We stayed at Almost Paradise only 2 nights, but we had the best time. My whole family loved the house. It was bigger than it looks in the photos. It was clean and very well equipped with anything you might need. Plenty of pots pans, dishes and lots of spices in the cabinet. The beds were socomfortable and all of the towels were nice and soft. The view was amazing. The most beautiful sunsets from the deck. The kids had a blast playing in the water. They made friends with the neighbors kids and got to go in their canoe with them. There is a super big grill downstairs and we had a big ole BBQ the last night we were there. My family and I can't wait to go back when we can stay a whole week! Thanks Melissa for being such a great person to rent from!

A group of 3 families have stayed in Almost Paradise three times now and each time is a good as the last. Having been a long time renter on Galveston Island we have stayed in many houses both on the beach and bay side. Almost Paradise is our all time favorite. It accomodates a lot of people without feeling crowded. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are nice. We are not fishing people but enjoy the bay and private beach area very much. This is a house I never want to leave. We'll be back next year!

This is a great place to stay, it was very roomy and comfortable. It is a good place to fish from, whether it be from boat or land. Minutes away from the beach and an easy trip 20 minute trip to downtown Galveston. The view was what we were looking for. Thanks again

I am so disappointed in still awaiting my refund. Tomorrow will be a month since my departure. I take extreme care of property and leave places I have rented with very little cleaning to do. I have called and emailed and was told the " refund was being processed" over a week ago. Still no check and no return phone calls. I could not get into the house upon arrival due to a wrong code instruction. I left to get online to contact owner but when I returned to house the maid was there and let me in. The owner had graciously allowed me a couple hours early entry but no one told the maid. There were several cleaning issues. I did inform the owner but cleaned some things myself. It was the holiday season and I was alone most of the time so I put cabinet items in order and cleaned some shelves. I could not do anything about no hand towels the entire week. I let the owner know the things she could discuss with her cleaner but I also left so many things cleaned that I am puzzled that I have this refund issue. I even asked about a longer future visit! The location is lovely and the house is fairly new. The beds were very comfortable. I am puzzled why it's advertised as 4 bedrooms when the trundle is at the head of the stairs and not a room at all. The house does sleep 12. We slept 9 one night and it was nice having the space. My sisters and kids (all over 30) thought the place was decorated nicely also. It was wonderful having 3 1/2 baths. The pier is great even in the winter! Rent a golf cart; it's worth it. Mosquito Cafe and Shrimp & Stuff are not to be missed! Except for the cleaning and refund, this was a very nice place for a holiday family visit.

The pictures honestly don't do justice to this home. It was perfect for the five of us. We loved sitting on the deck in the evening watching the sunset and the pelicans and seagulls. The home was clean and neat, the layout perfect. The kitchen was a natural gathering place and very convenient to use. The bedrooms and bathrooms are very roomy. Only problem was that most of the chairs on the deck were broken and not able to be used. Luckily we had brought chairs of our own. There are a few restaurants and food stores in the area. We recommend Nate's for dinner. The beach across from the entrance to the subdivision was wonderful and since we were there in the off-season, it was all our own. I would definitely recommend this home. As many as 3 couples could have private bedroom/bathrooms, with room for a few kids.

we loved it! it was perfect for our entire family. We never had to leave everything we needed was there. Beds are extra comfortable, clean, once goodie bag on arrival. Questions were quickly answered by the owner Melissa. the private beach was a special treat for our toddlers ages 2,4 and even for the other kids ages 8, 13. the kids loved the fishing and saw tons of hermit crabs. VERY QUIET section, very peaceful. kitchen had everything we needed and more. thanks Melissa & Grant we will book again soon.

We enjoyed the close proximity of the dock to the house, and the wonderful kitchen. We were only able to stay 3 nights, but the fishing was fun (we only caught hardheads, though), and the sunsets are great. Some lights on the dock (by the water/in the water) would have helped. The stairs are slippery when wet, so be careful. The water main in the subdivision broke the day we checked in, but we only had to do without water for a few hours. A storm on 10/9 (Sunday) made us do without electricity for a couple of hours, but we still enjoyed our stay. This is a great place for a family.

We have spent our family vacation 3 years in a row in Almost Paradise. We love the views, the pier, the neighborhood, the swing to watch the sunset, the covered porch to read a good book, and the space inside. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment for cooking. The web site was accurate in it's description of the home. The new bedding was really nice this year! The only reason we are not going back next year is we have outgrown the house :(. Our family of 4 children and their children decided as much as we love this place, we need a little larger area. We are going to do the beach side next year but if sometime everyone is not coming than we would come back to this house. We love Galveston and have been coming since my husband and I were children. I would recommend this house to anyone. The only thing that bothered some of our family members was the house sways a little at times. This did not bother my husband and I.

Our fun filled Texas family vacation!

