This is a charming, studio located in the Historic Organ Mining Town site. It is part of a large walled compound on State of NM and National Historic Registry. The owners live on site in the old mercantile store, once frequented by Pat Garrett. There are free range chickens and peacocks roaming among the beautiful cacti gardens.
It is minutes from WSMR and NASA. Easy access to NMSU, Las Cruces and Holloman AFB.

My wife and I couldn't have enjoyed our stay at the historic Rock Cottage any more than we did - it was very relaxing and invigorating at the same time. The cottage was quaint and very comfortable for the two of us. It had all of the necessities that we needed. Our hosts, Nancy and Bud, were extremely accommodating and were available at any time to help out with questions, directions, recommendations, etc. We were treated more like family than out-of-town visitors and it was very refreshing. The Las Cruces area has so much to offer visitors - exceptional shopping, dining, antiquing, and fantastic scenery (mountains, desert landscape, sunsets) and great weather (blue skies most of the time, bright sun most of the time, and warm). We also traveled to Carlsbad Caverns (overnight in Carlsbad), White Sands National Monument (about 35 miles away), and the Gila Cliff Dwelings (overnight in Silver City). All were unbelievable and worth the trip. Make sure to take the Sunset Stroll at White Sands. Also make sure to visit the Las Cruces market on Saturdays - about an 8 block area of Main Street in downtown Las Cruces is blocked off and has just about every vendor imaginable (artists, crafters, food, and much more). We also enjoyed Nancy and Bud's 3 peacocks, 3 horses, Mr Bill (the cockatoo), Felix (the cat), and Cowgirl (the dog). Additionally, if you are a bird-watcher, this is a great location. The pyrrhuloxia, scrub jay, and towhee abound as well as thrashers and doves. Of course, we fed them to attract them! In closing, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return. Many thanks, Nancy and Bud, for making our stay "just wonderful!!!"Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

We had a very relaxed, enjoyable stay and made good use of the well-equipped kitchen. The community (Organ) is historically interesting, but not much going on there these days. You will need a car, and you'll want to drive into Las Cruces or east toward White Sands and Alamogordo for most activities. Be sure to talk with the owners about local history. Our favorite attractions in the Las Cruces area were the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, and the Zuhl Collection on the NMSU campus. Would not recommend La Posada restaurant in Old Mesilla. Nice location and building, but forgettable food. Use your kitchen at the Rock Cottage.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, age 55+, sightseeing.

If you want to feel like you're coming home, this is the place! Nancy & Bud are your hosts, but feel more like your brother and sister. The views of sunrise and sunset are awesome. And...should you need directions to anything "Las Cruces" -- they have all the answers. Be sure to have your camera handy to capture the beautiful desert scenery and the handsome peacocks in your backyard!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing.

The historic cottage was absolutely spectacular! The cottage is the perfect balance of serenity and convenience, and the views are all around magnificent. My husband and I hiked in the area at Dog Canyon (near Alamogordo) and in Aguirre Springs; both have much to offer as far as scenery and exercise! The peacocks are also amazing. One of the males in particular is worth watching...especially if he displays his feathers. The cottage was extremely clean, and well taken care of - not to mention the decorating was extremely eclectic (which I enjoyed), and I will guarantee you a wonderful time. My husband and I can't wait to go back! Nancy is as sweet as they come, and the neighbors are kind and warm. I couldn't have asked for a better trip to New Mexico. -Christopher and Nicole MerrittDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

I had the wonderful pleasure to spend an extended weekend in early Sept. The visit was so relaxing and renewing. The cottage that Nancy has restored is truly a special place. The environment is warm and I felt completely at home. The bedroom includes a spa tub in the room in addition to lovely bathroom with a shower. The newly installed kitchen has all you need with county charm, too. Nancy provided wonderful treats for breakfast and fruit as pleasing snacks. Not only is the hospitality warm, cheerful and friendly, the setting is spectacular! I enjoyed bird and rabbit watching, and talked with the horses in the adjacent pasture and watched the peacocks strut around the property. Nancy and Bud were very helpful to point out areas of interest to visit and give direction to wonderful places around Organ and Las Cruces. My regret is that I did not have more time to spend in this lovely spot. I look forward to visiting again as soon as possible. Thanks Nancy, Bud and Colleen!
