Mount Desert Island is a great vacation spot and Harbor Watch in Southwest Harbor is an excellent place to stay. The house is roomy, comfortable and well-maintrained. There is a terrific view of the working harbor from the back deck and the town is small, but with a number of good restaurants and many nearby attractions. It is away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor which is about 30 minutes away on the other side of the island. There are numerous hiking trails on the island, many quite close to SW Harbor. There are scenic view everywhere with lakes, mountains and the rock-bound coast yielding great vistas. We loved the area and the house!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

...we thouroughly enjoyed staying at your Harbor Watch home! We have told all of our sailor friends who annually sail in Down East Race Week out of Northeast Harbor about your home, so you may be getting some more requests! Thank you for all your tips and advice! We went down memory Lane and rented bikes, rode in the Park to the Jordon Pond House for tea and popovers, sailed for an afternoon on the Friendshiip Sloop, private tour of the Abby Aldridge Gardens, drinks at the Claremont Hotel, bought live lobsters nearby at Beals and cooked them at home [Harbor Watch]. And we topped it off with a 75th birthday dinner at Red Sky... It was all GREAT! Thank you so much and hope to do it again some year soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were three families for a total of eleven and we had a wonderful time. Staying at Harbor Watch was like coming home in a different state. Although the listing shows only five bedrooms, there are really six distinct areas that can serve as bedrooms. The kitchen is very well equipped and since we made full course dinners each night, we gave the kitchen a workout. The enclosed back porch easily sits eighteen people and that is where we had meals each night and played games. There are four-five parking spots in the rear of the house and we had full access to the garage to store bikes, etc. We were thrilled to realize that the house was with in walking distant to the "town" of SW Harbor and our favorite place to eat - Beal's pier. (Make sure to take the Vagabond Tours (Masako Co) fishing and lobstering trip. The eleven of us got off of the boat with fifteen lobsters which were steamed right on the pier.) Feel free to get wet and dirty because there is a new washer and dryer in the basement and plenty of clotheslines on which to hang clothes. The only things we could have asked for were a window AC in the front left bedroom to mute the street noise and a blender to make Mudslides. Other than those very minor things, this one a perfect place to stay and enjoy all that Maine has to offer.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Harbor Watch is roomy, well equipped, clean and very family friendly. We loved sitting on the deck looking toward the harbor. The kids got a kick out of living on the main street of quaint and lively Southwest Harbor. The location is awesome...a stone's throw from hiking, swimming, kayaking, biking....you name it. We appreciate the welcoming and helpful communication of our hosts.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Our family of four generations and one lively Lab spent a wonderful week at Harbor Watch in July, 2011. Wish we could have stayed longer! There was enough room for all 12 of us and the kitchen was very well appointed, There is enough room for four+ people prepping and cooking in there! Having private bathrooms and the washer and dryer were fantastic! The owners were very attentive and caretakers polite and efficient! We will be back, no doubt about it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful and memorable time during our vacation in Acadia this past week. Harbor Watch was a special place. It was very comfortable and felt like a home away from home. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful views of the harbor from the deck and bedrooms. The kids also had a great time. I think you should put some more photos of the views and all the rooms in your advertisement in VRBO. The current pictures don't do justice to the place. If we do plan to visit Acadia again, we would love to stay at Harbor Watch for a longer period.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3

Thank you so much for the use of your home. This was the perfect place for two people who love nature and the outdoors. We loved everything about the house! Especially watching the sailboats come and go in the harbor while drinking wine from Bar Harbor Cellars on the deck! Thank you so much!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/4