Very simply the descriptions of the home and beach are true to the mark. The home was very comfortable and clean in every way. We were able to provide at a reasonable price a family vacation for our children and their families that afforded loads of fun for all. Plenty of sleeping arrangements and bathrooms make the home well equipped for 10 guests. The fishing was great and neighbors were extra friendly and full of good tips about the area and fishing. We spent Friday night enjoying the fruits of the boys fishing! Lots of beautiful ocean scenes greeted us from the balcony including unbelievable sunsets, early morning dolphins and all sorts of people enjoying the beauty of the bay. The water by the pier is shallow enough to allow comfort with grandkids fishing and playing. And the main Gulf beaches are just a minute away. Just a beautiful home shared by the very accommodating owners which allowed our family a fun filled seven days! The house was really nice and Melissa was very helpful with any request and quick to return or answer phone calls. The house was well equipped with all items we needed. I might suggest providing a regular mop. We could have used one-drink cans don't do well when dropped on the tile floors. Other than that-we had everything we needed. There were many extra items that I had not expected. The house was excellent. The bay area was great for the kids ages 4-8 to play in. They could go out to the end of the pier and still not be over their heads. While we were there-the sea weed on the gulf side was really bad so it was good to have the bay area for the kids to play in. One thing to remember if staying in this area-there are no big stores close. So you might want to make sure to get what you need before heading out to the house. It was very comfortable for the 6 adults and 4 kids that stayed. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet get away. We did not have good luck fishing but that is not the owners fault-the kids still had fun trying.

Except for the kitchen, the house was clean and very nice. We had 6 adults and 5 children and were very comfortable. It was nice to rent a place unseen except for pictures and have it be just as nice as the pictures. Quiet, nice neighborhood. Not really much beach, but close to plenty of other beaches. The owner worked on us with the dirty kitchen. Very accommodating and appreciated knowing the few things which were wrong.

This is the second time we have rented the house and it is a perfect place for us to stay. The ability to dock the boat at the house and go out on the bay is a plus. The neighborhood is nice, safe, people are friendly and it is quiet. This year the weather was perfect and the ability to open up the house and get the breeze off the water is very relaxing. We cooked many of our own meals in the kitchen and it was a week of fun and good friendships.

We had a little mix up when we got there but Craig took care of it immediatly. He was great to work with. It is everything he said it was. Looked forward to the sunsets in the evening and got to see a couple of dolpins in the morning sitting on the deck drinking coffee. This is what life should be like everyday!! I would love to go back in the future and will recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great getaway.

We went in mid-April, not the best time for beach-going, yet we had the best time fishing, hanging with the kids, going over to the beach, and watching the beautiful sunset. I thoroughly enjoyed bayside and would dearly love to stay at the same house. The neighborhood is quite lovely and all the people we met that have homes there are quite nice.

We spent only 2 nights here, but will return again I'm sure! With 8 adults and 3 kids under 4 there was plenty of room and lots of bathroom space. The house is well equipped and very nicely designed. The barbecue area is wonderful and my Mom, brother and husband had a wonderful time fishing off the dock. They must have caught and released 20 fish in a matter of hours! The little beach by the house was great for the kids as we played in the sand and looked for hermit crabs. The TV package is also great as we managed to catch several hockey games making my father, brother and brother-in-law very happy guys! The gulf beach is mere minutes away and we had a wonderful morning of kite flying, ball throwing, swimming and playing in the sand. My Dad who was visiting to celebrate his 66th Birthday loved the fact we could swim in the ocean in October. Overall a wonderful trip to be cherished and remembered! Thanks for such a great house!

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely home on the bay. I loved getting up early and sitting on the deck with my coffee and enjoying the water. My granddaughter had a ball on the little beach by the house. We caught crab in a trap and had a crab boil while there. All in all...very enjoyable time.

We enjoyed multiple hours of fishing, crabbing and reading. We ate what we caught and froze the rest. In our opinion nothing else could be added to this property to make it better. Team Barnes has done an excellent job on providing a well stocked kitchen, a well appointed home and linens good enough to make many hotels jealous.

My extended family stayed here from April 29-May3, 2010 and had a wonderful time! The house was perfectly suited to accommodate the 6 adults, 1 teenager, and 2 smaller kids. The private dock was a definite plus, as we fished off of it day and night. The smaller kids loved the small beach entry and the fact that they did not have to contend with constant wave activity. We did, however ,make the short trip to the beach for a day and enjoyed it as well. The BBQ grill was perfect for cooking burgers, dogs, etc. and we brought a propane burner to fry fish one night for dinner. The kitchen and bathrooms were my favorite as they were all quite roomy and the towels were spa-licious! :-) I would definitely recommend this house to anyone willing to take great care of this home, as I plan on renting again and would hate to lose amenities due to misuse and disrespect for someone else's property! Oh, be sure to bring your lawn chairs because some previous guests have ruined the deck table and chairs. Many thanks to the owners for letting us 'share' your home!

