This house is even better and more spectacular than the pictures show. The great room is large with lots of seating space for group conversation, the front "sunroom" was used for dominoe games and morning reading space for early risers. The small room off the great room was great to close off for young ones to Skype or watch tv. The dining room had plenty of seating and overflow went to tables outside. The kitchen and double ovens made meal preparation easy and plenty of room for all the "chefs" to be in the kitchen. The kitchen was adequately equipped and we had everything we needed to cook and serve meals. The two master suites downstairs have so much room, in addition to the great beds in the room, you could sleep several on the floor if needed. The upstairs rooms were each unique but perfect and roomy enough for several in each room. All the beds were great and comfy (maybe too comfy for the teenagers who slept till noon.) It was great to have washer and dyer since we had so many in the house, washing towels was a daily event. The pool was used daily and a nice added feature. Several walked to the water more than once to fish and caught enough to add to the meals. We also rented the chauffeur's house which added rooms, beds and additional space. This house was exactly what we needed and then some. Renting the three houses was the perfect thing for the 29 family members who traveled to Sarasota for our son's wedding. Parking space was even ample for all the rented vehicles. Brian, it was such a pleasure working with you and I appreciate you answering my phone calls and texts in the weeks leading up to our visit as well as while we were there. I only wish you would have joined us Friday night for dinner. Thank you for helping make our wedding week PERFECT!!! I highly, highly recommend anyone to rent from you and if a lot of space is needed, this is the house they need.Owner response: Carol and her family, were the most delightful people. Must be that Texas water ! From the moment they arrived, there was a festive spirit. I too was disappointed not to sample A real Texas barbecue. I live in hope they return ! Thank you for bringing such joy to House of Ringling ..

This is a charming old house with a lot of history behind it. The grandchildren loved the warm pool and hot tub even on cold mornings. The neighborhood is quiet and nice. The fenced in back yard is wonderful for privacy too. I left a very important piece of 'property' behind, my 'Angry Birds' tablet. :-) It was returned to me by the owner. Big relief! All those hours of Angry Bird levels gotten through weren't lost! (laughing) I felt like the neighborhood was safe too.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

There were 11 family members who gathered to celebrate my husband's 90th birthday and we stayed for four days in this unique, spacious and comfortable old Sarasota Ringling home. The facilities were perfect for us although I had some initial trepidations when I found out that the master bedroom was a few steps up from the main level but my husband had no problems negotiating. The ballroom was the perfect setting for our celebration dinner with the 11 of us and five friends. The kitchen provided all the amenities for cooking an elaborate dinner and Brian, our landlord, provided everything we required such as additional bowls and serving pieces. In fact, Brian was an amazingly patient and cooperative gentleman who answered my countless questions. He and his excellent staff promptly solved a plumbing problem and installed a large flat screen TV, at my request, when I told him my three grandsons as well as the adult males in our group were all ardent sport fans. I had given my family only the address of the house and left the interesting history as well as the amenities as a surprise... and I can only add that we were all pleased and are left with happy memories.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

