Humphrey's Ledge Mountain House-Vacation with a View-Storyland

Year Purchased: 2006

Why the Owner Chose Bartlett

Our decision to buy a vacation home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire started with extensive visits to all the New England states and sites of interest. We chose the Mt. Washington Valley because it is not only a year round recreation mecca, but is also centrally located between Maine and Vermont. We are 70 miles from the Maine's rocky coast and only an hour away from Vermont's rolling green hills. In addition, with the mix of outdoor recreation with cultural events such as plays, concerts we don't miss the busy urban environment we left behind.

A
Diana's Baths

Waterfalls cascade down the river creating natural water pools excellent for swimming and wading. Children of all ages just love it!

B
North Conway Village

Restaurants, quaint shops, train rides, Weather Discovery Center, park & children's playground, golf course and local craft shows and theater events. Mt. Cranmore ski, tennis, swim/recreational club s

C
Echo Lake State Park

Park with picnic tables and sandy beach. Shallow water is great for young children. Great views of White Horse Ledge from the beach.

D
Storyland

Favorite among families with children ages 2 to 8. A small version of Disneyland right here in the Valley. The authentic circus is a hit along with train, dozens of amusement rides, children's shows,

Owner's Map of Bartlett

Welcome to the Mt Washington Valley and Humphrey's Ledge Mt House.

Sam and I have traveled all over the US and many parts of the World, but always loved to come back to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. For 20 years we traveled to this NH wonderland from Massachusetts on weekends to hike, ski, canoe and bike. We couldn't wait to retire and settle here permanently. We just love the mountains (especially the fall colors), the rivers, lakes and the friendly community. With our weekend house now our rental house, we get to enjoy visitors from all over the US and Europe. We hope you will enjoy all the area has to offer. Just ask us for some travel tips!

Birdy and Sam, Bartlett, New Hampshire

A great family holiday home

Guest: ChrisyT (Aberdeen, Scotland, UK)
Date of Stay: 05/23/09 Review Submitted: 06/10/09

We had a great week at the house. It was clean and well presented. It had everything we needed for a perfect holiday in the mountains! The kids loved the sandbox and all the outside toys. The basement with all the inside toys was great for those rainy days. The kids loved reading all the books and were very at home! The proximity to Storyland was great - it meant a very short journey home for our two toddlers after 7 hours at the park. This house has lots of space and is a big three-bedroom property. The views are stunning and the deck is perfect for relaxing on a hot day. Birdy is very welcoming and was able to suggest some great ideas to help us make the most of our time in the area. We would definitely recommend this holiday home for families looking for a home away from home!

Owner response:I enjoyed every moment that I spent with you and your children. The Paddington Bear is waiting for Andrew's return. Birdy

We loved our stay at Birdy and Sam's playhouse!

This is an awesome property, and we loved our week-long stay. The house was neat and clean, well maintained and very well decorated. The view is amazing. Birdy and Sam are very nice, and they were very responsive in their communication. We will definitely return. Our kids called it the "Thai Tea" house because of its nice cedar color, and Birdy and Sam told us their nephew used to call it their playhouse. It's really a fun, relaxing place. Five stars! Thanks for sharing, Birdy and Sam!

Perfect Vacation Home for the Whole Family!

Guest: Kris F. (Northbridge, MA, USA)

We found this to be the perfect home to rent! There were 7 of us and we all had plenty of space. The views are beautiful and we loved sitting out on the deck at any time of the day to enjoy them. The kids loved being able to go downstairs to play ping-pong - they had fun! We loved that when we were at the house we felt so far away from everything, yet we only had to drive about 7 minutes to get to North Conway, which was perfect! We are looking forward to our next stay there already! Thank you very much for everything, Birdy.

A great time at your mountain home!

Guest: Pam (MA)
Date of Stay: 11/21/10 Review Submitted: 02/08/11

We had such an enjoyable time here in the mountains. We hated to leave and head for home. Everything at the house was great...clean, warm, homey and comfortable.....toys a big plus. Making the holiday even more special was seeing the large flock of turkeys in the yard and the Christmas train ride with Santa & Elves downtown. Loved having the off & on snow showers the last few days making it wintry in the mountains! We do hope we will be able to come back again. We would highly recommend this property!

Perfect for a family with kids!!!!

Guest: Lou (Plainville MA )
Date of Stay: 08/01/10 Review Submitted: 02/02/11

It's a wonderful location - so centrally located to all the fun. The kids had a great time running around the minute we got there. The ping pong table and sand box were big hits. Even though we went to great places like Storyland, Santa's Village, Echo Lake and summit of Mt Washington, the kids always smiled when we said "It's time to go back home to the vacation house". The house was in great condition, very clean and well maintained. I would recommend this property and owner to everyone. A++++++ experience!!!!!!!

Great time had by the whole family...

Guest: Christine and Ron (Portsmouth, NH)
Date of Stay: 08/21/10 Review Submitted: 02/02/11

Thank you Birdy & Sam for sharing your wonderful home with our family. We all had a great time. The children loved going through all the toys in the basement and Ron & I enjoyed watching the sun rise over the mountain in the morning. Your home is quite inviting, clean, comfortable and in a great location. We went biking on the Great Glen trail and the route from Cannon Mt to the Flume...what a ride! The Flume was gorgeous and fun to explore. We also had some amazing hikes around Echo Lake and up to Diana's Baths (even though it was pouring rain). I rode the zip line at Attitash....what a thrill. Save some time for us...we'll be back next year.

Family Getaway

Guest: Fab4 (Andover,Ma.)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 02/01/11

July 10-17, 2010: "Our family has had a fantastic trip back up to the mountains. Revisiting old stomping grounds-Emerald Pond, Lower Falls and Black Cap - and enjoying dinner at the Shannon Door ( best pizza!!) were among our favorite stops this trip. Of course, picked up goodies downtown to munch back here at the house. The house treated us very well - the views are gorgeous! It's so peaceful here and a great escape for our family. We had lots of game nights and had a blast competing on the ping pong table. Thank you for a wonderful week and we hope to be back here in the future.

Great time

Date of Stay: 08/24/09 Review Submitted: 02/20/10

"What a joy to have this lovely house as a home base to our White Mountain Adventures! We had the loveliest weather of the season and took advantage of it by grabbing several peaks including Sugarloafs ( Twin Mt) Mt. Eisenhower ( a lung buster above treeline) and Mt. Potash ( crazy river crossing) and Blueberry Mountain in Evans Notch. We also took a visit to a wonderful art gallery in Center Sandwich as well as an annual visit to the old print barn in Meredith ( to those who love old prints and other ?). Birdy was a gracious hostess and we are delighted to have met her and experienced this wonderful home. We will be back!"

A Gem

Guest: MomDadAnd3Girls (Westborough, MA)
Date of Stay: 08/08/09 Review Submitted: 02/13/10

Probably the best part of this vacation was arriving at the house and knowing the whole family would be comfortable and inspired by the beautiful views -- even if Mother Nature didn't always cooperate. This house is a gem! Wonderful for grown-ups and kids alike. We've been coming to Bartlett/North Conway for many years and is by far, the most wonderful place we've ever stayed. Usually, by the end of the vacation, the kids are cranky and ready to go home -- not this time! Thanks to Birdy and Sam for being thoughtful, gracious and supremely helpful hosts.
