Charming Historic Beach Cottage with Spa-Fantastic Location
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Pacific Grove
This is the historic "retreats" neighborhood, originally a religious summer camp. The neighborhood is located within a short walk of all that Pacific Grove has to offer, and has a small beach town ambiance. I like the sense of community that is characteristic of Pacific Grove.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Guests love the cottage’s terrific location next to the beach at Lover”s Point, Monterey Bay Aquarium (Aquarium passes provided), the recreation trail for walks and biking, and a couple of blocks to downtown’s better restaurants and a few minutes to Pacific Grove municipal golf course. It is also a few minutes to Assilomar Conference center and Pebble Beach (guest access provided).
The spa and the whole house sound system with iPod dock are popular with guests too.
A beautiful spot to watch the sun rise over Monterey. There is a nice grassy park here and some small beaches
A wide paved path popular for walking and biking. It passes the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, historic downtown Monterey and then extends for miles past Monterey.
A really great public course with fantastic views of the coastline.
Fine dining and diverse culinary offerings, shopping, theater, Monday evening farmer's market, monthly antiques auction house, and art and wine walks.
Owner's Map of Pacific Grove
I love meeting guests from all over the world, it makes having a vacation rental fun. I'm a local architect and did most of the work on the cottage myself. I live in the cottage when it's not rented out because I love the neighborhood and location next to the beach. I enjoy sitting out on the front porch having coffee or a glass of wine with my delightful neighbors. I look forward to meeting you on your arrival in Pacific Grove. When in Carmel, stop by my office anytime for a free espresso or latte, I think I make the best on the Peninsula.

We had a wonderful stay here! The cottage is charming with it's mix of old charm and wonderful modern conveniences and luxuries. A beautiful kitchen, spectacular spa tub, and a fantastic sound system that piped music into all of the rooms. Super kid friendy (we had a toddler and newborn). Carl gave us a great tour of the place, was easily available, and worked with us to make sure anything that was unsafe for the kids was removed. It's a short hopto the beach and the Monterey aquarium. Having free passes was a nice bonus. Looking forward to visiting Monterey again soon. We will definitely stay here again.
Owner response:I enjoyed meeting you and your family! Thank you for the nice review. Come back anytime. Carl

I highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway. The house is very tastefully decorated. There were numerous fresh flower boquets throughout the house to greet us on our arrival, which was a special touch. Kitchen is completely equipped, even for the most discerning cook. The sound system is fantastic, we docked our i-pod and enjoyed our music, as well as the owners wonderful musical selections. Neighborhood was quiet and house is located within walking distance to everything we wanted to do. This house provided us with the perfect getaway and we hope to re-visit it someday.

August 4, 2009 We had a relaxing week at the cottage. The fresh flowers in each room were a nice touch. We listened to the XM radio the entire time we were there. We loved the spa and the down comforters made the beds extra cozy. The efficient kitchen was really fun to cook in. We just parked the car and walked or rode the bicycles to the local sights. Carl was very helpful with tips for dining and local activities. We will definitely be back!!!

We visited the Monterey Peninsula for the Naval Postgraduate graduation ceremony and stayed in this Victorian cottage, which provided a perfect vacation for our family of four. The historic Monterey Bay home is located a block from Lover’s Point and the Monterey Bay Rec Trail, which is great for walking or biking. It is also a block from downtown Pacific Grove, which has a variety of fabulous restaurants. The owner provided two free passes to the Aquarium, which my little girls loved. The home has been beautifully restored for modern living and the thoughtful details in the interior design and furnishings make this a very warm and comfortable place to stay. The plasma tv, whole house XM sound system, art/photography on the walls, antique furnishings, comfortable beds, luxurious bathroom with spa, and the modern kitchen made our stay completely relaxing. We wish we could have stayed longer and can’t wait to visit again.

We just got back from a wonderful getaway. This home is definitely worth staying at. It felt very warm and cozy and we felt right at home. Also, you step right outside the door and you are at the beautiful Lover's Point Beach which is literally less than half a block away. You don't even need a car as there are many restaurants, shops and sights all within a walking distance. The owner also provided bikes free of charge which we used to ride along a picturesque bike path which goes along the ocean in either direction from the home. We will definitely come back to this lovely cottage and recommend it very highly!

We've come to realize that the places that have provided our very best stays were those homes, cabins, hotels or B&B's that have paid most attention to detail, that contained the most surprising touches, and were well cared for. Carl, this turned out to be one of our very favorite stays because of the great thought and care that went into putting this charming place together. The XM radio was on constantly (Jazz in the mornings, Classical at night); the and shower, so beautiful to look at, became a regular morning and evening ritual. The warmed floors, the kitchen faucet, the colorful bathtub light all contributed to make our three day stay seem woefully short. We love the area - the otters, Willy's Barbecue, the walks along the shore, and the shops on Lighthouse. You've created the perfect place for contemplation, a game of scrabble, taking naps, and, not the least of which, being with someone you love. Greg & Dale

This lovely and quaint restored victorian cottage is a perfect getaway destination and is ideally located in downtown Pacific Grove on a quiet side street; it is only 3 short blocks to downtown restaurants and a block from Lover's Point beach. Amenities are well described by the owner and all are top-notch; perfect efficiency kitchen, fabulous home-wide sound system with XM radio, back patio with BBQ and dining table and very nice front porch. We have 2 children and enjoyed having everything so close by, including the Aquarium, restaurants, beach, shopping... We recommend this house highly and will return as it is the perfect getaway and base for exploring the Monterey peninsula.
