Want to leave a note saying and thanking John as what a great hostess he is, upon our arrival we had cereal, milk, coffee, cream for coffee and some very nice fruit, you made our arrival so pleasant. Place was clean and well maintained. My 89 year old grandma staid in the apartment as she was tired from the trip and John brought some stew he personally prepared and it was delicious we all had it my mother as well as my sisters!!! We recommend the place to stay, but it is important you are able to use the subway or bus downtown, otherwise you will have to get a taxi. The neighborhood is safe and I will just recommend to get to the subway down the second street to the 116th. Had a great time, THANKS JOHN!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thanks for review ,, glad ye had a great time , a pleasure to make a meal for your Granny , she has such a beatiful smile ,, delightful ,, if there was an award for nicest granny in the world I would give it to her, You are so lucky to have her,, and she too is so lucky to have you, Always a welcom here in the Big Apple for you guys. As with most vacations it is the people you meet and staff that tend to make or break a vacation. I have worked in the hotel industry previously and I am happy to tell you that John is as good a host as any concierge I have ran into. Before arrival booking was easy, and all questions were answered very promptly. When we arrived the unit was clean, decorated with some nice antique furniture, and stocked with water, fruit, cereal, milk, bread, tea, coffee, etc... John arrived and gave us a map of the area and took the time to explain how the metro works, the lay of the land, and what were some of his best recommendations for food, services and things to see. After finding out we were wine drinkers we had a case of wine glasses in our apartment when we came home that evening as the ones that were there previously were missing or broken, as well as a case of cereals to give us more breakfast options. We were given his cell number and told to call anytime if he could make our stay better or answer any questions. We felt this was a truly genuine offer. It is nice to know your not just a guest but a valued one. He also texted a couple times through the trip to ensure things were going well for us. Our departure/check out was smooth, payment through paypal a breeze. John's service did not end there. He offered a follow up call through our driver and after finding out one of our girls lost a couple t shirts when she arrived home offered to go shopping to replace them on our behalf. You can understand we left a bottle of wine for him on departure. A couple tips John will recommend you get a metro pass. Do it! You will go everywhere on the subway, and it is a great value over the week. In the evening get off at 86th (6 uptown train), and catch a cab back to the well lit apartment building. No point in carrying all your purchases from the metro when cabs are so cheap, and though the area is fine the ladies in the group will enjoy not having to walk the streets at night. We come from a small town. Arriving into the upper east side/harlem is a bit of a deer in the headlights moment. If you are looking for a nice, clean apartment, that is reasonably priced you will be happy here. We felt it was good value considering some of the rates being charged for hotels and apartments in the city. Had we wanted the ritz we would have stayed there. Our expectations were a nice clean place, which we received with great service!!! Thank you JohnRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car.

We absolutely loved our stay, we where a party of 6, my parents, my brother, my daughter and teenage nephew (we all liked the apartment). Even arriving at 1am without bags(the airline had misplaced them) it was a sigh of relief that John was waiting for us with a warm place and the welcome basket of fruits and food in the fridge. The apartment is great as is the great rate, making it able for us to stay in Manhattan like we wanted, everything the web site says is totally true. All I would add is that John was a wonderful host made everything so much better for us and did so much more than we expected, thank you and God bless you always. Stay here you´ll love your NYC visit so much more.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi , ye were great despite the airline losing your luggage ye really had a great time, and your friends visting was like home from Home ,,, and ye got some ,, but still happy, always welcome back. Thanks for the wine ***** excellent. regards Rose and John