We had a great stay at your home in Galveston. We had family come up from Oklahoma for a long weekend and had multiple age groups. We were able to fish (caught an eel, sting ray, and many other fish), we went to the water park, went shopping. There were things to do for all ages. And the house was perfect for our group, the kitchen was large and had all cooking utensils needed. It slept everyone comfortably. We would absolutely use this house again.

The first weekend of October, my husband & I were privileged to stay with David & Susan Turner at this delightful beach house. We just can't say enough about the quality and comfort we found there, and about the thoughtfulness and care that went into planning and preparing this house for guests! Wow! You know you have great accomodations when it can rain a good portion of your visit and have such a good time! Just the wildness of the weather and feeling SO SAFE inside. They've thought of everything! We enjoyed the little beach and the big beach. I must say who knew one crab trap and 1/2 hotdog could keep 4 grown adults so entralled for an entire weekend. We could not wait to see what treasures were in there and then how the escaped! Tricky little devils. Managed to cook hotdogs on the grill, sleep in and just have a plane oh good time!!! It is so worth it...enjoy!

We loved “Almost Paradise”… What a great name for a vacation home as pretty as this one is. We must have taken over 500 pictures of the perfect waves and birds (across Terramar sub-division on the beach side) and of curse of “the amazing sunsets”…. The house is very comfortable, wonderfully kept and equipped. The property management was on point and ready to respond if needed. We returned home with great memories of a month filled with joy! And we look forward going back to what was “Truly Paradise” :o)

Dear Mr. Bartnes, Not "Almost" but "paradise" is a lovely home. I have rented on West Beach for 15 years - beachside. Bayside, and being on the further most point of Galveston Bay is the best yet! The beautiful sunsets made me feel closer to God. "Almost Paradise" is the best stocked island home we have visited.

The location of this house is awesome -the most beautiful sunsets ever. The house is roomy and has all the amenities. One of the best rentals ever, especially because the owner didn't have it overloaded with stuff. Everything we needed was there and we really appreciated the empty cabinets and large pantry to unload all our supplies for the week. It was clean, well furnished and the upstairs den was great for the grandkids to hang out in and watch videos while the adults visited in the downstairs living/dining room.

Thank you. The house is beautiful and we had a great time. We had one 3 year old with us, who loved the private beach and all of the hermit crabs that he could catch! It is a beautiful location. We fished, rented kayaks, and just sat under the house, which always had a great breeze. I cannot think of anything that would make the house more enjoyable.

We stayed at Almost Paradise from June 5 - June 9, 2009. It was "almost paradise"! All our children and grandchildren were able to come, and we had plenty of room. The kids fished off the dock and swam at the beach beside the house. The house was spaceous, clean, and open. I loved being able to see the bay from all the bedrooms! I would highly recommend this rental.

We had the best time! Perfect for us. My husband really enjoyed fishing, we made friends with the neighbors, the kids enjoyed shelling on the private beach, the gulf side was perfect, too. The stay at your home in Galveston was simply amazing! Everyone in the family enjoyed the spacious rooms and wonderful views. This beach house is spectacular. Our family celebrated a birthday with several families which all fit very comfortably in this house. The rooms are all very spacious and the house has all the comforts of your own home. The kids all loved the fishing dock and the sand area. We would definitely love to go back and would recommend this property to anyone.

We really enjoyed our stay at the house. It was a family reunion of 4 families and their chilren. The location on the bay was perfect esp with the little beach for the kids.As a fisherman the only thing missing was a place near the dock to clean our catch. I'm sure we'll be back.

Our Family and friends thoroughly enjoyed oursewlves during our stay. We docked our fishing boat out back and fished every morning we were there. The sunsets were awesome and the house was spacious and easily accomodated our clan. All in all a great week~.

Loved the house, had a nice trip with the entire family and all 13 people fit very comfortably. So close to the water and convenient to everything. House is very clean and well decorated. My favorite features were the porch swing overlooking the water, the deck and balconies where you can watch the sun set over the water, and the raised bar island in the kitchen which made food prep and putting out party food very convenient. Look forward to visiting again...

Wometimes you find the accomodations to be not as nice as represented in the advertisement. Definitely not the case here. We found the views breathtaking and were pleasantly surprised at tboth the condition of the home (like new) and the tranquility of it's location. The house exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be coming back!

The weekend was all too short, but we sure enjoyed your lovely home. It's hard to believe it's a rental because it looks barely lived in. The small beach out back came in handy as a storm had washed alot of seaweed on the gulf side beaches. We'll definitely be back for a full week next time of sunsets and maragaritas!

My family of four had a wonderful time at this beautiful beach house -- very clean and well equipped, new furnishings and linens, close to swimming pool and beach. The house is spacious and we had room to spread out and have quiet time. The view of the sunset was amazing and the shore birds were great. We will definitely be back!
