We stayed at Pine Tree Lodge the last week of July this past summer (2011) and spent most of our time in Yellowstone park. The lodge was nice and clean and we enjoyed our stay there. There were a couple items that could use improvement. The driveway is not paved and there was a good size washout near the steps that we had to avoid while parking and walking in. The mud room got good use as it was easy to drag dirt into it from the driveway. The other inconvenience was we were not able to get any channels to work on the TV although the DVD player did work. We were hoping to get news and weather reports. The biggest issue I had was with the owner. Without going into a lot of details, we apparently did not follow the rules with the cabin key and dropped it off at the office when we left. There were some instructions in the cabin that lead us to believe this was the correct thing to do. After I waited over a month for my deposit return, I emailed the owner asking about it. At first, she said she mailed it out but would check on it. I then received a very terse email from her stating we didn't follow the checkout procedures with the key and it created major difficulties and expense for her including changing all the locks, therefore she was keeping the entire deposit. I emailed back asking for receipts and evidence of her expenses which she never supplied. Within the email exchanges, I suggested she have the cleaning person check the lock box to verify a key was present to avoid this scenario in the future. I received no comment back. My opinion was that this did create a lot of extra work for her and this made her very angry. My only recourse was to tell her I would write this review to explain to other potential renters our experience and possibly send a complaint to the Idaho attorney general. In an email response, she said my “threat” did not phase her and she would provide evidence of her expenses to interested parties. I asked why she wouldn't provide this evidence to me and received no response. The bottom line is to be aware a simple lost key ended up costing me the entire deposit. It is possible that I am the only renter to ever lose my deposit but the fact it has happened once....
