Accommodations: Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-5)
This house was originally a 1860's Sunday house and retains it's old German design. It sits on six acres of pasture on which the neighboring horses graze with the deer and turkey. The house has been remodeled to include a large master bedroom with a king size bed, ceiling fan, high ceiling, and electric fireplace. There is a four person hot tub overlooking the pasture/ creek bottom.
There is an (outdoor access) loft with two twin beds, with a small balcony. The steps are rather steep so it is appropriate for those that can maneuver steep steps. Though the house has two bedrooms, the loft room is accessible from the outside, so you have to come in thru the back door to access the bathroom. The bath has a shower only.
The front yard is landscaped with many roses and there is a heritage oak in the front yard. As the house is centrally located to many hill country destinations; it is situated on Old Highway # 9, named after the 1950's rail that serviced the area.
Nearby (7.7mi.) is a state managed wildlife area, consisting of the Old #9 railroad tunnel,whereby you can visit from March til October and watch millions of Mexican Free Bats fly out each evening. Seating is provided for this extraordinary event. Nearby is a wonderful cafe, the Alamo Springs Cafe "where nobody is somebody", featuring an incredible Friday night special and one of the best hamburgers made in Texas!
Only 15 miles from the house is the music town of Luckenbach, where there is usually some kind of music going and "everybody is somebody". Of course Fredericksburg is about thirty minutes away.
Kayak trips trips can be scheduled in nearby Waring, where on Wednesdays and Fridays there is line music.
Sisterdale is about five mile away where the beautiful, quaint Sistercreek Winery operates. Also the Don Strange ranch is about four miles away.
We will have some snacks and frozen breakfast foods and coffee only. We do NOT make breakfast. Also we have put in a stereo that will accommodate MP3 players & ipods, with outdoor speakers for the hot tub.
The Alamo Springs Cafe is about 7.7 miles down the Old #9 Highway and they have great breakfasts. Sunday they open at ten, but serve breakfast all day!