I visited NY with four of my colleagues for three days and rented this apartment. It was an amazing experience and I would certainly recommend this rental to friends. John and Rose were so welcoming and accommodating. Like the other reviews mention, the fridge and cupboards were well stocked with breakfast items, the place was clean and comfortable, and the location can't be beat. It was our first time visiting New York and we were a little nervous about getting around the city but John met us on arrival and after showing us around the apartment, accompanied us to Times Square using the subway system. This was great because once we learned how it worked, we were much less nervous about getting around. He also very helpful about providing tips of places to visit. Both he and Rose are first class hosts and if you get the chance to visit New York, this is a great place to stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Four friends and myself stayed here for AKC/CFA event at the Javitz center. October is a great time to be in NYC. The apartment worked great for 5 women even with 1 bathroom. Breakfast items waiting for us was a surprise and offstreet parking was exactly what we needed. Grocery store just a block away, numerous delis and really nice bakery within walking distance. Subway was close and we had a great time for some of us first times in New York. The Meet the Breeds will be in New York again in 2012 and I've already recommended this apartment to some friends.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Cool Cats, thanks for the nice comments , glad ye enjoyed the stay. The welcome mat will always be out for ye guys. Regards Rose and John

New York City is a place in perpetual motion, buoyed by restless energy. We came to the city for the usual designer knock-offs, world-class bagels, skyscrapers, Central Park, the bohemian coolness of SpaHa, Greenwich Village, and live and experience life on the Upper East Side. The best and most pocket friendly part of our trip to New York was our accommodation. My partner came up trumps when she booked the Uptown Inn online. The location is a great universal location that is convenient, clean and welcoming. The owners even went to the trouble of having a welcoming supply of snacks and fruit upon our arrival. This was very much welcomed as our flight was a late arrival at JFK. We used the uptown inn as our pivot to sight see, rest, read, and visited Central Park from the 110th Street entrance on every day of our five night stay. The local amenities are plentiful and the array of coffee shops and restaurants assured a varied diet to the concerning pallet. Some fine gastro delights in the area included; the SpaHa Café; Melba's Restaurant; Terrace In the Sky; Chez Lucienne and the Red Rooster. Our short stay at this establishment was both a rewarding and an enjoyable experience and one we would like to repeat.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are pleased you liked the apt and the area. So much to see and do ,, always a welcome mat out for your return trip. Best Wishes Rose and John

I took my Brazilian family to experience NYC and before departing I was advised to not expect people to be as kind as we are used to. But John and Rose surprised us very much being so friendly and attentive walking with us through the neighborhood and showing nice places to go. Everything inside the apartment was perfectly organized, keys and umbrellas for each person and a map on the table which helped us a lot. My trip was perfect and we would definitely stay there again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

My wife and I, accompanied by our four adult children, stayed for 5 nights at this location. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The house was well stocked with everything one would need for a comfortable stay. John was extremely helpful and an exceptional host. Our stay in New York was wonderful and was enhanced by staying in the Upper East Side. The subway rides to downtown were half of the adventure. We would recommend this apartment to anyone seeking to get a true New York experience.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

I was visiting NYC with 2 other friends. Sept. 10-13. We stayed for 3 nights. John met us upon arrival. He gave us a thorough tour of the apartment and told us about the area. The Apt. is very clean and decorated nicely. Nice fruit bowl and the refrigerator was well stocked with Milk, OJ, Cheese, Cereal, bread, bottled water etc. etc. (Not something the previous guest had left behind) All items were new, fresh and unopened. We felt right at home. John is very knowledgeable about NYC. He was a wealth of information. He even drove us down to Times Square one afternoon. The subway is the way to go from this apt. It's about a 3-4 block walk. Cost $2.25 to get anywhere in the city on the Subway. It took about 15-20 minutes to get to Times Square from the Apt. Central park is about 10 blocks away. This is Spanish Harlem. It is in the 120 Block. I was a little nervous at first, but the residents in the area are just good hard working people. Very friendly. Never had an issue. We walked the streets early in the morning, in the afternoon and late late at night and never had an issue. There is a public school directly in front of the Apt. If you want a clean, nice place to stay with a world class host, STAY HERE! John is the MAN!!!!!! Yeah John! Thanks Again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Gentlemen, thanks for the great review, but I was only doing my job, my Mother always told me costs nothing to be nice, and yes the people in the building and the area are nice and friendly, give a smile and you get one back. Rose is particular abouts your comforts, hence the fridge stocked , and the extra touches. She said you were great guys and knew how to enjoy the Big Apple. I wish I had more time to share a beer, and a chat with you guys, but life is a rollercoaster ,, and you just got to ride it,, words from a song ,, but true. The welcome mat will always be out for Max and friends. Rose and John

