Anduze house description
This charming house – built in the eighteenth century as the bergerie of the local abbey – has been beautifully renovated by an architect to provide all modern comfort while losing none of its rustic character. Flanked by woods and olive groves, it has a beautiful Mediterranean garden with views over the valley. The house, in a hamlet 45 minutes drive north of Nîmes, can sleep up to 10 people. The house has been furnished and decorated by a leading London interior designer, and is designed as a luxurious private family home.
Situated in a small hamlet, the house is about two minutes drive from basic village shops and amenities (café, post-office, bakery, etc) while the small town of Anduze, five minutes drive away, has a large range of food shops and a weekly market. The area is on the borders of Provence and Languedoc, and within easy range of some of the most interesting historical sites of southern France. Among places in easy range are: Nimes 45 minutes drive), Montpellier (1 Hour), Avignon (1.5 hours), Uzès (50 minutes).
Being on the lower slopes of the Cevennes hills, the hamlet, while enjoying a Mediterranean climate, is shielded from the hottest temperatures of the coastal plain. Anduze, known as the ‘gate to the Cevennes’, is a perfect starting point for those who want to walk in the hills, but the coast is only one hour’s drive away.
The house comprises: three double-bedrooms and two twin-bedrooms; 3 bathrooms and two shower-rooms; a kitchen and double-height dining room; and a double-height sitting room with an attractive view over the garden. Two of the bedrooms and bathrooms are situated in a self-contained wing which connects to the main house- the lower of these rooms is a twin room, with an ensuite shower room, and upper bedroom is a double room with an ensuite bathroom.
The smallest of the twin bedrooms in the main house is situated off a larger double bedroom- and is only accessible through it- and is therefore ideally suited to younger children. These 2 connecting rooms share one bathroom.
There is a 10m x 4m swimming pool, lined with marble, installed in 2010. It is possible to eat outside either on the large south-facing terrace, or on the upper terrace shaded by trees. We rent the house for a MINIMUM 2 week period in the Summer. weekly housekeeping is provided during your stay, for 3 hours , at the weekend
