Ajijic is acknowledged for possessing the second best climate in the world. The Sierra Madre Mountains offer countless hiking trails and beautiful views. Lake Chapala and the many old villages surrounding it provide opportunities to explore traditional old Mexico. Ajijic itself has a weekly market (Tinaguis). Tlaquepaque and Tonala, both suburbs of Guadalajara, are 40 minutes away and are famous for their artisans who work in glass, ceramic and wood.
Guadalajara is easily reached by bus or car. The state capital of Jalisco has numerous museums, a stunning Spanish Colonial centre over 300 years old and many beautiful churches. A large market offers most of what all of Mexico has to offer from the simple to the luxurious. Nearby, in a pedestrian area, is the jewelry centre featuring department sized jewelry stores. Much of the jewelry is made in Guadalajara as it has been for centuries.
Ajijic also has many local and longer distance tours within Mexico, such places as Tequila or San Miguel de Allende.
Access to the Ajijic area is through Guadalajara International Airport a short 30 minute trip by taxi or car. |