No one that went on this trip wants to give a review...so I will. My parents in their early sixties, my sister, brother-in-law, their two children and myself, my husband and our six children stayed in the house for the fourth of July week last year. We have talked and talked about this house for almost a year now. We absolutley loved it. Growing up in a house built in 1910, the wear and tear made this home super family friendly to my sister and I. It's not a dump or anything, it's just a house that's a little older than most vacation rentals. The photos do not do this home justice. Where is the playground photo? There is a play set in the backyard that our three year old loved! The pool was great, the kitchen had dishes great for entertaining, thank God for the washer and dryer, more closet space than you could ever use, great closets for playing hide and seek, gas grills right outside the back door, close to shopping and entertainment. Last but not least, only one television so you truly enjoy your company while you are there. I didn't even realize that there was only one TV until the day we left. The reason why no one wanted to submit a review? Because we want it to be available when we go back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This home is extraordinary! My family rented this property and the house across the street for my wedding weekend. (wedding took place at selby botanical gardens). We hosted the bridal party in the house across the street and my immediate family in this house. This house was PERFECT for smaller family get-togethers around the wedding. We were able to cook dinner a few nights and even had our rehearsal dinner here. It was a really nice laid back affair. We were able to entertain the flower girl and ring bearer in the den (with tv and movies). There are plenty of sitting areas so that guests can mingle and find a relaxing places to sit and talk for a bit. We also had the idea of doing a "hospitality suite" at the hotel where the rest of the guests were staying. We really did not use the hospitality suite much, as the house was so much better!!! It did work out well, though, that our guests stayed at the hilton garden inn and could take their free shuttle to/from this house. Part of the fun too, was walking around and touring the house as it is unique (a bar in one of the upstairs bedrooms, showers in the closets, antique furniture, etc.). We received SO many compliments on the idea of hosting family in this house. We also got ready in this house, and it made an amazing backdrop for "getting ready" wedding photos. The furnishings and architecture are really unique and make for awesome photos! The photos on this website do not do it justice! I have to say that this worked out absolutely PERFECTLY for my family. The only thing I would note on the negative side, is that this is an old house. While the architecture is unique and interesting, there are still some issues such as poor window treatments in the upstairs bedroom that let some insects in the bathroom. Also, the showers in the closets are nice and clean, but they can be a little awkward if you want to put several people in the same room. All in all, I would rent this place again in a heart-beat! The owner is very helpful and quick to respond. We had to change our dates a few times due to scheduling issues, and it was not a problem.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

May I just say that words cannot begin to describe how beautiful the Ringling House is; and how graciously accomodating the owner Brian was during our entire stay in Sarasota, Florida. I have lived and traveled the globe extensively, and have had the priviledge to visit, as well as live in, many a palace around the world, but this home genuinely and sincerely took my breath away! It is an incredibly large home, whose facade proves to be remarkably deceiving! Once inside the home, the spaciousness is, quite literally, almost too surreal to process! This Ringling House is truly, truly glorious! This home has everything you could possibly desire while vacationing! A beautiful kitchen, magnificent sitting areas (about 4 of them!) large enough for "everyone" to gather, bedroom after bedroom after bedroom, and more than enough bathrooms to keep a half dozen teenage girls happy. The outdoor living area is so peaceful and inviting. The pool was sparkling clean and there were furniture aplenty. This is a wonderful home for ANY event, be it summer, winter, spring, or fall! It is absolutely perfect for vacations with children, and it is absolutely perfect for vacations without. It is my intention to return to the Ringling House with friends and family in tow during the upcoming year. It is one of the rare homes I have come across in my travels of which I would hands-down return! FIVE STARS!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

This is just a beautiful property that brings you back to the early 1900's throughout, with the beautiful architecture and interior design there's something around every corner to talk about. My husband and I loved our stay at the Ringling house. We stayed in the blue room which was very large including the private bathroom. The house had everything we needed and more!! Walking distance to the bay with a very well maintained house and pool on a quiet tree covered street. Now that's relaxation!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

