Remember when you were a kid and you could go outside and play all day? You just had to listen for your parents yelling your name at dinner time to alert you it was time to return home?
Now, kids are overscheduled and strictly supervised. So are adults!
Fun, but what about..... riding your bike all day with buddies, picking blackberries, making forts on the beach, lying in the grass watching the clouds overhead... roasting marshmallows around an open fire pit, trying to count the millions of stars in the night sky. Our cabin is in the "South Beach" area of the Point. We are not on the beach, but do enjoy beach rights and our own access road. You could walk there in less than 10 minutes. I have found, with kids, their stuff, etc....can be easier to drive, or bring a big wagon. Our beach has great tides...we have been lucky in that the low tides sometimes coincide with the mid to late afternoon prime time beach time. Lots of sandbars to sit on, play on, swim from.
The water is "refreshing"! Depending on the tides it can be 80 degrees! At high tide, there is still lots of beach to walk along...bring your dog! Great beachcombing as well.
Point Roberts is accessed by crossing north into British Columbia, Canada and then driving around the bay to the border crossing at the Point. Best look at a map to get your bearings. We are easy to find. Day trips into Vancouver are certainly doable....40 minutes into the city by car. Tons to do there. (February of 2010 we are hosting the Winter Olympics- and yes, people are booking now)
We have three bedrooms: largest has a queen, smaller one has a double and "kids room" has 2 bunk beds. Each bedroom has a chest of drawers to use. Also we have an IKEA fold out double in the living area, and an IKEA fold out single in the TV "nook".
If you want a quiet, simple easy holiday, this is your place. There isn't much in the way of entertainment...you make your own. Try your hand at championship golf at Point Roberts Golf Club! Or ride your bike on a Point "tour". Or soak up the rays on a sandbar. Or dive into that novel....
Our cabin is officially a house...it's larger than a typical beach cabin. It is situated in a very natural setting: no manicured lawns with designer landscaping here! Just lots of big trees, ferns, laurel bushes, grass and delicious blackberry bushes. This is a family cabin that we have decided to rent. It is not a "rental property" furnished by a decorator with art and breakables. We are family friendly! It is a work in progress. Each year it gets better and better. |
