Pendaries is nestled “Behind the Mountains,” as Pulitzer Prize winner Oliver La Farge puts it in his book so titled. A great mountain cabin and golf community set high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Valley of Rociada, New Mexico, awaits.
Rociada means “sprinkled with dew” and is the ultimate getaway for natural beauty, peace and tranquility. Just 90 miles and 90 minutes from Santa Fe, 60 miles from Taos, and 25 miles from Las Vegas, NM.
A short walk around a pond from the first tee, this large cabin (approx. 1850 sq ft) with high pine ceilings and stone fireplace is a great escape from city life. Golfers and non-golfers alike can unwind in comfort with all modern conveniences.
The split-level floor plan offers both space and separation. The two-story living room is the center of the cabin. An ample remodeled kitchen opens to a dining room and den and overlooks the living room. The large master suite has a private deck with tranquil view for relaxation. Two guest rooms come with full/twin bunk beds and a full bathroom.
Large bonus room sleeps two on queen-sized wall bed. Full laundry room, gas BBQ, satellite TV, and wireless Internet make this a true home away from home.
Outside, enjoy a beautiful heavy timber deck and views beneath the Ponderosa pines overlooking tranquil Spring Lake, a beautiful pond almost at your doorstep. Watch for deer in the evening.
Stroll down to the Moosehead Bar & Restaurant. Take a short hike right outside, or drive a short distance to explore the vastness of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Pecos Wilderness. Go fly fishing in the Rio Pueblo or Coyote Creek. Picnic at nearby Morphy Lake or right outside your door at Spring Lake.
Tour the Enchanted Circle of Northern New Mexico rich in beauty, heritage and culture. For a night on the town, or a day of shopping, visit the old Wild West town of Las Vegas, NM (30-minute drive).
The scenic golf course at Pendaries begins at 7,500 feet in the clear, fresh mountain air. The course plays 6,080 yards from championship tees and 5,060 yards from the forward tees. It has a fully stocked Golf Shop, Snack Bar, a modern fleet of golf carts, and a driving range. Golf course is open from April 15 to October 15.

We stayed and week and loved it. The tall-ceilinged cabin is very spacious and has a big skylight so it is quite bright during the day. It looks right down on a pretty pond--the front porch is a great place to spend time. The development has an AMAZINGLY good restaurant, with a very nice staff. We ate there three times. There is also a grille at the golf course. The golf course was definitely etter than expected. It is VERY pretty, and a LOT of fun to play--lots of doglegs etc. The location is high in the mountains so the morning and evenings are cool, and the daytime even in Auguest was perfect. A trip to Sante Fe or Taos is quite a trek (although very scenic). You could use this cabin as a base for sightseeing Northern New Mexico, but it is better enjoyed for itself and Las Vegas. There are a few tiny nearby towns but we did not find any with restaurants we wanted to eat in. BUT Las Vegas is a really neat town--and you can get there is well under an hour. Beautiful town square and more terrific old architurally interesting buildings than you would ever expect, and some good places to eat. There is terrific hiking very nearby and probably great fishng, although we did not do that. We will be back
Owner response:Tom, Thanks for the good review. I'm glad you had a good time. I look forward to seeing you in the future. Kurt

My husband and I and his two daughters and their husbands met at this cabin for a week beginning June 26, 2011. There was plenty of room for us to cook, eat, play board games, etc. in the cabin. It's really a lovely home, not a cabin. Although we brought our own games and groceries, including condiments, we found that there were many games, books and plenty of spices and condiments already there. Although I don't play golf, I got to drive the golf cart and watch everyone else play. We went into town where the rest of the group played tennis at the high school courts. I read, but I enjoyed being with the family. We saw a deer, a skunk and even had a visit from a bear, but the bear-proof garbage can was too much for him. We went fishing, but since we were there during all of the wildfires and the drought, there had not been a lot of stocking and we didn't have a lot of luck. We enjoyed going into Las Vegas and going to the museum and driving by the homes. We enjoyed just driving around and also hiking. It made for a really great vacation and I'd really encourage anyone who wants to be outdoors and relax (especially if you like golf or tennis) to stay here. There was enough privacy for each of us and yet plenty of room to be together. The owner called to see how we were and if the fires were causing us any smoke problems. I appreciated his going the extra mile. We only had one day that we had smoke; the rest was perfect.

June 2011 Just returned from this cabin after a week with my wife, daughter, and 2 grandaughters. We had a real good time as the cabin had all the comforts of home while being quite and semi-seculded. Two of the bedrooms and the extra room are mostly underground and cool day and night. Quite a nice cabin for just relaxing or sightseeing, golf or fishing with a short pleasant drive to Morphy Lake. Grand daughters were impressed that we were the only ones with a tire swing. Ower furnished an abundant amount of information for the cabin and the ammities of Pendaries Village. Will return for another stay. Gery Donnell McKinney, Texas

This was one of the most memorable vacations my family has ever been on. My wife, two kids (ages 6 and 10 at the time), and I spent a week just after Christmas sledding down hills and visiting the quaint towns nearby. The winter is a great time of year to visit this cabin because it is peaceful and the surrounding area was breathtaking!! The owners of this property were amazing!! They spent a great deal of time ensuring our vacation would be one for the record books and it was :)
Owner response:Thanks Timothy, love the Facebook photos!

We spent 14 days as guests at the cabin where we were pleasantly surprised at the onset by the hospitality extended by the owner Kurt Hill as he checked in with us on arrival and was easily accessible throughout our stay if needed. The cabin and its surroundings were beautiful, peaceful, and tranquil whereby we had the option of three porches to drink morning coffee, watch a variety of animals in the forest, and/or just sit and relax. The location was in close proximity to Taos, Red River, Mora Valley, Santa Fe, etc. which kept us busy during the day while knowing upon our return we could enjoy such a beautiful setting. The cabin and its amenities brought us all of the comforts from home. Although while vacationing we tried to refrain from work, the cabin offered internet and cellular service if and/or when we needed it. We have stayed at hotels, other cabins, etc. when we vacation in New Mexico however, this particular setting was more accomodating to our needs and was highly recommended to friends and family after our stay. We expect to return in the future as we hope others who seek out such refuge will do as well. We extend our sincerest thanks to the hosts for sharing such a wonderful setting for vacationers. Sincerely, Ricky and Kimberly Chalk

My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks at your lovely cabin this summer with our westie dog. There was plenty to do and the location was within walking distance to most everything. We would highly recommend your cabin to anyone. We will definitely return.

We really enjoyed your cabin. Our family has stayed at three different times of the year.Three generations have shared in the beauty of your cabin.Drinking our morning coffee on the front porch was a real treat. The back porch with its bbq grill was awesome. The best part is having enough room for family and friends to gather together and enjoy all that your cabin has to offer. No hotel can compare. We will be back.
