The perfect escape
The perfect escape
We spent a week here in early March 2013 (sorry for the delayed review) with our whole family (young adult sons). It was perfect! We were so happy to be on the north side of the island. Very quiet and less touristy. There were days when we never left the house, just relaxed in the hammock or beach, went snorkeling, ate at home (very well stocked kitchen). Loved Rum Point! Beautiful beach, great beach bar, and the restaurant is a wonderful spot for dinner. There are a lot of great local spots nearby to eat: Kurt's Corner (behind a bar just before you make the turn on the north shore road. Water Boyz?), Tukka, Kaibo(great for lunch on the beach), Water's Edge for breakfast. Enjoyed exploring the island, stopping at public beaches for snorkeling, rented a boat for a day and explored Sting Ray City, swam with the dolphins and rented jet ski's. All of the information left by the owner was great. The house has everything you need. Plenty of towels and supplies. Extremely clean house. Very peaceful and relaxing spot. Owners were very accommodating. You will need to rent a car. Great information from owners for shopping. We will absolutely return to Grand Cayman. Beautiful, safe island, people are warm and friendly.

we shall return!
we shall return!
The house was everything as described and more! The location is awesome - it was quiet and private yet just a short drive from all the 'touristy' activities. You can do everything or nothing and still have a great time! We spent our mornings driving around the island and literally went from end to end over the course of the week - not that it takes that long to drive around the island - but each day we had a different destination, or sometimes no destination at all - so we took our time. Driving around was much easier than expected. We had our own snorkel gear so as we drove around we would just pull over at a nice looking beach area and check it out. There are many public beaches with easy parking but we also found several smaller/unmarked pullover areas that were fun to check out. However, as noted in the house description, there is great snorkeling right in the 'backyard'! It's protected by a reef and the coral and aquatic life right off the backyard beach was amazing. Afternoons were spent relaxing/napping in the hammock, more snorkeling in the 'backyard' beach, beach walks or kayaking. The house is as light and airy and SUPER CLEAN as the pictures depict. The kitchen is well equipped and there are plenty of bath linens/beach towels. If you need beach supplies/snorkel gear/souvenirs, no need to travel back to Georgetown or Seven Mile Beach area - there is a great store just minutes away on the East End across from the Morritts Resort, right next to The Italian Kitchen Restaurant (yum!) (Sorry can't remember the store name). We cooked breakfast at the house most mornings and had lunch somewhere around the island most days. Dinner was a couple nights at the house but most nights out. We ate a several of the restaurants that were recommended to us by the owners and were happy with each one - hard to choose a favorite. We even worked up an appetite by kayaking to breakfast one morning! The highlight of our trip was SCUBA diving with the Cayman Marine Lab (highly recommend!) Overall this was an amazing house and destination and we surely plan to return!

A Trip to Remember...
A Trip to Remember...
First and foremost,I wanted to say that we had an amazing time here. The picturesque location and “island-time” ambience of the home was an integral part of the experience.Homeowners Doug and Melinda have created a comfortable home-away-from-home and offered a myriad of options to explore for 1st-timers like us.Excellent hosts! Our visit was far too brief and I am certain we will be back. Our trip from the airport to the house took about 2 hours. This was mostly deliberate due to a brief (sometimes humorous) introductory period with left-side driving,a few stops for supplies and repeatedly gawking at lizards/jaw-dropping seascapes. The owner-provided map was very helpful since the car rental place was out of GPS units. As it turns out the island is very easy to navigate.By the 2nd night,we could make it to the house in 35 minutes from Georgetown.Upon arriving to the house,we could not have been more pleased.Heck,we even had a welcoming committee of critters. One blue lizard,we saw each day,did push-ups for us and was consequently deemed the house pet.He was ceremoniously named “Bob.”In the “backyard” were comfy loungers,a hammock and what seemed like our very own sparkling ocean.Inside was well appointed, modern and instantly enhanced our calm.Over the next few days we adventured and relaxed.Mostly relaxed! Each morning I watched the sunrise with a cup of coffee and toes in the sand.Sometimes I crawled back into bed and others we both scampered out to see what wonders we could find.In the evenings we watched the day melt away into night 20 steps from the house. We cooked many meals in house and walked the local sands. We did dine out too. Some standouts were Rum Point Club Restaurant and the CBLU Lounge at Rackam’s.Away from the house,we spent time in the warm waters of 7-Mile Beach, frolicked with turtles at the Turtle Farm or enjoyed impromptu sight-seeing.We even found a patch of trees covered in old shoes called the Cayman Shoe Tree. This was a neat way to draw attention to the littering and raise awareness.A fantastic and memorable trip combined with the perfect place to stay.Everything from the curious chickens at the rental car depot,to dodging crabs on the evening roads while driving,to sharing special moments with unbelievable backdrops made this place magical for us.Here, plenty of romance for a couple’s trip like ours was available for the taking and is certainly family friendly as well.I cannot wait to bring the kids back here and share it with them someday.

