Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2004

We are a free-lance writer and an artist and we have lived in Spain in the past. After several years of searching for "the place" outside the U.S., in 2004 we went to Argentina for a winter vacation and ended up buying a home in Mendoza after being in the city just a few days.

In those few days, we were charmed by the friendliness of the people, the numerous green parks and plazas (the city is literally an oasis in the desert), the Mediterranean lifestyle (outdoor cafes, music, etc.),and of course, the great wine and local produce.

Argentina is one of the very few places in the world where the U.S. dollar continues to gain value, so although certain costs have risen over the last few years, it remains a terrific bargain for visitors with dollars or euros.

During our time in Mendoza, the atmosphere has become more and more cosmopolitan, as foreign investors have bought wineries and other properties. More high-quality restaurants with a variety of cuisines have opened, and the local cultural scene has blossomed in art galleries and studios, concerts and other public events.

Why the Owner Chose Mendoza

The top reason for choosing this property is its location--walking distance to the center of the city, with its plazas and parks, restaurants, shopping and cultural activities; yet ensconced on a quiet, leafy, residential street in a typical Mendoza neighborhood. It's a tranquil, private oasis, well-located close to local services and attractions.

The Unique Benefits of this Studio Apartment

Returning from a day of tasting delicious Mendoza wines, ascending into the Andes mountains, rafting or hiking or other activities-the pool, garden and terrace are the perfect place for a tranquil respite. Just about anything you need is available a very short distance from the door: street vendors with excellent fresh produce, take-out shops, video rental stores, excellent restaurants, a Carrefour hyper-market, ice cream parlors, bus route, etc.