I found this house, and its amazingly kind and accommodating owner Brian, when I was looking for a place large enough to host a girlfriend's reunion. It worked beautifully: lots of bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms, and a great kitchen. My friends agreed that it was the perfect place for us to meet and enjoy our time together. They appreciated how close it was to the nearby beach, shopping, and sight-seeing. Now, I recommend it to everyone I know. Also, I try to visit the house, neighborhood, and Brian whenever I am in town! The place is wonderful, and I am proud to give it a 5-star rating. With regard to the suggested review points provided on this website: the listing was accurate; the house really is that large! The property is historic with modern amenities. The owner goes out of his way to be helpful in any way, including answering our questions and concerns. I recommend this property to all my friends and relatives. Nearby fun includes the Ringling Museum and grounds, St. Armand's Circle, Lido and Siesta Key beaches, and the downtown Saturday's open air market. Enjoy!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our children and grandchildren from out of state stayed in the House of Ringling for 10 days to be together for the Christmas Holiday and to join us in celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We entertained 50 plus family and friends for the evening in the large ballroom on Dec. 27, 2011. Everyone attending was so impressed and said it was a perfect venue for our celebration. The caterer asked me how long I had lived there. I explained we were renting, she was so surprised because she thought it had so much personality and family character that it did not appear as the usual rental property. What a nice compliment. The home is so charming and comfortable if there are only 2 or up to 12 staying overnight. You can just imagine a visit into the past by viewing the drawing taking center ring above the beautiful fireplace of the Ringling Brothers, Mr. Barnum and Mr. Bailey, the circus magistrates. Alfred Ringling was the original owner of the home. The large sunroom with plantation shutters and wicker furniture was a favorite gathering place to play board games, cards, eat pizza, read a book or just listen to music. I heard a lot of laughing in this space (everyone was having fun)! There was a separate room for T.V watching with large comfy sofas. The 5 bedrooms and 41/2 baths afforded everyone plenty of privacy. The weather in Sarasota was perfect to enjoy the outdoor patio, lounging, eating and just relaxing in the heated pool and spa. There was all around "good energy" absorbed from this lovely home. Our experience was so pleasant and memorable that all of our families want to return again. They came from Phoenix, AZ., Nashville, TN.,Greensboro, N.C.,Atlanta, GA.,Upland, IN.,and North Port, FL. Our son from Australia was not able to attend, but he plans to the next time. Brian, the owner, was very personable and accommodating. He has set the standard high for this historic home. We have definitely found a very special new friend. Thanks Brian!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We have had some lovely guests, but none more so than these .. !! The House of Ringling is a vastly superior place after their stay .. Carol's touches and eye for detail .. made everything wonderful and the house just oozed with her class. I echo her sentiments of finding a new and wonderful friendship .. ' Here's to you both '

We needed an affordable place to accomodate out of town family guests attending our son's wedding over the Thanksgiving weekend and this house more than met our needs. We then threw a pre wedding Thanksgiving celebration pot luck dinner into the mix for any out of town guests that were in Sarasota for the wedding. We ended up throwing a pot luck Thanksgiving for over 45 guests. Brian was not only available for the few kinks that arose; things to be expected and unexpected he rose to the occasion and even attended the Thanksgiving get together with his tenant from the house across the street who had loaned us his TV so we could allow our 45+ guests to watch football in more than one location. We cannot believe a year has passed and we have not taken the time to say how memorable the stay and the celebration was for us our family and guests! So we are taking the time now. This house is perfect and unique for a lifetime memorable occasion and Brian could not be a more hospitable host. You will not be disappointed staying in this house.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: This was a very happy group. I was honoured to be invited. Ellen and her family, were a pleasure to host. It is truly what makes vacation rental, so much fun and the House of Ringling come alive, Brian

Our Indiana family is still talking about the wonderful House of Ringling! Our son was married 11-11-11 in Sarasota. Their choice of a destination wedding at the Ritz Carlton Beach Club was a bit much for our pocketbook. We wanted to make sure our family could all attend, so I scouted out internet sites for a large house. Boy did I find a jewel! Plenty of room for most of us, but I also booked the cottage behind the house for my sister's family. She is a chef and cooked for all of us! She loved the big, bright kitchen! She said this was the best vacation she ever had. The ballroom was amazing, and I loved the enclosed front porch across the front of the house. Spacious, beautiful, historic house. Plenty of parking was a plus. We enjoyed walking to the bay. It was such a nice, quiet, neighborhood Any problems were handled quickly by Brian. He went above and beyond to make things right if he couldn't solve everything. It was appreciated greatly.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Very spacious and unique place! Ornaments, woodwork, craftsmanship and waning glitter of the prewar era. The place with its own charm! The ballroom was large enough to comfortably accommodate a party of 20+ guest at our wedding. And the spirit of history in the walls made it ever so more romantic. Those few problems that arose during our stay were promptly resolved by the owner, who went above and beyond to make our vacation pleasant and memorable. This place will stay forever in our memory. Thank you, Gene and Alia.Owner response: I'm very grateful to these guests, they were delightful and patient .. We have just carried out some very major plumbing changes and Gene and Alia's party were our second arrivals, we had some fine tuning to deal with ..!! It was lovely to see a happy occasion, go off well ! We in the meantime will continue to integrate sympathetically modern expectations with memories of the past.

