Overall we enjoyed our stay. It was wonderful to be able to bring our two dogs and not have to pay extra. Also, great to have an enclosed back yard, but it was messy and covered in dried pine needles, plus no grass. The spa was lovely, no issues there. As for the interior, the up keep is kind of lacking, except the bathrooms and bed sheets were very clean, but other than that the house is kind of "clean only on the surface." It needs a deep thorough cleaning: baseboard, walls, kitchen floor and the carpet is very worn is over-due for replacing. We kept socks or shoes on nearly the whole time because the ground was so hard and dirty. They do provide most kitchen needs, coffee maker, toasters and such, but the steak/cutting knives are dull, so I would recommend bringing your own for preparing meals and maybe a liquid measurer. The pool table and air hockey table are in one unit and the pool table is not level and the air hockey doesn't work too well (not enough air coming through the holes) I guess. We still enjoyed playing pool, but you can’t get very competitive, but perfect for kids. The Hulu Plus, Roku and Netflix were great amenities. The TV’s are older (still nice) but you can’t hook up another gaming system if it requires an HDMI cable. But there is a playstation in the master bedroom. We played Yahtzee and did a little Karaoke, also watched Jurassic Park on VHS (big collection of VHS movies to choose from) ? Also, rented a few movies from Red Box at the Stater Bros which is just down the way. Super close. I think if you are on a budget and looking for a good location that sleeps a lot of people, Bear Villa is an option. The neighborhood is really quiet and is in a nice location for outside activities (like hiking). But I strongly feel this home needs a major cleaning and some upgrades like carpeting. Also, the kitchen is nice, big fridge, ice already made in the freezer, frozen mugs and decent counter top space…be warned, some of the rooms have sensor lights, so they turn on when you move around and it can be a little annoying but I think you can turn the off.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.

My family and I were looking to get away from the busy life in the city and head to the mountains for a weekend. This was the perfect place for us! Plenty of space for me, my wife, our son and 2 dogs to spread out and relax. The jacuzzi was great and the master bedroom was quite spacious. Everything was as described by the owner. We had a great time just hanging around watching movies and cooking out. We also made it to the zoo, which is only a couple of miles away. The lake is just a few minute's drive also. We would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a quiet place not far from things with plenty of space to relax. Thanks for the great weekend!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This was a fantastic deal!! The house was great - clean, updated kitchen, nice bathrooms, fantastic hot tub, so many fun things to do. I honestly cannot wait to go back because we had so much fun. I had forgotten how great watching VHS tapes can be...but they had an amazing collection and we had them playing the whole time, only turning them off to sing karaoke! The house is close to everything you could need - highly recommended!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Booked this cabin for two days due to the amazing competitive pricing. I was further amazed when dealing with Johann the owner/porperty manager. She was.very personable and professional answered all my questions in a timely manner and made renting this property seamless. Arrived at the cabin without having to stop by a leasing office to pick up keys (key pad code) or sign further paperwork. Makes things so much mor covienent. When arriving to the cabin I was impressed with what we got for price. It accommodated 8 adults all our gear comfortably. The kitchen was well updated and had everything we needed. This cabin was perfect for our ski trip and would recommend this place without any reservationRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed here early February, an it was a beautiful time. Johann the home owner is very nice and thorough when booking. When we got there we couldn't get the washer to work and he took are call pretty late and fixed are issue over the phone! Top notch service! It was also within a mile of bear mountain cant be that! The jacuzzi is amazing! However if you are going to rent this cabin solely for the fact that it has a pool table, the pool table is more for kids rather than serious players. The table is a bit warped in the center so the balls role. On the reverse side it's an air hockey table, LOTS OF FUN! I highly recommend this cabin and would definitely rent it a second time!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Bearvilla - Nice House but a lot of Rules

