  My husband and I wanted to bring our 15 month old daughter somewhere that she could be exposed to nature and free to roam. This place was perfect! Having the beach all to ourselves was just lovely! Pat was a great host. He seems to love having kids around and even helped us to set up a bird feeder near the window and yard so that my daughter could "feed the birds" and watch them. She loved the birds and the whole trip! We will definitely be back.

  We just returned from a great week and a half at the Gate House. The house was perfect for us - easily accomodated two adults. one teenager and a small dog, with room to spare. The property is beautiful and tranquil, with it's own stretch of private beach and lots of open lawn space. The owner, Pat, is very nice and gave us terrific suggestions about places to visit in the area. We had a car, but for a shorter visit, one could easily do without one, as the village is about a ten minute walk away. We were sad to leave!

  Property is beautiful but house not so much. Very shabby, outdated and even though probably clean, didn't look it. No way could 4-6 people stay here comfortably. Only one bathroom, and bedrooms were both upstairs so not exactly convenient. Had to pre wash kitchen items since they looked filthy before I even used them. Definitely did not think it was worth the money we spent for the six days we stayed; the accomodations looked much nicer in the photos. The little interaction we had with the owner was not pleasant and he seemed very pre-occupied; not even a guest book or welcome cocktail upon arrival! Would not go back.

  Recommended for: Families with young children.

  I have been remiss in writing this review. We stayed at the gatehouse over spring break 2011 and had a wonderful time. My entire family lives in Greenport and it was wonderful to have a spot on the water that my extended family could enjoy. The gatehouse is a charming seaside cottage with everything you need. The grounds are exstensive and private, wonderful for my two children and their cousins to run around and explore. Pat was very helpful and friendly. I look forward to staying here in the future!

  A Timeless Classic!! My families stay in Greenport has become an annual tradition. We drive from Pennsylvania to take this vacation and worth every dime to get there. I enjoy allowing my toddler son to run the property or ride his bike for hours without any worries of traffic on this estate. Absorb the history of this historical property with a great caring owner who is always available to answer local questions such as places to go, activities to do, or hidden features that this property offers. A great relaxing atmosphere where you can meet additional families on the estate and share many common interests with adults and or children. Walking distance to the town and ferry to Shelter Island, but difficult to want to leave this property at all during your stay. Personally, I enjoy the "Family Time" educating my son about everything this property offers such as wildlife and the seashore adventures. However, also a great place for a adults to get away and visit the local vineyards/shops and relax with the amazing waterfront, sunsets and private beach this property offers. Once you arrive... you will never want to leave!

  Ive been coming to Cherry Lane for abt 4 years now and look forward to it all year long. I have 2 boys now 4 & 7 whose definition of summer includes Greenport. Cherry Lane has so many nooks and crannies for them (and me!) to explore, and the Gate House has been a safe place to do so. It is right near town, but I prefer not to even leave the property! I love having other people around to share a quick hello or stop and chat. The Gate House has everything we could need and nothing we dont. It's simple, clean, so bright and cheery.

  This is a very special and wonderful property. We have had two incredibly summer vacations there and plan to return for a third. The setting is very unique and suited to families or those seeking solitude. The owner is attentive and very accommodating. Walking distance the charming village of Greenport and accessible to all of the lovely North Fork and Shelter Island, the place also offers a stunning private beach. You may never want to leave the relaxing, laid back atmosphere and beauty of the waterfront property.

  We stayed here while in Greenport for a wedding in June 2011. The house was really cute, the view was spectacular, and we had a great time. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, and dishes and utensils. The sheets in the bedrooms smelled like fresh flowers and apples. THEY WERE AMAZING!!! I would stay here again for sure!