Georgia and I are writers from Arkansas and are absolutely in love with everything about Sarasota. My family had a condo on Lido for thirty years. It has always been my second home. Georgia, a California girl wondered why she would ever go to Florida. Well, she’s hooked. We seek out gracious, historic properties for our stays and we nailed it with the House of Ringling. This is an elegant property, well appointed and very comfortable and quiet. We value our privacy and like to welcome guests on our own terms. We could do that in this beautiful house, or hold a graduation or wedding. And at a very reasonable rate. Brian O’Donnell is more than accommodating, he was available for everything we needed. Peaceful, inspirational, restful, serene, you bet. Whether you come for the beach, the wonderful food, horseback swimming in the bay this is the place to come home to. Thanks, Brian, we hope to see you next May.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just got back from our trip yesterday and still can't stop talking about what a wonderful place this home is. We went to Florida for our daughter' s wedding. Our entire family came down for the wedding and stayed at the 3 homes that Brain owns. The Ringling Home is amazing. It was large enough to have the rehersal dinner and all our guest there. The home is so charming. It makes you feel you are back in time. Brain and Lori were amazing also. Anything we needed they had. We had arranged to rent this house and the Chauffers home next door. Brian called us the day we were flying in to tell me we could also have the house across the street for the weekend free of charge. He knew we were coming down for a wedding and since he didn't have it rented out he wanted to make sure we all had enough bathrooms to get dressed in. I would recommend this home or any of the homes Brian ownes in a heartbeat. I can't wait to go back. We will never stay in a hotel again after this wonderful experience we had. Thanks again Brain and Lori.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Well... Susan, John, Kathy and not forgetting Grace ( if you ever want a job ??... ) were a pleasure to meet. They certainly made everything go like clockwork.. It was lovely to see such a happy family. The wedding I believe was outdoors on the water, it can rain in Fl. ... but like so many things about their trip.. the elements decided to work with them... choosing the time to downpour !! There was no need for housekeeping on their departure.. And all round.. they'll be remembered with fondness and a smile...

My husband and I spent all of March at the Ringling House, a truly unique home. We were visited by friends and family during our stay and everyone agreed that the space was amazing. We all had our favourite rooms. The light filled, large, comfortable front porch had two separate areas for reading or playing family games. The ballroom, now a living area, was scenic. Look up and admire the architecture and the perimeter of the second floor with railing bordering the hallway, leading to three bedrooms. The dining room, just off the fully stocked kitchen, with its very large table was impressive. The two large ensuite bedrooms on the first floor, with walk-in closets, large dressers, and sofas, just four stairs up, were very convenient and comfortable. Doors from one of these bedrooms lead to a private balcony and ramp to the fenced pool/patio areas. The pool is heated, at no extra charge to the renters. All the beds are comfy with brand new bedding. Close by is Tamiami Trail which offers great dining, grocery & mall shopping, mini golf, etc. (north & south) The beautiful beaches are a short drive away. Lots of touristy things to do for all ages. Brian, the owner, is congenial and thoughtful; he was very attentive and ensured that we had everything we needed. I would recommend this vacation spot for anyone who truly appreciates a charming, spacious, older home with character and warmth.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: These were the most accommodating guests. They shared the love for the property I do !! During their stay I valued the suggestions from both. We set out to ' tweak ' things and had a team effort, choosing new soft furnishings, outside patio furniture and new pool loungers. Sharon's interior design experience was put to great use !! Barry did his bit on the do it yourself..lol... A truly wonderful couple and hopefully new friends ! Haste ye back !!

