Weekend getaway on Lake Maxinkuckee's historic East Shore!
With sandy beach, hot tub, and fireplace, this classic Lake Maxinkuckee cottage is the perfect family gathering spot for ten or more, or for a romantic getaway for just the two of you....
Less than a mile from The Culver Academies and a 50-minute drive to Notre Dame University, the cottage is ideal for campus visits to both. Great for long walks and bike rides around the lake, with golf available at Pete Dye-designed Mystic Hills less than two miles away.
Sleeps ten upstairs in five bedrooms and more downstairs on two pull-out couches. Front porch overlooks the lake, with beautiful sunsets making for a great cocktail or dinner hour. Available September through May; very limited availability June through August.
Lake Maxinkuckee is Indiana's second-largest natural lake. The lake's outline on a map forms the shape of an Indian moccasin, thus its name "Maxinkuckee" by the Potowatomi Indians, who once hunted and fished along its shores. Known for its deep holes, clarity, great fishing for bass and walleye, and its sandy bottom along the East Shore, Lake Maxinkuckee is one of the state's finest natural resources.
The Culver Academies is a destination in itself. Established in 1894, The Culver Academies is an internationally-acclaimed, co-ed, college-preparatory boarding school in the winter, and a spectacular summer camp for children and teens June through August. The architecture and landscaping of the campus, which overlooks Maxinkuckee's Aubeenaubee Bay, is absolutely stunning. Most afternoons during the school year there are plenty of sports and other events to take in, and the cadets in Culver Military Academy hold a parade each Sunday afternoon that is worth a peek on the way back from Sunday brunch in town.
The town of Culver, which lies along the north shore of Lake Maxinkuckee, offers small-town hospitality but plenty to do on a weekend getaway. There are several great restaurants and lots of unique shopping, including gifts, art, and antiques. At Halloween, the Culver Beach Lodge, a public facility, puts on a fun Haunted House for kids. Later in the fall town merchants hold a Scarecrow Contest along Main Street. The merchants go all out in decorating for the holidays and hold a nice Holiday Open House for shoppers. The town's annual LakeFest and Firemen's Corn Roast are summer highlights.
