Location: Boone, Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA (By New River in Fleetwood, NC, between Boone & W. Jefferson)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 5)
Keywords: Cabin Home
WINTER SPECIAL: $125/night; $750/week (plus tax; expires March 31, 2012)
(Although the roads are plowed all the way to the cabin after a snowfall, due to the fairly steep and curvy roads over the last mile, we recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle or snow chains during the Winter months.)
After a day of skiing, escape the noise and the commotion of the ski area and relax around the fireplace at the quiet, peaceful Ridgetop Retreat cabin. Or, if you want more of the outdoors, make a fire in our back yard fire pit, roast marshmallows, and enjoy your favorite beverage. Your dog can join in the festivities too since our back yard is fully enclosed with a rustic fence. The Ridgetop Retreat cabin is within easy driving distance of 4 major ski areas, but yet far enough away that after a busy day at the slopes you can relax in the peace and quiet of your own private mountain paradise. At 3500 feet, the cabin sits at the top of a scenic ridge with an awesome view into the valley below and to the mountains on the other side of the valley. In our guest book, our renters regularly describe the view as "breathtaking". Even though the cabin is on a ridgetop, it is only a mile to the bottom of the mountain and the historic New River with its access to fishing, kayaking, tubing, and wading (for our Spring, Summer, & Fall guests).
The ridgetop road on which our cabin is located dead ends just past our cabin, so the occasional car or hiker is there only to steal a jealous glimpse of the awesome mountain and valley view that characterizes this ridgetop. Eleven mountain peaks, including the highest peak in Ashe County, are visible from the deck and main living area.
The gorgeous view greets you as you enter the Ridgetop Retreat Cabin and look out the big picture windows, and as you relax on the deck furniture, perhaps enjoying the quiet of the mountains, a sunset over the mountain peaks, a relaxing beverage, or dinner with family or friends. After waking to the mountain view out the master bedroom window, enjoy your first cup of coffee and the sweet-smelling morning air on the scenic deck or on the sunny new rocking chair front porch.
If you journey down our mountain, you run right into an especially scenic part of the New River, where you can tube, kayak, fish, and even wade. The narrow paved road that runs along the river has been voted as one of the best bicycling routes in North Carolina - completely flat, but with scenic mountains, pastoral views, and the sun shimmering off the river and a cool mountain breeze to please your senses. Bicycle to nearby Todd and visit the historic General Store or rent kayaks, tubes, and bicycles at a nearby outfitter (in season). In the evening, sit around the cozy fireplace drinking hot chocolate or, in the summer months, roast marshmallows in our outdoor fire pit (wood provided).
Our resort community also includes a small lake with a quiet swimming beach and an accessible island in the lake with a gazebo picnic area. For golfers, the Mountain Aire and Boone Golf Club courses are only a few miles away. If you prefer hiking, there are several nice walks and hikes within the resort community, including one to a waterfall (Fleetwood Falls), and there are numerous hiking trails off the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin is conveniently located within a short drive of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone, Blowing Rock, Todd, the Jeffersons, and several major ski resort areas.
The cabin is decorated in tasteful mountain decor. Although we call it a cabin, it combines the best features of a private, cozy get-away and the modern conveniences to which we have become accustomed. The cabin features a complete kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, coffeemaker, toaster, and all the other amenities of your kitchen at home. We provide all paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, kleenex), soap, shampoo, coffee filters, detergents, plastic wrap and aluminum foil, salt, pepper, basic spices, and, yes, even night lights.
The living area features a 37 inch flat screen satellite TV, DVD and CD players, high-speed internet, DVDs, books, games, a small selection of CDs, and binoculars for getting close-up views of the trees, plants, and animals in our awesome view. The back deck has a gas grill, picnic table, rocking chairs, and a bench for taking in the wonderful view and mountain air. The front deck also has an eating table and chairs. The master bedroom has a new pillowtop mattress queen-size bed (2009) and fluffy comforter (in season), and the loft has two sleeping areas, one with a queen-size bed and the other with a twin bed. We provide all linens. There is a full bathroom downstairs and a half bathroom upstairs.
We use the cabin regularly ourselves and therefore are able to keep it meticulously maintained. We hope you decide to come for a visit!
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
* We permit dogs on a case-by-case basis based on renters accepting responsibility for their dog's behavior AND for keeping their dog off the furniture and beds. Our "back yard" is completely enclosed with a tasteful rustic fence so you don't have to watch your dog outside every minute. Due to allergy issues, we do not permit cats or other pets.
* Unlike some vacation rentals where you get keys and the cabin address but are otherwise left to fend for yourself, we provide our renters with an information packet that includes directions, a map, information about the cabin and nearby attractions (including hiking, biking, skiing, golfing, and shopping information), and helpful websites.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
We have been married for over 30 years and love traveling to the mountains and wherever else we can afford. We stay in VRBO properties whenever we can because they are so much homier than a hotel room and also to see what tips we can learn from other vacation rental owners.
Why the Owner Chose Boone
We love the Blue Ridge Mountains and our cabin makes it possible for us to enjoy them often. We are fortunate to have an awesome view from our cabin and to be at the end-of-the road, so it is very quiet and peaceful.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
We love our mountain view, but we also enjoy the very easy access to the New River at the foot of the mountain and to the kayaking, tubing, and simple beauty it provides. We are close to Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, skiing in the Winter, and other mountain attractions, but yet far enough away to escape all the commotion of those attractions. We use the cabin regularly ourselves and therefore are able to keep it meticulously maintained and to provide the amenities for our guests that we ourselves enjoy. We hope you decide to come for a visit!