We visited Big Bear for the first time in July/August and stayed at Bearvilla. I was really excited to come to this mountain vacation and the house looked so inviting. The house had all of the amenities promised including the hot tub, billards, and foosball. We were able to bring our dog, which made it very special. However, the house is a little dark and there are a lot of rules. When my family rents a home, we are very respectful of the residence because we consider ourselves guests in someone else's home. I know that not everyone shares our values. However, my family had trouble relaxing in the home because everywhere you looked there was another rule to follow. In addition, the backyard was small and not particularily clean. We very much enjoyed our time in Big Bear and appreciate that we were allowed to stay at this home. However, the experience could be improved if there was less to worry about.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I must say this is a first. Unfortunately everyone is not like your family. I wish they were. If they were, then we would not have to post any signs highlighting some of the important rules such as " You have to remove your own trash (there is no trash service), no dogs on the couches, the spa needs to be locked when not in use (a safety requirement that carries a hefty fine by the City if not followed), pick up your own trash in the back yard, etc. Every single rule that is posted at the house, is also stated in the rental contract that is sent to guests at the time of inquiry prior to any payment or signing of the contract, so that they can review the rules and agree to comply with them, or not. Unfortunately it has been our experience over the past few years that many guests do not read the rules and regs and simply sign off on them. We even had guests that were unaware that they had to remove their own trash! For this reason and this reason only, we post the most important rules and regs on signs in the house. Some of the signs are informative like "dont park on the street in the winter - the guest will get a $150 ticket and "we have a standard water heater" just to inform guests that after 6 guests or more taking showers in a row there probably will not be any hot water left, so not all signs are "rules". Posting rules and enforcing them is another thing. I cant recall ever charging anyone for not removing their trash for instance but we have to post that there is a charge for that, as the cleaning co charges us if trash gets left behind. In general most people and guests are respectful and do not need rules or regs (like yourself) but for the small group of people that do, it certainly helps having those important rules posted especially when guests do not read the rules and regs that they signed off on. As for the backyard, yes it is not that big so we have posted many pictures on our website showing different views so guests can clearly see if this will work for them or not. There are many pine trees in the back yard with pine needles ever present and our cleaning service do not clean the back yard, so we request guests to clean after they leave (just their trash, not the needles). In the rules that were sent to you it clearly states that if you find trash in the back yard, to contact us so that we can take care of it. I clean the backyard everytime I come up which is typically once a month, removing pine needles as well.

We stayed in March and were blessed with fantastic weather! Snowed the 1st 2 days and sunny the last 2! Johann was fantastic from set up through our whole trip. Easy to communicate with via email or phone. The house was perfect for our needs. We had 3 generations; teens w/ friends, Grandma and our senior citizen dog. We all had a great trip! From sledding to skiing and even bowling! The teens made great use of the games, game room and the hot tub! EVERYTHING we needed was provided! There were beds for everyone and enough room in the kitchen and dining for us to prepare and eat meals together. We made great use of the TV/DVD player too for some family movie nights! We will certainly think of Bearvilla for our next family trip to the mountains! Thanks Johann for making our trip fuss free and easy!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: I have owned Bearvilla since 2005. After enjoying the house a few seasons, I decided to rent it out, when I was not able to get up and enjoy it myself. I utilized one of Big Bear’s bigger management companies for several years, then decided that I could do a better job myself, so I started Bigbear4rent. I realized that guests were not getting the personal service and attention they require and deserve, this wasn’t what I had in mind when I decided to open my home and rent it out, so I took it back, and have been extremely successful doing so, ever since. This is my second home, and I take pride in keeping it clean and presentable. I am constantly upgrading and making improvements to this house, to make your stay more enjoyable. You will not be disappointed. I truly hope you enjoy your stay at Bearvilla, and come back again and again...
Why the Owner Chose Bear Mountain:
I chose Big Bear Lake's Lower Moonridge area, primarily because it is located between the two main ski resorts Snow Summit and Bear Mountain ski resort, and is also close to the Lake and village as well. Lower Moonridge has the advantage over Upper Moonrdige that you will not be stuck in a driveway trying to dig yourself out or waiting for the Snow plows to arrive when you should be at the slopes already! The house is approx 1.2 miles from Bear Mountain, 1.0 miles from Snow Summit and 1 mile from the lake. The house is just footsteps away from the free trolley pickup, serving both resorts. I wanted a home that was fun, yet peaceful as well. Anyone that has stayed in Moonridge will tell you, it is not unusual to have a view right into your neighbors yard, but this house is unique, because it backs to the Woods, There are no neighbors behind this house – only beautiful green trees... The house has a den on one side of the house and a high wall on the other side, making for a completely enclosed, private backyard with a rear view of the woods.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Bearvilla offers everything you’ll need for a great vacation away ~ The master bedroom is pretty impressive at approx. 15x25 feet, and is furnished with a huge California King canopy bed and a wonderful fireplace, to snuggle by. The 2nd room has a queen bed and a Full size loft bed and the 3rd bedroom has twin bunk beds and a desk area. There is something fun for everyone! Pool, Air hockey, Foosball, Darts and more. And, there is nothing like relaxing in the Jacuzzi…an 8-person Jacuzzi brand premium spa, with all the bells and whistles. I have two wonderful dog’s myself, so the home is pet-friendly. Whether you want to get away for a quiet, romantic getaway, or come with friends to enjoy this great mountain community, the home has everything you’ll need to make it a fabulous trip. I look forward to having you stay at Bearvilla!
