Awesome View!!! New River Access!!! Beautiful Cabin!!!

At 3500 feet, the Ridgetop Retreat cabin sits at the top of a scenic ridge with an awesome view into the valley below and to the mountains on the other side of the valley. In our guest book, our renters regularly describe the view as 'breathtaking', 'awesome', and 'amazing'. Even though the cabin is on a ridgetop, it is only a mile to the bottom of the mountain and the historic New River with its access to fishing, kayaking, tubing, and wading (for our Spring, Summer, & Fall guests).
The ridgetop road on which our cabin is located dead ends just past our cabin, so the occasional car or hiker is there only to steal a jealous glimpse of the awesome mountain and valley view that characterizes this ridgetop. Eleven mountain peaks, including the highest peak in Ashe County, are visible from the deck and main living area.
The gorgeous view greets you as you enter the Ridgetop Retreat Cabin and look out the big picture windows, and as you relax on the deck furniture, perhaps enjoying the quiet of the mountains, a sunset over the mountain peaks, a relaxing beverage, or dinner with family or friends. After waking to the mountain view out the master bedroom window, enjoy your first cup of coffee and the sweet-smelling morning air on the scenic deck or on the rocking chair front porch.
If you journey down our mountain, you run right into an especially scenic part of the New River, where you can tube, kayak, fish, and even wade. The narrow paved road that runs along the river has been voted as one of the best bicycling routes in North Carolina - completely flat, but with scenic mountains, pastoral views, and the sun shimmering off the river and a cool mountain breeze to please your senses. Bicycle to nearby Todd and visit the historic General Store or rent kayaks, tubes, and bicycles at a nearby outfitter (in season). In the evening, sit around the cozy fireplace drinking hot chocolate or make a fire in our back yard fire pit, roast marshmallows, and enjoy your favorite beverage. Your dog can join in the festivities too since our back yard is fully enclosed with a rustic fence.
Our resort community also includes a small lake with a quiet swimming beach and an accessible island in the lake with a gazebo picnic area. For golfers, the Mountain Aire and Boone Golf Club courses are only a few miles away. If you prefer hiking, there are several nice walks and hikes within the resort community, including one to a waterfall (Fleetwood Falls), and there are numerous hiking trails off the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin is conveniently located within a short drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone, Blowing Rock, Todd, the Jeffersons, and several major ski resort areas.
The cabin is decorated in tasteful mountain decor. Although we call it a cabin, it combines the best features of a private, cozy get-away and the modern conveniences to which we have become accustomed. The cabin features a complete kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, coffeemaker, toaster, and all the other amenities of your kitchen at home. We provide all paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, kleenex), soap, shampoo, coffee filters, detergents, plastic wrap and aluminum foil, salt, pepper, basic spices, and, yes, even night lights.
The living area features a 37 inch flat screen satellite TV, DVD and CD players, high-speed internet, DVDs, books, games, a small selection of CDs, and binoculars for getting close-up views of the trees, plants, and animals in our awesome view. The back deck has a gas grill, picnic table, rocking chairs, and a bench for taking in the wonderful view and mountain air. The front deck also has an eating table and chairs. The master bedroom has a new high-quality memory foam mattress (April, 2013) and fluffy comforter (in season), and the loft has two sleeping areas, one with a queen-size bed with a pillowtop mattress and the other with a twin bed. We provide all linens. There is a full bathroom downstairs and a half bathroom upstairs.
We use the cabin regularly ourselves and therefore are able to keep it meticulously maintained. We hope you decide to come for a visit!
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
* We permit dogs on a case-by-case basis based on renters accepting responsibility for their dog's behavior AND for keeping their dog off the furniture and beds. Our 'back yard' is completely enclosed with a tasteful rustic fence so you don't have to watch your dog outside every minute. Due to allergy issues, we do not permit cats or other pets.
* Unlike some vacation rentals where you get keys and the cabin address but are otherwise left to fend for yourself, we provide our renters with a comprehensive information packet. This includes information about nearby attractions (trails, bike routes, ski areas, golf courses, shopping 'hot spots', & other tourist attractions). We also give you links for helpful websites, provide information that will help you navigate inside the cabin (where things are, etc.), and, of course, send you directions and a map (in the mountains often a good supplement to a GPS!).

