Welcome to our beautiful Big Island of Hawaii. Are you an eco-traveler who seeks something different besides hotels, condos and the noisy nightlife? Then embark on an adventure down a "Road Less Traveled" and the sea beyond.........turn off Hwy ll and drive a rough road to our quiet, secluded home. We are totally self-sufficient, operating on solar/wind generated power which is converted from 12-volt batteries into electricity. There are no power poles on our road and we pay no utilities! The Hawaii sun and trade winds are captured for full off-the-grid energy, it's a dream come-true and we did it.
Komo Mai (come in) take off your shoes and relax. Sit on the deck with your special someone or family and enjoy a cool drink/your own-cooked meals, breathe fresh clean air, feed the wild birds, watch orange sunsets and enjoy panoramic views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Our house sits 1500 ft. above sea level overlooking an ancient Hawaiian road that meanders 4 miles to the beach below and one of the finest fishing grounds in the Ka'u area.
This is a land of contrasts from ancient 1896-1907 lava flows in the stark deserts of Ka'u to the lush, Wood Valley above Pahala town. Along this coast there are beaches and bays with interesting and unusually natural/historical features including hiking the ancient Hawaiian King's Trail, discovering petroglyphs on the rocks at Pohue Bay, snorkeling at secluded beaches and so much more. Historians say that the very first Hawaiians landed in Ka'u on the Big Island and also at Halawa on Molokai. Their history, stories, music and dance tell much about this historical and mystical region. When guests come down Road to the Sea, they comment that there is "so much energy" in this region. Some have come to do a "vision quest" in the cave on our property. Finally, the beauty of the Milky Way & stellar constellations are spectacular against a black night sky, away from city lights......
Snorkeling abounds here with a great variety of colorful fish and clean, clear, warm waters. Play with the dolphins in Hookena Bay, snorkel at beautiful Honaunau Bay or swim with the turtles at Punaluu Beach Park. There's a 3-par golf course and tennis at Sea Mountain Resort also at Punaluu Beach Park. Visit the Naalehu Bakery where they bake pink guava and Hawaiian sweet breads to ship worldwide. Don't forget to visit South Point, the southernmost tip of the USA, further south than Florida. There's so much beauty, natural resources, and untouched areas to discover here on the Big Island. You will just have to call to reserve your stay at our vacation home and I'll even help you plan your itinerary. Lucky Come Hawaii...we'll leave the light on for you............ |
