Here's what some of our guests have had to say:
We've just returned from your house in Asheville......How wonderful!!! The house was great, the firepit was so enjoyable, but without a doubt,,,,,the most wonderful part of the property was the guest house! Our family enjoyed the pool table, and gas logs, but the porch was absolutely fantastic! How great to sit out on the porch and listen to the creek with our family. The time we spent was unforgettable. Our parents are getting a little older, and our family time is limited, and with part of us in S.C, and part of us in Kentucky we seldom have time when all of us are together,,,,, We will treasure this time for many years to come.
This was such a blessing!
More Comments...: 'This has been a great family vacation! We hiked almost everyday...the most beautiful and fun for the kids was hiking 'Graveyard Trail'. We visited the N.C. Arboretum, Black Mountain, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, The Grove Park Inn...just to name a few! Had dinner at the Pisgah Inn - it was good, but really enjoyed cooking steaks here on the grill. We had a campfire each night and read ghost stories from a book we left for you to enjoy! We'll be back!' The Wilkens Family

Dear Jan and Keith, Thanks so much for sharing your gorgeous place with us. You did a fantastic job with Creekside! And the area is gorgeous. We had a fabulous day hiking Mt Pisgah and seeing a few of the waterfalls of Transylvania County. And the kids enjoyed Sliding Rock, though I didn't fare so well there! : ) Also had a great day at the Biltmore, visited Cherokee, and had time to explore Asheville. Loved Malaprops! And your beautiful home was the perfect way to start and end each day. From a relaxing breakfast next to the creek, with hummingbirds all around us, to an evening around the fire, we will never forget it. All in all a fantastic trip. One we plan to repeat for sure! Thanks again, Doug

Pictures Don't Do It Justice!
We are the Stodola Family from Altamonte Springs, Fl. The day we arrived we were in awe of This place! The pictures just do not do this lovely place justice! We had great fun and made lasting memories listening to the soothing sounds of the creek. Even saw some snow which delighted the 4 yr. old. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place and sharing it with us. Looking forward to next year.!

Our visit to the North Carolina mountains and the Stephenson's cabins was wonderful. These are exceptionally delightful cabins and you will feel as though you are visiting long time friends! Everything was in order, the houses were immaculate, well furnished and very, very comfortable. we hope to return some day.

Peaceful and Serene Atmosphere
Let me start out by saying Thank You! We all had a wonderful time at your properties. Everything was just as I had anticipated. The mountain cabin was very comfortable and slept all of our friends just as promised. My only mistake was not picking the bed in the wall at Creekside, that was the best one of all! There was nothing to complain about, all of the amenities that you describe to be there are there. The Cabins are literally on the side of the mountain, so you are covered when it comes to peaceful, relaxing, atmosphere. The sound of the creek gently flowing down was soothing to my ears and made chilling out in the screen room that much better. I would recommend these Cabins to any of my friends. When I return to Asheville I will be looking to stay at your home again. Thank you again for helping us enjoy a awesome vacation, it would not have been the same without the two of you!

Great three days
Great three days
This proved to be a perfect place for 7 family members, ages 64-79 from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Although isolated, it is easy to get to and both houses are outstanding and equipped with anything one could need. Jan was very helpful and pleasant to work with. My only criticism, and it is so minor I hesitate to mention it is the key boxes. The numbers are hard to see and we had a tough time getting them back in place. The rest of our trip was fabulous. We went to eat at the Pisgah Inn, and while the trip up Rt 151 to the BR Parkway is a bit of an adventure, it is well worth the trip. Both the meal and the view is impressive. We did the red trolley tour of Ashville. It is a good way to get an overview of the city. We ate ar 12 Ribs in the River Arts district and it was fantastic(try the ribs). We spent a day in Cherokee and went to "Unto These Hills" outdoor drama. It is wortwhile, but ends for the season this week. All in all it is a great area to visit, a great place to stay, and good people to work with. Phil Stewart California, PA

