CASA PÁTRIA
Why stay in an apartment? Enjoy your own private home in the very heart of Lisbon, complete with rooftop terrace and famous neighbors.
Here's what our Sawday inspector wrote in awarding us a 'Special Place to Stay 2008':
"A brilliant opportunity to live as a Lisboeta in a real Portuguese neighborhood. You are free of tourists up here (except for those who meander up the wrong hill looking for the castle)..."
Casa Pátria is a 19th-century vacation home, perfectly located in the heart of historic Lisbon: easy walking distance (8 minutes) to Lisbon's main plaza, yet hidden in a charming residential area to provide peaceful, quiet nights. (No raucous Bairro Alto/Chiado bar-hoppers to keep you awake at night.)
The house is flooded with Lisbon's famous sunlight... and its charming terrace is a wonderful place to enjoy your fresh breakfast pastries from the corner café.
Leaving the house, it's an 8 minute walk down to the Rossio, the "Boardwalk" ("Mayfair") of the Portuguese version of Monopoly. The beach is a 30 minute train ride away.
Casa Pátria has a three-story, tiered floor plan, perfect for those who will value the dramatic use of open spaces throughout the house. See floor plan on Visiting Portugal website.