We loved your wonderful home. So LARGE, and yet so cozy. We felt comfortable from the minute we walked in until the very sad minute we had to leave. Walking to town was an added "plus" as was the terrific weather. Our children and grandchildren did not want to leave, nor did we. A beautiful area of the country with so much to do including swimming, boating, biking, hiking, shopping, and LOBSTERS galore - and a whole lot more. Thanks for use of your beautiful home and we hope to come back often.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a blast, Mt. Desert Island is perfect. We found out that lobster can be $3.45 a pound! The hikes are amazing. We enjoyed the convenience of the town right down the street. We also enjoyed the rooms and their comfortable beds. We loved the view of the harbor from the deck. (from CT, NJ, NC, MT, and NY)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We had a beautiful week on MDI! The weather was perfect and we were able to do so many great outdoor activities: biking, hiking, lobster and seal cruise, Sand Beach, and Echo Lake to name a few. We enjoyed cooking our own lobsters from Beale's along with some local restaurants: Harbor Head Inn, Jordon Pond House and the Parkside in Bar Harbor. Thank you for providing such wonderful accomodations! We loved your home's comfort for large groups! The private bedroom areas and spacious common areas were ideal! We would love to return to Harbor Watch again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Thank you again so much for hosting this reunion of old friends. You made us feel welcome and at home; your home works so well for a large group: places to be alone and places to be together. I'll remember conversations and laughter around the table, meals that were fun to cook together, enjoying the sun on the deck, and the cozy evenings around the fireplace. All of our adventures in the park were special - the picnic at the seawall, the hike along Long Pond, our faboulous bike ride to Jordan Pond House - and our gratitude when you, our rescuer, arrived to cart us home! I hate leaving, but will remember fondly our days at Harbor Watch.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

"Make new friends, but keep the old: one is silver and the other is gold." So special to reconnect with old friends here in your cozy home in Southwest Harbor and to find new friends too! That 9.3 mile bike ride from the ANP Visitor's Center to Jordan Pond was a highlight for sure! Lobster birthday dinner [at Harbor Watch] overlooking the harbor was also tops. We thank you for the memories, your gracious hospitality and friendship.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

What a wonderful place for a family reunion! Our families came from Hawaii, CT, MD, and VT to celebrate a special birthday. This was so convenient and comfortable and I would love to come back again. The weather did not cooperate this week so the games [you provided] were appreciated. We ranged in age from 7 months to 70 years and everyone had fun. This side has everything we could want and we loved being somewhere where we could walk to so many places. We especially appreciated the birthday acknowledgements - that made it extra special!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We all injoyed the quiet side of the island and being able to walk into a nice little town to browse, get goodies to eat and go to the art show that was in town the weekend we arrived. Most of the week was filled with beautiful weather to enjoy the hikes and scenery. We were here for the week of the fire in Northeast Harbor, visible from the top of Beech Mt. We enjoyed meals out at Beale's - the lobster was delicious. And we had a special birthday meal at the Claremont - the view, the ambiance, the food were indeed a special treat. It was great returning from our trips and having plenty of bathrooms and plenty of hot water for showers. The carriage ride in the park was very interesting - the cobblestone bridge and the area around it is beautiful. And if you have a need for it, as one of our family did, the MDI Hospital in Bar Harbor has a friendly and kind emergency room staff. Most of all, it was nice to have a place with such a beautiful view, good spaces to gather, an ample kitchen in which to prepare meals and comfy beds at the end of the day. This house was filled with happy times and much laughter this week. Thank you for all you've done to make it such a nice place to be. And thanks for finding such a wonderful caretaker to look after things if anything goes wrong!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This gracious old Maine House provided us with such comfort and convenience! We loved dinners overlooking the harbor, sitting on the front porch and recapping the events of the day in the sitting room. What fun to walk into town - we found many reasons to do so, including ice cream and scones! Favorite eating places were Beales, Dry Dock and Tan Turtle (Northeast Harbor). We biked the Carriage Paths (with a stop at Jordan Pond House, of course!). We had a perfect day for kayaking Long Pond and the kids loved Bar Harbor - especially the Cool As a Moose store. We appreciate so very much the week in your very special Maine home. Harbor Watch is indeed a special place. Thank you for sharing it with our family!Did you find this review helpful? Many thanks and blessings for your home on the 'quiet side". We loved Acadia and Mt. Desert Island. this has been a wonderful family trip! So different than where we live in Texas. The weather, hikes, kayaking, photo ops, everything was GREAT! And it didn't take long for Harbor Watch to become our home away from home!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have had a wonderful week here. This home has been so comfortable and the area is beautiful. We have enjoyed many of the hikes, including the Bubbles and Beach Mtn. The kids loved Echo Lakeand the ferry ride over to the Cranberry Islands (nice places to walk) and around to the other islands. We love this village! We only left the island once - there is so much to do over in the Park - Thunder Hole, Sand Beach, the wild gardens and, of course, Bar Harbor! Thanks for providing your lovely home!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
