The property was everything it was advertised to be. Very clean, and well appointed with all of the little touches (books, videos, CD's, firewood, towels and linens) and many more little extras. Also, the owners provided a great guide sheet to all of the operating features of the cabin which was very useful. A great place for 2 or a small family of 4.. Really enjoyed the peacefulness of the cabin, even though it is in a development. It served as a great base for our outdoor activities (hiking, biking and climbing). The views from the deck were outstanding. And Boone was a great outlet for shopping.
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review, Dan & Dina! Glad you had a great time!

We had the best time at the cabin. Everything was so cozy and comfortable the only bad part is we didn't get to stay longer. We went skiing and ice skating and made smores in the fire pit out back. Our boys said it was their favorite vacation and we were only there two days. We cannot wait to go back again soon!!!
Owner response:Glad you had a great time and hope you can stay with us again (remember, return guests get a 10% discount)!

We came to Boone to celebrate my husband's birthday with our chocolate lab. The cabin was lovely and the pictures didn't do it justice. It was so cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace with a gorgeous view of the mountains. The roads around the cabin were wonderful for walking and provided many amazing views as well. The area was quiet and relaxing, which is just what we came for. The fenced backyard was perfect for our dog to run around in, and we enjoyed making a fire outside in the firepit to sit and enjoy. The cabin was spotless and there were plenty of cooking utensils to make our own food. We brought everything to the cabin for meals as the drive down the hill and to a grocery is a bit away.

I really enjoyed the weekend I spent at this cabin. It snowed the night we arrived and had fun sledding down the street the following morning. Because of the snow and lack of 4 wheel drive we didn't want to risk exploring the surrounding area by car. That was not a problem though because the home was so comfortable and we had plenty of good food to eat. There were also a number of games, puzzles, and books to entertain us. The one thing it didn't have was a coffee grinder, which happened to be the only thing I forgot! There was some instant coffee in the cupboard though, so thank you. I would definitely recommend this for a couple, a couple and a friend, or a couple with a small child or two. The master bed was extremely comfortable and the home contained all the cookwear and utensils we needed. We also enjoyed having the firepit in the back yard and plenty of firewood. The view was beautiful from the back porch and yard. Thanks for allowing us to have a wonderful weekend in the mountains!

What we really needed was a couple of days away to just unwind and this place was the ticket! We felt at home the minute we walked in, looking off the front deck was spectacular, walking the dog on the loop was so quiet and relaxing. My wife and I can't thank you enough for letting us share your home, we loved every minute. The fenced are was great for the dog, never had to worry about her wondering off, thanks!

...to be amazed at the awesomeness that this cabin provides. We decided to get away for a quick weekend to the mountains from the east coast of North Carolina and needed a place to stay. After searching for a few hours while drinking some beer, we stumbled upon the Ridgetop Retreat. The pictures on the website only do the cabin half of the justice they deserve. The view is amazing right from the deck. The fire pit only further enhances a nice sunset, which we enjoyed over a few more beers. The cabin, as you'll notice by the other reviews, has been enjoyed by many of which many have left some sort of trinket or item they needed while staying behind for others to enjoy. The place is set up like a house that you're borrowing from your best friend as it feels comfortable and welcomes you; not typical of a rental cabin. We can't say enough good things about the place that haven't already been said. Only recommendation is to grab food (dinner or breakfast) prior to your arrival because it's hard to tear yourself away from the place in order to drive back down the mountain for something to eat. Thanks and look forward to getting up there again.

The cabin was exactly what we needed ! ! ! We were looking for a quiet, relaxing place to spend time together, leave the "real world" behind, and enjoy the outdoors. We very much enjoyed out stay. The view from the deck was breath-taking and the colors outstanding. The cabin was easy to get to, and within driving distance of the Boone/Blowing Rock/West Jefferson/Jefferson areas which offered many fun and exciting activities for during the day. Being able to return to the cabin for a restful afternoon/evening was just what we needed to refocus our lives. We look forward to visiting the cabin again real soon. We would strongly recommend for a romantic get-away adventure.

We had one of our most memorable vacations at this wonderful hideaway! The cabin is spectacular inside and out. The view from the deck is amazing - we loved having our morning coffee and glass of wine in the evening there. The cabin has ALL the comforts of home - full kitchen with all the necessary items, towels nice and fluffy, dreamy bed, and plenty of hot water in the shower. All of the sights to see (Grandfather Mtn, etc) are close by, but cabin is removed enough that it is peaceful and serene there. We thank the owners SO MUCH for being pet friendly. Our dogs enjoyed the vacation as much as we did! We recommend this property very highly!!

This was the perfect long weekend destination for 4 adults (one couple and two close friends), and 2 adult (i.e. calm) dogs. The house is immaculate and the location is just amazing. We rode our bikes from the house to nearby Todd, drove into Boone for a festival on the ASU campus and dinner out, hiked the Parkway, and spent a lot of time exploring the community itself and just relaxing and grilling out on the back deck, enjoying the view. The dogs loved the backyard and long walks. Our trip was over Labor Day weekend, but we did not notice any crowds. There are other homes nearby, but the cabin retains a secluded feel. My only complaint is that we did not plan to stay the entire week (a month would have been even better). My only advice is to bring groceries, once you get here you won't want to leave. Thanks so much and we hope to be back soon!

Rick was great at answering any questions I had. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone that is in this area. And we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway back towards home!