I really enjoyed the weekend I spent at this cabin. It snowed the night we arrived and had fun sledding down the street the following morning. Because of the snow and lack of 4 wheel drive we didn't want to risk exploring the surrounding area by car. That was not a problem though because the home was so comfortable and we had plenty of good food to eat. There were also a number of games, puzzles, and books to entertain us. The one thing it didn't have was a coffee grinder, which happened to be the only thing I forgot! There was some instant coffee in the cupboard though, so thank you. I would definitely recommend this for a couple, a couple and a friend, or a couple with a small child or two. The master bed was extremely comfortable and the home contained all the cookwear and utensils we needed. We also enjoyed having the firepit in the back yard and plenty of firewood. The view was beautiful from the back porch and yard. Thanks for allowing us to have a wonderful weekend in the mountains!

...to be amazed at the awesomeness that this cabin provides. We decided to get away for a quick weekend to the mountains from the east coast of North Carolina and needed a place to stay. After searching for a few hours while drinking some beer, we stumbled upon the Ridgetop Retreat. The pictures on the website only do the cabin half of the justice they deserve. The view is amazing right from the deck. The fire pit only further enhances a nice sunset, which we enjoyed over a few more beers. The cabin, as you'll notice by the other reviews, has been enjoyed by many of which many have left some sort of trinket or item they needed while staying behind for others to enjoy. The place is set up like a house that you're borrowing from your best friend as it feels comfortable and welcomes you; not typical of a rental cabin. We can't say enough good things about the place that haven't already been said. Only recommendation is to grab food (dinner or breakfast) prior to your arrival because it's hard to tear yourself away from the place in order to drive back down the mountain for something to eat. Thanks and look forward to getting up there again.

What we really needed was a couple of days away to just unwind and this place was the ticket! We felt at home the minute we walked in, looking off the front deck was spectacular, walking the dog on the loop was so quiet and relaxing. My wife and I can't thank you enough for letting us share your home, we loved every minute. The fenced are was great for the dog, never had to worry about her wondering off, thanks!

This was the perfect long weekend destination for 4 adults (one couple and two close friends), and 2 adult (i.e. calm) dogs. The house is immaculate and the location is just amazing. We rode our bikes from the house to nearby Todd, drove into Boone for a festival on the ASU campus and dinner out, hiked the Parkway, and spent a lot of time exploring the community itself and just relaxing and grilling out on the back deck, enjoying the view. The dogs loved the backyard and long walks. Our trip was over Labor Day weekend, but we did not notice any crowds. There are other homes nearby, but the cabin retains a secluded feel. My only complaint is that we did not plan to stay the entire week (a month would have been even better). My only advice is to bring groceries, once you get here you won't want to leave. Thanks so much and we hope to be back soon!

The cabin was exactly what we needed ! ! ! We were looking for a quiet, relaxing place to spend time together, leave the "real world" behind, and enjoy the outdoors. We very much enjoyed out stay. The view from the deck was breath-taking and the colors outstanding. The cabin was easy to get to, and within driving distance of the Boone/Blowing Rock/West Jefferson/Jefferson areas which offered many fun and exciting activities for during the day. Being able to return to the cabin for a restful afternoon/evening was just what we needed to refocus our lives. We look forward to visiting the cabin again real soon. We would strongly recommend for a romantic get-away adventure.

We had one of our most memorable vacations at this wonderful hideaway! The cabin is spectacular inside and out. The view from the deck is amazing - we loved having our morning coffee and glass of wine in the evening there. The cabin has ALL the comforts of home - full kitchen with all the necessary items, towels nice and fluffy, dreamy bed, and plenty of hot water in the shower. All of the sights to see (Grandfather Mtn, etc) are close by, but cabin is removed enough that it is peaceful and serene there. We thank the owners SO MUCH for being pet friendly. Our dogs enjoyed the vacation as much as we did! We recommend this property very highly!!

My father, brother and myself stayed at Rick's cabin while we were in town to attend Merlefest. The views from the back porch were amazing The cabin is very clean and well stocked with all the amenities you would need including dishes. The beds were very comfortable. Rick was great at answering any questions I had. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone that is in this area. And we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway back towards home!
