The Cottage was renovated in 2007 and is located on a 40 acre farm - complete with horses and cows, ponds and pastures. The interior has rust colored walls in the living room and on the cathedral ceilings. The kitchen has two bars and is the perfect place for entertaining - seating 8 along with the dining room table, seating 6. Throughout the house there are tile floors, except for the bedrooms, and the counter tops also have the matching tile. There is a back screened porch with a table and chairs and the front lawn has tables and chairs....perfect for viewing the stars at night. There are two bedrooms, one queen size bed and one full. In the front foyer, there is a daybed and a sleeper sofa. The house is uniquely decorated with shabby chic antiques, electric furnishings and original art by Marilyn Shelby and other local artists.
It is a perfect place to get back to nature. You can stroll around the farm or try your hand at fishing. There are three ponds and plenty of room to roam. The countryside is perfect for biking - having very little traffic on the roadways. Red Creek is two miles away so you could ride your bike there and have a picnic. There is a public boat launch at the creek and canoe trips can be arranged putting in at Hwy. 49 and taking the canoes out at City Bridge, giving you a two mile drive back home. Canoes and kayaks can be rented for an additional fee.
There is also a mother-in-law cottage on the property which rents for $125 per night or $500 a week. This home is a shotgun style with three bedrooms, a large living room adjoining the kitchen with a fireplace and a bathroom with an antique tub. Both houses having 5 bedrooms and 3 baths. It too is totally furnished. This would be perfect for planning a family or friend reunion....and either cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway.
Wiggins is about 8 miles away and has antique and resale shops, several good restaurants including Serendipity, The Whistle Stop, The Sawmill and others. Or for the best sandwiches, the local store, Big Level Grocery, is the place to eat. There are public tennis courts at Blaylock Park and an affordable golf course at Pine Burr. It is close to the Red Creek Wildlife Management area and Flint Creek Water Park. There are two four-wheeler parks 20 miles away.
The Gulf Coast is 30 miles away and has casinos and many activities such as taking the boat to Ship Island.
If you're looking for some quiet place to escape and enjoy the peace and quiet....this is the place for you.
