During the Gold Rush days, Trabucco Gardens was a parcel of land cultivated as a vegetable garden, while Forty-Niners discovered gold in the area. The historic rock walls on property mark the perimeter where the garden once grew.

The joy of discovery continues here today. Now you can discover the vast riches our universe has to offer. Trabucco Gardens, located on 17 private acres, provides you with a grand opportunity to stargaze in privacy using high-end, easy-to-use instruments. The robotic GO-TO telescopes are provided during your stay, and are included in the rental cost. This open, rural stretch of Highway 49, which is considered "above the fog and below the snow", provides you with many clear night opportunities, even in winter.

The Trabucco Gardens House, newly constructed in 2007, is well appointed and available year round. The charming and historic community of Bear Valley is 1/2 mile North on Highway 49. Mariposa, the county seat, which is 10 miles South, has many essential services, along with many wonderful, dining, shopping, and historic sight-seeing experiences. Yosemite National Park's West entrance is located about 45 minutes away up Highway 140 from Mariposa.

We provide housekeeping service (not daily maid service), before and after your stay. Complimentary coffee, tea, hot cocoa, microwave popcorn, and guest soaps are also provided. Personal key code access provides you with convenience and security. Along with a fold-away sofa bed in the living room, a queen-sized inflatable Aero-Bed is provided for extra sleeping accommodations.

Because of the rural nature of the area, there is abundant opportunity for wildlife sightings, such as deer, wild turkey, coyote, bobcat, birds of prey, and perhaps an occasional bear. Seasonal creeks at the North and South ends of the property flow during winter and spring. Make sure to leave some time in your schedule during your stay for stargazing too.

Using the telescopes, beautiful views of the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Hercules Cluster, and many other deep sky objects are yours to behold. The telescopes offer a TOUR mode, which takes you to the best and brightest objects in the sky during your stay. Stargazing doesn't get any easier than this.

The furnishings are top notch & all the facilities have been planned with great care & attention. It's wonderful to use the telescopes & view the dark, clear skies. It's also great as a base for Yosemite & visiting the pleasant town of Mariposa - rent it & enjoy - we will be back! The Bomfords (from England).

  • The owner was communicative and accommodating so it was a real pleasure. He did say that we can find the house in the night but we suggest to do it when there's light as it's a bit hidden amongst the hills. The whole house smelled of pine when we went in and looked much better than the photos. We only used the telescope in the observatory and that worked great. We were beginners at this so learnt a lot about having a personal observatory. The books that were there were helpful too. Definitely could see the Milky Way here even with a bright sky, that's probably due to the moon. Wished there's more instruction on the eye pieces and filters though, that looks like we can increase magnification but not sure how to use them. There's no red flashlight there but the owner said that he's going to buy some soon. Internet is a bit slow but it works good for email. The whole house is very quiet and relaxing. Thanks for providing us this opportunity to have our own personal observatory.

  • This cabin was everything advertised and more..wonderful retreat complete with wild turkeys and two horses on the property that the children loved!! Well appointed and clean - the days were spent in Yosemite and the nights were spent stargazing with the amazing telescopes. Highly recommend for families..would rent again.   • We are so glad that we were referred to this lovely property. Everything was very neat and extra clean. The towels were plush and the pillow top mattresses were wonderful. We had a child and a senior citizen traveling with us and everyone was very comfortable. The scenic and rural view of the cows grazing on the hillside was just picturesque and we also saw a wild turkey and a grouping of deer near the cabin....my son was so excited! We took a day trip to Yosemite and had a great time. We would highly recommend this property to all of our family and friends.