My family gathered at the House of Ringling in January 2011 for a family celebration of milestone birthdays - my father's 80th, my daughters' 30th, and my sister's 50th with assorted other milestones included. The House of Ringling proved to be a charming and spacious place for all of us to spend four days together as well as allowing us to also host a small reception for the birthday boy and girls for friends and family in the area. We came from as far away as Los Angeles, CA and Buffalo, NY and as close as Osprey, FL and each of us had a comfortable room with adequate amenities; and we had many other rooms to gather together or go off on our own, which happened frequently as we had an age range of 20-somethings to the aforementioned 80 year old. In fact, my parents, who live in the area, were so comfortable there that they stayed with us and didn't return to their own home until the day we all had to leave. I feel compelled to say a word about the provisions in the home; not all the towels matched, neither did the bedsheets and there was no way we could put together a matching set of silverware or dinnerware for our entire group. We also experienced a little bump in the road when the electricity in the kitchen went out (but not in the rest of the house) on the day of our reception. All things that might disappoint someone who was expecting an impeccably appointed showcase. But here's the thing: None of those little things mattered because there was so much more to appreciate - our family laughed, celebrated, ate, sunned, read and relaxed together in coziness and comfort. The one thing that the owner, Brian, needed to take care of was the electricity (obviously!) and he was attentive and innovative. When the electricity was unable to be repaired, he showed up immediately with enough lamps to light up the kitchen and save our party! And he did it all with a sense of humor and a real consideration for our comfort. All in all, the most important part of our reunion at the House of Ringling was that the house lent itself to a warm and loving gathering of family and friends. With inherent charm and history, it is comfortably furnished, spotlessly clean and perfectly family oriented and it met all of our needs. As we all departed for home, the one thing that we kept saying to each other was – “Let’s come back again – soon!”Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: This group were delightful and multi generational..!! I witnessed a very happy family reunion. We indeed had a minor lighting crisis.. with one end of the kitchen out !! thankfully we averted a cooking by candle light scenario, All turned out well... It was a challenge to the kitchenware supplies.. I'm happy to report that we have added a healthy back up of linens, crockery and cuttlery.... The house sleeps twelve, but I swear by daytime the numbers can double...!! It's a very spacious home and it almost invites large gatherings. We have hosted recently weddings, rehearsals, reunions, graduations, birthdays inc. 80th, 90th, thanks giving and xmas...Phew it certainly puts us through tha paces and oh.. some people just come to stay and relax !! Whatever the reason or occasion we try to provide a welcoming enviroment and informal setting for every one.

This house is huge, beautiful, and charming! It had everything we needed and then some. It was rented to host my my small wedding, but also proved to be lovely for hosting my family and friends to stay for a few days. While the kitchen is a bit small (small stove and fridge), our chef managed to cook dinner and hors d'oeuvres for 30+ people without a hitch. We utilized the breathtaking ballroom for the dinner area and dancing, while cocktail hour was out by the pool. It ended up being the perfect space for our needs and everything flowed beautifully. When the occasion arises I would definitely stay here again, and I know my friends would say the same, we all fell in love! It is a perfect place for family and friends to gather, while still having plenty of privacy.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm glad that celebrations went well. The group were a pleasure to host. I'm glad married life has gotten off to a good start.. I hope they may return to celebrate future anniversaries..