I must start by saying that Rose and John are very hospitable and having them greet us upon arrival was very pleasant. They provided us with fresh fruit, water, soda, milk, coffee, tea, cereals, bread and cheese which is more than you would ever receive staying at a hotel. My husband, my daughter and I stayed at this location from 2-6Sep 2010 along with my girlfriend, her husband and daughter and we had a marvelous time. The apartment met all our expectations and then some. The beds were very comfortable and the towels were plentiful and of a high quality better than you would find at most high end hotels. I would recommend this apartment to friends and family and in actual fact I already have and my work colleague has already stayed and enjoyed the accomodations as well. We definitely enjoyed having access to the courtyard where we sat and enjoyed our early morning coffees and late evening glasses of wine. The apartment is a short walk to the subway and we felt comfortable walking through the neighbourhood during the day and at night. There are plenty of stores, grocery, liquor etc just a short walk away. On my next visit to NYC, I will stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Lou ,, glad ye made good use of the back garden ,, nice to relax , you would never think you were in a Big City so quiet,, next time we will sit for a glass of wine too.. thanks for referring you friends. Rose and John

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rose and John's place in Spanish Harlem. The neighbourhood reminded us of Toronto. It is a $10-$15 cab ride to Columbus Circle. Rose and John are great hosts. Good beds, bathroom, air conditioning and a kitchen. Photos are accurate. I would recommend this to my family and friends. We will call in again when we next stay in Manhattan.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

Was there with my wife and daughters in the first week in October. The best host imaginable, was there to help us with local information and a pack fridge with every little thing we could need. The apartment was immaculately clean, with kitchen, den and bath obviously having been redone recently. Secure off street parking was just a bonus. Apartment was very close to major streets and 2 express stops within walking distance on the Lexington Line. Lots of awesome restaurants around and a bunch of stores around. Absolutely everything we needed. When back in NYC we will be staying here. Thanks for the great tripRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car.

Had a great stay in this Apartment over Easter 2010. John and Rose are great hosts. Booking was easy and communication from the owners was very good and informative. We travelled on the day after the BA strike and when we arrived Rose had cooked us a pie, in case we had not been fed on the plane! The fridge was well stocked on arrival with breakfast items, water and other things; also a full fruit bowl. The Apartment is clean and comfortable with good facilities, including Wi-Fi. We had no problems in the neighbourhood. Everyone we met in shops, etc. was friendly and helpful. There are useful shops nearby, all of which are described in a folder in the Apartment. The apartment is between 116th and 125th subway stations. A tip; if you are travelling downtown, go to 125th and get the 4 or 5 'Express' train, which does not call at 116th. The 4 & 5 trains are only 4 stops to midtown. We stayed 6 days and bought an 'Unlimited' pass on the Subway/Bus for $27. At the end of our stay, John drove us to JFK, which was great of him. We would recommend a stay in this propertyRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: thanks for the kind words , and glad you you had a great stay, hope to see you back again. Rose and John

This apt is within walking distance to 2 subway stops. Not only was it convenient, but very clean & quiet. The owners did a fine job of stocking our fridge with milk, bottled water, half & half, English muffins, butter, jam, fresh fruits & cereals. There were even some Ramen Noodle soup cups inside the cabinet! The bathroom & bedrooms were the same...very clean & well stocked with shampoo, deoderant, tooth brushes, towels, pillows & linens! We were amazed! Overall a nice place for the price. Best of all, THEY ACCEPT PETS OF ANY SIZE!! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Manhattan or in Harlem without having to pay the exorbitent hotel rates! Thank you Rose & John for your hospitality. Keep up the great job!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for the nice review, glad you enjoyed you stay in New York , and found the apt to a stanard we aim to keep. Always a welcome mat out for your your next stay with us. Rose and John