Peace and Quiet, and Beautiful
Peace and Quiet, and Beautiful
We are family of 4, celebrating my husbands 60th. We stayed 2 weeks. The house was beautiful... fresh, cheerful decor, clean, air conditioned and well maintained. It is right on the beach! The pictures of the house & location are accurate. Melinda is very helpful &personable. If you are facing the ocean, off to the right there is great snorkeling. My two sons 21 and 24 had a wonderful time laying in the hammock, basking in the sun with a Pina Colada. They used the kayak to paddle to Rum Point (3 to 4 miles away). With the wind & current it took them 1.5 hours to get there and 3.5 to 4 hours to return. They had arm pain for 3 days and that was the last of the kayaking. The house is on the quiet & peaceful side of the Island. The shops, Malls, Marine Park, the town of Hell, Turtle Farm are on the other side of the Island along, and north of Seven Mile Beach which is about a 30 to 40 minute drive (the accommodations there are very expensive). The people are very accommodating! If you are a diver, there is good shore diving (and snorkeling) along Seven Mile beach at Eden Rock (tunnels), Sunset, and Turtle Reef. You can rent a tank for $12 US and then use the parking lots & facilities. There are several Dive Companies. We used Cayman Marine Lab but would not recommend because dives were very short in comparison to other companies. My son had a two tank boat dive for $110 US, one dive (down to 100 ft wall) was about 28 minutes (per tables), and the other dive was only about 25 minutes at about 40 to 60 feet. He had 2200psi left & was very disappointed in dive length & area chosen. We learned that other Dive Companies dive until air runs out. Stingray City is worth the trip: rays are huge and harmless... mostly interact with people who have the food. We were able to touch them by approaching from underneath. They do not like to be touched on top. Rum Point has a good restaurant called Kaibo. They have a band and all you can eat Caribbean BBQ on Tuesday Nights. We had a wonderful time eating, drinking, & dancing in the sand! At Rum point there is also a beach called Starfish Beach and we were told there is a dolphin who frequents the area and will interact with people. Don't forget to see the Blue Iguana at Queen Eliz. Botanic Park! Ate at Britannia golf club: good deal and iguanas come to beg at the table! A great vacation. Thank you to Melinda & Family for sharing your beautiful home!

Owner response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review.....we are so happy you enjoyed our little "piece of paradise" as much as we do !! We hope you will come back to Cayman again :)
A slice of paradise
A slice of paradise
I tend to research purchases ad nausea, and finding the perfect vacation getaway was no exception. My wife chose the island (Grand Cayman - mainly because it was the safest of all Caribbean islands) and I was tasked with finding a hotel or condo, flights, car rentals, etc. After weeks of intense research I settled on this villa, and wow, I was not disappointed! My wife practically cried when she first saw the place and walked on cloud nine during our entire ten days stay. What a charming place! The house (villa?) was light and airy and comfortable too. The patio leads right out to the beach where reclining chairs and a hammock are nestled between vegetation (which provides privacy) and is shaded at various times of the day by a stately palm tree. Only a few yards separate the house from the ocean, where some of the best snorkeling on the island can be found due to the abundance of coral reefs right outside the villa door. Even though the house is on the north side of the island, we were able to see both sunrise and sunset from the villa property. I am not exaggerating when I say that the owner probably has one of the best located villas on the entire island. It is located within minutes of heavenly Rum Point beach, the incredible botanical gardens and Mastic Trail. Plus, the owner is generous to a fault, supplying the house with virtually everything one would need, including two awesome Kayaks! This is the perfect place if you enjoy privacy, tranquility, snorkeling, relaxation, and the comforts of a home, including the ability to cook a meal. If instead you prefer crowds, bars and nightlife, swimming over snorkeling, and hate cooking, then maybe you should check out the more touristy spots. As for my family of five it was a taste of heaven on earth. We felt at peace during our stay there and look forward to renting this villa again in the future.

Why the Owner Chose Rum Point:
After several years of vacationing in Cayman we decided we needed to purchase our own little piece of paradise. We enjoy the snorkeling right off our beach and the quiet, relaxed side of the island. Although it is only a 30 minute drive to 7 Mile Beach for great dining and shopping (we too have great dining on 'our side of the island').
