Our book club (it's more about the wine, food and great bonding than our book) rented Thoroughfare farm for a January weekend. The property and house are incredible. The Blue Ridge mountains are really blue and the miniature donkeys like carrots, but not sugar cubes. The owners put a lot of care in offering the best of accomodations, the furniture and decorations are very tasteful and the great room with a large working fireplace was really great for the 12 of us. Through the years we have stayed in many grand homes, but this one has the best flow for large entertaining and offered the most amentities. The hot tub is located on the deck and has amazing vistas of the tranquil mountain views. Some of us went into Culpeper and discovered a quaint, historic town, while others did a wine tasting just down the road. This farm house is a gem!

This was neither our first nor our last visit to Thoroughfare Farm. The well kept home with its many amenities makes you feel comfortable as soon as you enter. Surrounded by the natural beauty, this is a perfect place to reconnect with family and friends. Swimming, hiking, playing, reading, napping as the rain hits the tin roof, candle light dinners on the screened-in porch, sitting in the hot tub with a glass of wine under a sky where the Milky Way and a million stars provide your mood lighting, or turning off the lights and seeing what dark really looks like. The farm provides ample opportunities to unwind and recharge. This is an easy place to get to and a difficult place to leave.

We loved our week at Thoroughfare Farm. Our eight grandchildren loved the swimming pool and walking to the barn to gather delicious fresh eggs. Our children enjoyed the winery up the road and relaxing on the screened porch. The decorating is beautiful and the house has everything you could possibly need. I agree with 3 year old Ella that this should be Grandma and Grandpa's new house!

I was looking for a house for my extended family and was so glad to find this one that slept 18. Our age range was 2 - 67 and everyone enjoyed themselves. The house was clean and cool and there was plenty of space to be together, or to go find a space to be alone for a while. The pool was the biggest attraction for the children and they spent hours there from early morning until after dark. We loved being able to go and gather eggs each day and the children enjoyed petting and feeding the animals. The beds were comfortable and it was nice that each couple (3) could have a queen size bed. The kitchen was a perfect gathering room and it was easy for 3 or 4 people to be in there doing different things. We spent most of the time at the house in the pool but some of us enjoyed going into Culpeper for an afternoon of shopping, a trip down the road to Plow and Hearth and to Yoder's market, a day at Montpelier and a drive along Skyline drive. We saw deer playing at the edge of the property, and beautiful sunsets. The owner was easy to contact and very easy to work with. My family was pleased with our choice. I would love to be able to visit again in the fall or winter. I would highly recommend this vacation home.

This house has everything you wish for and more! We spent two weeks in July and had the best time. The house, the pool, the mountains, the hills, the trees, everything is so beautiful! We didn´t miss anything, it´s really a fully equipped home. We loved it! And what doesn´t really show on the pictures is the surroundings, this wonderful green hills everywhere you look, the cows, the pond, the varitey of trees, the butterflies, hearing the rooster crow from the barn in the morning. The kids loved the pool and the videogames, the whole family enjoyed the free internet, the larges TVs, the fresh eggs in the morning. It was like a dream, I highly recommend this property and we would love to come back. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home!

Everything we expected and more. The home was perfect and had everything we needed for a great stay. The Shenandoah National Park is a short drive away and was wonderful for hiking. There are plenty of things to do in the area but just staying at the house would be sufficient for a wonderful vacation. The children loved the animals and the fresh eggs!

My husband and I just spent a weekend here with family and friends, and we loved it! It was the perfect mix of farmhouse retreat and modern details. The wide-open kitchen, with its long farm table, was a great gathering spot. The beds were super comfy, and my husband would not get out of the plush robe that came with each room. And we had everything we needed to relax...hot tub, large TVs, fireplace, games, etc. The goats and chickens in the barn are also a hoot -- my son was just a little too young to appreciate them, but they kept my husband amused for a while. :) The location is great...you feel out of the way, but a supermarket is only about 10 minutes away in Culpeper (ended up being helpful for us when we didn't bring enough baby food!). It's also down the road from Prince Michel winery. All in all, a great trip!

It's like having your own farm...without any of the hassle! Everything is wonderful here. It's close enough to DC and there are options to buy food and shopping nearby. Our group of 10 enjoyed an amazing stay...Did a tour of local wineries, and hiked the Whiteoak Cedar Run loop, as recommended by the owner. The furnishings and decor are right out of a magazine. Every detail was thought through. There is ample room for large groups. The property itself is safe and secure with the bonus of complete and total privacy from neighbors! There is not a comparable property on VRBO - trust me, I've looked! Only wish the pool would have been available for Winter use, but now I have an excuse to come back again!