I only gave the cabin 5 stars because I couldn't get the computer to cheat and give it 7 or 8 stars. The view off the back deck is wonderful. The cabin had everything you could imagine, from DVD's to books to board games. It was clean with plenty of towels. We were there on a cool summer week and the gas logs still had the pilot burning so we burned them a couple of nights. We had greens one night and had not thought to get vinegar which we love on them and guess what, there was vinegar in the cabin. We cannot say enough nice about the cabin. The rocking chairs on the back deck got a lot of use and it is at the end of the road so we walked a lot and almost never saw a car as we walked. I'm not sure what I would call the view, but it's more awesome than the word awesome describes.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

This cabin was very much as described - cozy, clean and welcoming, with beautiful mountain views and a lovely fenced yard for a dog to safely play. It was a great fit for us, a couple celebrating 24 years together, and our beloved dog. We stayed one week during "May Monsoon Season" and had a magical time. Surrounded by and above the clouds, we witnessed rain and sun together and alternately moving through the valleys below, offering ever changing amazing views of the surrounding mountain peaks and slopes with the herds of cows and the Christmas Tree Farm and the deep shadows of hidden places. We were more than content to stay put on the mountain top by the fireside, venturing forth between showers to stroll or hike on the beautiful paths and trails surrounding us on all sides. Thanks to the exceedingly helpful supplemental information the owners provided, we were well prepared to get the most out of our visit, rain or shine, which is exactly what we did! We would definitely recommend this cabin to a couple as a romantic getaway any time of year, or to a small family in season when the weather is likely to be more clear and conducive to hiking and sightseeing and other energetic outdoor activities! (Footnote: I just noted a discrepancy in this form's header. The property listing shows "2 baths" but it was a full bath down and only a half bath in loft.)Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your very favorable review! Thanks also for catching the mistake in the listing header. We have requested that VRBO make the correction and they have done so.

We really enjoyed our stay. The area was beautiful and quiet and we were lucky enough to have some snow (almost got snowed in). It was nice to be able to bring our lab along and our girls enjoyed having the loft to themselves. Thanks so much.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I had four 13 year old girls and they had a blast as I did. It was a little tough to get there at night and with fog but in the morning the view was spectacular. The cabin was perfect fit for all of us. What a great time.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin and everything it had to offer. The views on the way up the mountain were gorgeous and the cabin itself was adorable with lovely views. We really enjoyed our weekend. We spent a lot of time in and around Boone, which was about 25 minutes from the cabin. The cabin was great, comfortable and perfect to bring our dog. It was the first time he had been in snow and he had the best time, the fenced in backyard was perfect for him! The last night we were there we spent grilling dinner and cuddling up by the fireplace. Very romantic for valentine's weekend and an absolutely perfect getaway. For anyone who wants advice on restaurants, we went to two places we absolutely loved....Proper and Vidalia, both in downtown Boone and both delicious!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

This charming cabin, in a beautiful neighborhood, completely met our expectations if not exceeded it. It is ideal for couples (or young families) who desire a relaxing weekend/week away with some hiking along the way. The cabin is close to an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway with great trails within short driving distances. We were very impressed how well the cabin is equipped with utensils, paper-ware, you name it.... Interacting with the owners was also very personal; as if we were staying at a friend's place. We highly recommend this cabin and will definitely return.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented Ridgetop Retreat for the Thanksgiving holiday and what a wonderful treat it was! The cabin is spectacular. Watching the sun rise over the valley and mountains each morning was breathtaking. The cabin is extremely well appointed and we lacked for nothing. The owners are a pleasure to work with and sent out an information packet in advance of our stay that covered absolutely everything, so we were very confident in the workings of the cabin. We would highly recommend the Ridgetop Retreat and look forward to our next stay there!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Very cozy cabin with a nice deck out back and a great view overlooking a valley with a Christmas Tree farm. Really enjoyed sitting out back in the morning, crisp morning air with a cup of coffee. Nice den area with a loft upstairs and main bedroom down stairs. Very clean and easy access. We will defiantly visit again. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
About the owner: We have been married for over 30 years and love traveling to the mountains and wherever else we can afford. We stay in VRBO properties whenever we can because they are so much homier than a hotel room and also to see what tips we can learn from other vacation rental owners.
Why the Owner Chose Boone:
We love the Blue Ridge Mountains and our cabin makes it possible for us to enjoy them often. We are fortunate to have an awesome view from our cabin and to be at the end-of-the road, so it is very quiet and peaceful.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We love our mountain view, but we also enjoy the very easy access to the New River at the foot of the mountain and to the kayaking, tubing, and simple beauty it provides. We are close to Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, skiing in the Winter, and other mountain attractions, but yet far enough away to escape all the commotion of those attractions. We use the cabin regularly ourselves and therefore are able to keep it meticulously maintained and to provide the amenities for our guests that we ourselves enjoy. We hope you decide to come for a visit!