Owner response: Thank you, Phil, for your lovely comments and review of the property and accommodations for your group...it was our pleasure to host you all and welcome you back any time you choose to visit the Asheville area again. Yes, there are no street lights in the wooded area at the end of our driveway where the lockbox holding the gate and house key is accessed. However, we do recommend that guests bring a flashlight with them so they can have a well lit lockbox keypad especially when arriving after dark. Appreciatively, Jan and Keith
The Best Ever!Guest comment entered by owner
The Best Ever!
Hi Jan, I will write more soon. As I mentioned, we have rented many lovely vacation properties across the country and I have never been so thrilled with any of them as I have been with yours. I do want to share that with other people. If only I were there now! (Updated on 8/8) Upon approaching Mountain High, I became increasingly more thrilled and excited. Very near the main road leading to the property, a tunnel of trees began to form. Suddenly everything was a little darker. This was my first hint of the lushness to follow. Winding up the narrow mountain road, I became overcome with joy and delight. Admiring the scenery so far -- I was hopeful that the actual property would live up to my dreams of the perfect vacation rental. And let me tell you that it did – in spades! My wish list for the ideal vacation home has foremost included three elements: water (preferably moving), mountains, and thick forests. Although we have rented many houses over the years, I had yet to find a place with all three criteria, until now. I want to emphasize that Mt. High is not only located near mountains, but ON a mountain. You do not merely get a distant forest view – you are IN a forest and it is thick and luxuriant and gorgeous. And the creek – it isn’t way off somewhere in the background. It is DIRECTLY on the property. It is rushing, it is soothing, and it is charming. In this fairytale mountain retreat, my entire family felt cradled in nature; not simply observers, but participants. Both houses were wonderful. Mt. High was spacious, clean, and comfortable. It would be a great place for kids. Here, you could “kick up your feet” and feel right at home. Creekside was such an amazing bonus to the whole experience. It was my younger son’s 28 birthday and the place he chose to stay in. It had all the bells and whistles, including a pool table! Both my sons and husband spent many happy hours having their pool tournaments. And there was so much laughter – it did a mom’s heart good! And the deck – all I can say is WOW! I loved the music of the creek and the peace and serenity it provided. Heartfelt thanks to the owners, Jan and Keith, for sharing their “little piece of Heaven” with us. It must be extremely gratifying to bring so much pleasure and happy memories to so many people. Sincerely, Sam Best Wishes, Sam

Love this Property
We love your place. It is so comfy and cozy. We are thankful that you are willing to open it up to us. It has all the homey touches inside and out! We spent a wonderful family time together- living, loving, and laughing - as our father taught us. The grandchildren caught fireflies for the first time. They enjoyed the fire circle and of course, the stream. We were sad to leave and hope to return sometime in the future. It was hard to pack and leave, it is just so comfortable here! Thanks again. Linda Dennis.

Amazing Time!Guest comment entered by owner
We had an AMAZING time at Mountain High and Creekside. There were 5 of us (college buddies) and we bedded down in Mountain High. Otherwise, as you can imagine, we were in Creekside on the porch, listening to music, fixing dinner and shooting pool. We hiked Graveyard Fields Loop one day and the other we hiked the trailhead just up 151 on the right. Awesome weather and super relaxing. The wi-fi in Creekside was excellent. The description and attention to details with all things leading up was great. We had no issues or problems at all. Also, we were totally cool with stopping at Food Lion on the way in, but you may want to point out that if guests have no desire to head back down the mountain, they should stock up at Food Lion as its the last place for groceries. Otherwise, everything was fantastic and I will definitely recommend this place to anyone I meet. Thanks for the hospitality and assistance.

About the owner: Keith and Jan have called Central Florida 'home' since 1984, where we established a custom sign manufacturing business. Designing and creating signs has been a great way to use our God-given talents and also has lead us down the road to renovating and restoring houses through the years..
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
We absolutely fell in love with this property and the whole area in the Pisgah National Forest when first laying eyes on it! There are 8 homes on a total of 77 acres that were notched out of the Forest back in 1930's and little by little most of these homes were constructed by Bob Doutin who built our house in 1952. Home renovations and decorating has been our joy and given us much satisfaction, so it was a natural fit for us to find such a unique opportunity and begin a renovating process again. Our latest project completed was tearing down an old garage and building a wonderful gameroom/guesthouse (Creekside finished in 2007) re-using the beautiful rough-sawn oak boards to make kitchen cabinets and a dining table for the new structure! We began sharing this amazing property with friends and family many years ago and it only gets to be more fun with each ensuing year (thanks to VRBO and HomeAway)! Word's cannot begin to say how much God has blessed us with this place and what a privilege it is to 'meet' all the new travelers who contact us to stay here in our 'little piece of heaven'!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
2 beautiful mountainside acres with oaks, ironwoods, poplars and hemlocks towering over the wild rhododendron and mountain laurel and creek. Though we have a few neighboring homes, none are in view of our property. Privacy and serenity are key. Fire pit down by the creek.
