours to behold. The telescopes offer a TOUR mode, which takes you to the best and brightest objects in the sky during your stay. Stargazing doesn't get any easier than this.
What on EARTH are you waiting for? Go mining in the INFINITE FRONTIER! An inspiring adventure of discovery for the young and the young-at-heart is here at Trabucco Gardens.

Second Stay, still AWESOME!

This is our second stay at Trabucco Gardens!! We just LOVE the charm of this place and will be back!! We stayed for three nights, and were hoping for snow in Yosemite to play in, but instead it was sunny, and beautiful, but chilly!! The cabin is awesome, clean, private, and has everything you need to enjoy your stay! It has a great little kitchen, and it's nice that the coffee is provided! We really liked the addition of the drinking water filter this year. The BBQ was a great amenity that is offered as well! The drive is exactly 10 minutes to the town of Mariposa and about 45 minutes to the entrance of Yosemite. It's not much farther then that to the south Entrance through Oakhurst if you want to go straight to the Mariposa trees for a hike (which we did). As always, thanks for letting us bring our little dog with us!!

We highly recommend Trabucco Gardens as a very peaceful spot in the Yosemite area to spend a few days. The chalet is very quaint, comfortable and well stocked with all necessities. We were always anxious to get back home, to sit on the porch and enjoy the end of the day. We are also very grateful for owners who allow well behaved dogs and there was plenty of place to run!!!!! So, try it, I'm sure you will love it, with the darling town of Mariposa just down the street. Linda

Trabucco Gardens was delightful. Great place for couple or family with children old enough for bunk beds. Newer home, well maintained with comfortable furnature in a private & peaceful setting. 10 minutes to Mariposa, 1 hour to Yosomite. Owner very easy to work with, an exception value. We will be back.

You can get closer than this to Yosemite, but you won't have as nice a place and you'll pay more. We have visited Yosemite many times, camping and staying in various other accommodations. This is the nicest place we have stayed and, we think, the best value. The route through Mariposa (Hwy 140) is also the easiest drive into the park. This is a beautiful, modern "cabin" with all the amenities and more. Great video setup and the best private observatory you will probably ever see. And after the crowds in the park, the seclusion and peacefulness of Trabucco Gardens are most welcome.

We stayed 6 nights at Trabucco Gardens, and found it exactly as advertised. Our stay was absolutely comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. The home is clean, beautiful, and well-maintained, and Mike provided us an abundance of information to make our stay easy and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable beds (including the sofa-bed), well-equipped kitchen, TV and wifi, and especially the solitude (not another house in sight) and the wildlife. We saw various birds, wild turkeys, even a bobcat. We also enjoyed the observatory one evening. We loved the area and this home was everything we were looking for. We would not hesitate to visit again.

This house is awesome. Everything is well organized, clean and comfortable to stay. It is in a nice quite area with mountains, trees all around. Perfect vacation home. We have enjoyed so much. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a get away from busy life. Mike is very prompt in responding to all the queries and to make sure your stay is comfortable.

We had a great time staying at the Trabucco Gardens. We loved the peace and quite. We even saw a wild turkey walk by the back of the house. The house was clean and well maintained. Mike was very nice to talk to. The property was exactly what we were looking for...a cozy cabin away from the hustle and bustle of city life, but close enough to Yosemite.

We stayed for 4 nights and it fit our needs perfectly. Very clean and new. We watched a video on Yosemite the owner provides which was fun for the kids. The owner also provides snacks and bottled water, coffee, tea, detergent for the washer - helpful during our travels. Mariposa was only about 5 minutes away and a cute town to visit with beer and wine tasting, many restaurants to choose from and some tourist type shopping. The house is about one hour from Yosemite but a pretty ride. Lovely place and would recommend.

Staying here was everything we'd hoped for and more. The house was very well appointed - high standard of furnishings and amenities including very comfortable bed and huge TV screen. Everything that you could imagine had been provided including "walkie talkies" which very very useful for when one of us was in the observatory and one of us in the house. The photos make it look good but the reality was better - we loved it as soon as we walked in and could hardly believe that we had the whole place to ouselves - including so much space outside. We stayed as a couple but I would imagine that it would be great for anyone with children also. Incredibly peaceful but only about 10 mins drive to the lovely town of Mariposa. It was incredibly clean and well maintained - a delight to stay in. I think because we are novices we didn't quite get the hang of using the telescopes but even without them the star gazing was amazing. Coming from a very urban area we were overwhelmed by just how many stars you can see with the naked eye. The owner, was very helpful and answered all our questions promptly. Sadly we only stayed for two nights but we did visit Yosemite NP one day - took us about an hour but was a lovely drive. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone thinking of staying in the area and if we are lucky enough to travel here again thsi will absolutely be our first choice of anywhere to saty ................but for longer next time.

We spent three nights at the Trabucco Gardens cabin this past weekend. The cabin has everything you could want and more!! Everything is so clean, and cute!! Every detail is perfect! We used the cabin as a place to start our days in Yosemite!! It is a 45 minute drive (at least) back and forth to Yosemite, and about 10 minutes to the little town of Mariposa. When we arrived, there was enough snow from a morning snowfall for the kids to play and run around. We walked around the property and explored! We didn't get to use the observatory (next time for sure) as the cloud cover hindered stargazing!! We did hear turkeys in the morning, and saw some quail. Thank you for opening your home to visitors, we will definitely be back!!
