Near Madrid and other historic landmarks: Avila, Salamanca, Pedraza, Segovia, El Escorial, etc.One week minimum.
La Granja is an ideal location for a vacation.
The duplex is centrally located but on a no-exit side street away from traffic. The 18th century palace is next door, with its splendid gardens and fountains, the Guadarrama mountains as backdrop. Restaurants, shops, market, pharmacy, fitness center, soccer stadium, royal glass museum, are within easy walking distance. Charming Duplex nicely located for seeing Castile
Charming Duplex nicely located for seeing Castile
The duplex in La Granja is charming, clean and comfortable. Some of the furniture is antique, and the kitchen is well equipped. The beds are very firm, typical of European beds in our experience. The pictures accurately reflect what it looks like. The bedrooms and two full baths are down a narrow circular staircase. It was very quiet. Everything worked well including a washing machine with clear instructions by the owner. There is no air conditioning but at 3900 feet it was not a problem. It is in a good location just next to the over-the-top La Granja palace and gardens. You can easily spend a whole day there and not come close to seeing the whole estate. Segovia is only 6 miles away and we are able to find easy access parking outside the walled city and walk to the old town. We went to El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen on a beautiful mountain road with little traffic. There are other towns fairly close by like Pedraza and Avila. The town is small and runs strictly on Spanish time. Shops are closed in the late afternoon and restaurants are open for lunch from 1:30 to 4 pm and for dinner starting at 8:30. There is a grocery store and some specialty stores that are convenient, and a weekly market in the main square by the church. There is no internet in the unit. There is a nice café with good internet very close to the apartment but during the week it is only open from 9:30 to 4:30 pm. Parking is interesting. The duplex is on a somewhat steep and narrow dead end street. You can readily park outside the unit but you need to back in and park at an angle. Very do-able, but unusual in our experience. The street has both an old name (on the street signs) and a new name. Our GPS (and Google maps) could not find the correct street, but the owner’s directions are easy to follow.
