Quilt Top Cabin is a charming retreat for guests who desire the peace and tranquility of the mountains, but also want close proximity to shopping, restaurants, and other attractions.
The quaint cabin, approached by a winding gravel drive, is nestled in a forest setting of 1½ acres. Constructed of hemlock board and batten with a green tin roof at the top of a ridge, it overlooks Ledger, North Carolina. The steeple of Bear Creek Baptist Church can be viewed from the deck and you can hear the church bell toll across the little valley, signaling services are beginning. A partially-covered deck furnished with rockers and dining table extends across the front of the cabin, and continues around the side with a vine-covered pergola with a porch swing. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy your first cup of coffee, to curl up and read, or to enjoy an outdoor meal with nature. You may occasionally be joined by some of the frequent visitors including hummingbirds, cardinals, orioles, finches and chickadees, along with squirrels, chipmunks, raccoon, and deer. Native flowers and shrubs surround the house and property, with window-boxes and baskets overflowing with annuals.
The light-filled interior of the 2 story cabin is entered through a tiled foyer with rough-sawn hemlock board and batten walls. It features a carpeted living room-sunroom with the same wall treatment, ceiling-to-floor windows, and French doors that open to the deck. The airy open floor plan connects to the hardwood-floored dining area of vaulted wood ceilings and walls displaying antique tools and memorabilia of days gone by. Antique finished quilts and tops are hung on the rungs of a 12 foot apple ladder. The staircase of rough-sawn treads with tree branches serving as handrails and balustrades leads to the second floor. The first floor bedroom, overlooking the deck, is entered from the dining area with a separate full bath, featuring a claw foot tub. Ceiling-to-floor bookcases line one full wall, and the room sleeps 4 with a queen-sized iron bed and a trundle twin bed comfortably decorated with beautiful quilts in roses and greens. Storage includes a closet and tall dresser.
The dining area flows into an open den with a woodstove set against native rock walls. Split wood for building fires is provided on a small deck just outside the den. It is separated from the fully equipped, tiled kitchen by a breakfast bar with stools. Kitchen features include side-by-side refrigerator, countertop oven/stove, dishwasher and microwave oven, and small appliances such as coffeepot, toaster, and blender. Dishes, glasses, flatware, utensils, and linens are provided in the oak cabinets, while pots and pans hang over the bar from an apple ladder converted to a pot rack. The kitchen is connected to a laundry-room with a washer and dryer, which opens onto the side deck. Being able to cook meals and do your own laundry will allow you more time and resources to enjoy all our Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer.
The staircase opens to a small sitting area upstairs with a reading area. A romantic master suite, decorated in roses and greens, occupies the second floor with a large, sunny tiled bathroom featuring a claw foot tub and antique sink cabinet with mirror. A linen cabinet holds plenty of fluffy white towels and linens for the beds, including blankets to snuggle under during cool nights common to our mountain climate. A walk-in closet, storing an iron and ironing board, offers lots of storage for folded and hanging garments. The bedroom offers a king Tempur-pedic bed, fluffy pillows, down comforter, and quilt. Batten burg lace decorates the bed skirt, pillow shams and window covering. An antique dresser is available for storage.
Other amenities include board games, books and magazines, satellite television on both floors with video library, and local phone service. Selected cleaning supplies are furnished. |