We really enjoyed our stay in your cabin! The cabin was very clean, it was stocked well with items we needed (even had cannisters of flour and sugar!). We loved the gas log fireplace and had it running every afternoon/evening. Our dog enjoyed the fireplace too, and laid on his bed right in front of the hearth for most of the visit. The proximity to the Parkway, Boone and Blowing Rock was excellent. Just a short drive over. Our son loved the loft bedroom, and enjoyed the movie selections. Before the cold front moved in, we enjoyed the 1 mile walk in the neighborhood, and loved the views, both from the cabin and on the walk. The sofa was very comfy, and that's where I spent much of my time, with a book. Thanks again for sharing the cabin, we hope to return soon!

The view from this home is fantastic. It would be great any time of year. The owners have paid attention to every detail. Every time we need something it was there - usually in the first place we looked. The cabin is nicely furnished, exceptionally clean and well equipped. Although this was our first stay in this cabin, we know the area from previous stays in other cabins. But we still found the notes on things to do to be very helpful. The only downside is, with just one bedroom, a person sleeping in the loft will wake up whenever anyone else is up and around.
Owner response:Thanks for your nice review, Rich. I just want to clarify for future renters that the cabin has two bedrooms. There is a master bedroom downstairs that is completely enclosed. The second bedroom is a loft that has two sleeping areas, one with a queen bed and the second with a twin bed. As with all lofts, there are walls on 3 sides, with the 4th side open to the lower living area. Thanks again for taking the time to submit a review!

We enjoyed our 10 day stay at this cabin at the top of the mountain. The view is spectacular and relaxing. The cabin is cozy, which is to say small, but it is a delightful gem. The two of us and our dog found we had plenty of room. The furnishings were lovely and the motifs were in the mountain theme: bears and moose. Very cute. We were particularly impressed with how well maintained and clean it was, showing that the owners care about their guests and property. This is definitely a property that we would recommend gladly to others. The owner was helpful and pointed out that the GPS machines tend to give a wrong turn in their directions. We discovered why: there is a portion of the road going in that is one-way going up, and another road is one-way going down, even though there aren't any signs saying this. The community where it is located has a lovely lake with a pavilion on an island which is available for use and is a great place for a picnic. There also is a river near the entrance that is a great place for dogs to play in the water. The nearby town of Boone has lots of good restaurants and things to do, and the scenery in this part of the country can't be beat.
Owner response:Thanks for submitting a review--hope you can stay with us again!

Cabin, area, and views were exactly as described. Owners could not have been more helpful, both with the information they provided about the cabin/area and with timely responses to any questions that I had. I read in one of the previous reviews that every need seemed to have been thought of beforehand and that was our experience. Every little thing I looked for (pizza cutter, vegetable scrubber, detailed area map, etc) was there when I looked for it. Cabin is very convenient to great hiking, very nice towns of West Jefferson, Boone, and Blowing Rock, and the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Definitely will stay again and recommend Ridgetop Retreat to anyone considering a trip to this area any time of the year.

The view was stunning, the environment quiet, private, and park like. The cabin itself was immaculate in every respect and the décor charming-we couldn’t have been happier. When we needed or wanted something it was as if it appeared-my daughter got a tad cold on the couch and there was the soft cuddly throw. We forgot matches and there were lighters in the kitchen drawer. We walked down and swam in the lake every day, waded in new river, and simply enjoyed being in the cabin looking out at the mountains. The owner was easy to contact, provided all the information we needed and all the reservations went smoothly. My family and I will definitley be going back again and I can highly recommend this cabin retreat.

My husband, daughter, and I recently spent a week at the mountain chalet. It is such a quaint place with a beautiful view. We visited the nearby cities of West Jefferson, Boone, Blowing Rock, and North Wilkesboro. We toured Grandfather Mountain, the "blowing rock," hiked, went to Tweetsie Amusement Park, the outlet mall, an apple festival, and more! It was quite a full week, yet relaxing. The owners were very helpful and provided a lot of useful information. Thanks so much for everything!

We just returned from 2 weeks at your cozy, wonderful cabin and would like to say: the only reason one wouldn't enjoy their stay is if they want nightclubs, wild neighborhoods, and loud music. The songs of the birds, crickets and frogs were like sleeping pills to us. The fresh air with ever changing natural light on the wonderful mountain vistas were a joy to see. The kitchen is equipped with absolutely everything you could want IF you want to cook. It is convenient, quiet, and absolutely wonderful. You might want to put a bird book in your extensive book collection so your guests can look up the unbelievable number and species of birds that visit your bird feeder. I loved that so much that I ordered a birdfeeder just like it to see if I can attract even half as many birds at home. It is just wonderful...thanks again.

The temperature was 5-11 degrees cooler than the bottom of the mountain. The location is fabulous. We lunched in Boone, hiked off the property and nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, toured an alpaca farm, visited the Cheese Factory in West Jefferson and kayaked the New River. An amazing view!!! Very cozy place to enjoy one of God's greatest creations..Cabin was very neat and had all that we needed. Would suggest that you add a jacuzzi to the deck..It would be great to sit in the jacuzzi and enjoy that view.
Owner response:Thanks for your kind words about our cabin. We considered getting a jacuzzi/hot tub several years ago, but after researching it decided against it due to health reasons. Even with regular maintenance, bacteria apparently builds up inside non-accessible ducts and can lead to health issues. We decided to err on the side of the safety of our guests.

Went in mid February 2008. Kids loved the double loft with one full bed and one day bed. Nicely decorated thruout and well kept. Nice big, end to end, terrace with tables chair and barbeque with pretty view. Main room and master bedroom have sliding glass doors to terrace. Gas fireplace was great. Cozy cabin for a family getaway. Owners are very friendly and trustworthy -- returned deposit promptly. Cabin had full kitchen appliances and condiments. Drive to Ski Beech was less than an hour. Appalachian Ski Mtn is closer and recommended. Lots of brochures for things to do. And books videos etc. Great cozy cabin.