This was such a difficult review for me to write, I have rewritten it over and over. My words seem unable to express the sheer joy I experienced whilst staying at this beautiful historic gem. I currently live in Michigan and planned the vacation for my family and friends who were visiting from England. The house was the perfect place for us to spend time together without being on top of one another. The reception room on the front of the house is sunny, welcoming and large enough to accomodate a small army, the "ballrom" is simply amazing, I felt like a queen every time I sat in the huge "throne" in front of the fireplace. The two master suites are enormous. The upstairs walkway leading to the other bedrooms is very unique. The two en-suite bedrooms upstairs have bath tubs rather than showers, (one has a four poster bed and two twin beds) the other just a double bed, and there is also a bedroom with two twin beds. There are wonderful wood floors throughout the property. The air conditioning is unbelievable for such a large house. The pool was perfect for our needs and although we occasionally had to fish out a few leaves from an overhanging tree, it was kept nice and clean. Every amenity that we desired was available to us. And Brian, what can I say, what an incredible host. We contacted Brian shortly after our arrival, as the twin room was missing a curtain, he was there in no time, curtain in hand. He immediately made us feel like family, his thoughtfulness and generosity was far more than anyone could possibly imagine. One thing I know for sure, whenever I plan to stay in the Sarasota area, I will definitely check with Brian first.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: This is a wonderful acknowledgement and very gratefully received. The group were an absolute delight. Obviously very at ease with each other and savoring their time together. I hope we added to the bonhomie... I do not know what else to say, other than a heartfelt thanks...You are so welcome back anytime....

We stayed in this property from 30 July to 6 August 2010. It really is a unique property with so much character. 11 of us stayed ranging from age 11 to us oldies in our 40s. The house is really big and there was more than enough room for us all. The young ones all stayed upstairs and the 2 sets of parents slept downstairs. The kids were a bit disappointed when they discovered there was only 1 TV in the property but it actually turned out better as in the evenings we would all sit in the massive lounge area and play some of the board games which were in the house and we all really had a good laugh. The pool was great, took us a while to work out the sun loungers, but got there in the end, the jacuzzi also worked which was great. There was plenty of places to see in Sarasota we especially liked going to a nearby town called St Armand it was really quaint and had lots of nice eating places there, it also had a lovely beach called Lido. We also went to Siesta Key beach which was really nice but quite crowded. Overall we really did have an enjoyable time staying here it was lovely to stay in a house of this character and would recommend it to anyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: This seemed a very happy vacation. We like to promote the conversation and conviviality aspect.... going back to family and friends interaction... The house resonating with laughter and goodwill, something of bygone days it seems !!.. The sun lounge and main ' ballroom area' are perfect for sitting around and relaxing after a day of the beach, pool, sightseeing and activities.... We're glad Irish eyes were smiling.......

We would recommend this house to anyone!! When you first enter the house you walk into a lovely light and bright sunroom, from there you enter into the "grand" living room with a beautiful balcony surronding it and a large mantel fireplace and the rest of the house is just as wonderful! The owner of the house, Brian, was very accommodating and you left there feeling like you made a new friend!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I believe a significant ' milestone' birthday celebration and enjoyed by all.....

This house is suffering from neglect. Twin room smelt awful, musty, net stretched and pinned over window, no curtains. Upstairs room, double with twin beds, single base held together with tape and collapsed when sat on, mattresses very hard, no headboards. Bathrooms old and neglected, no plugs could be found, shower knob fell off when touched. Dishwasher didn't work properly and full of dirty dishes. Extracter fan over hob constantly on, could not find the off switch. Electrical sockets loose in wall, some hanging The brick work around the pool is so uneven it is dangerous, cigarette ends everywhere, paint peeling off 'small' pool, photos are very deceiving. One night was enough we left the next day.Owner response: We are disappointed that this was not a positive experience. To travel for what the guests said was " 24hrs , with delays " Arriving at midnight, would test all of us. The House of Ringling has been the vacation destination for many people, including return guests. The guest following this review, has indeed posted a " glowing review " ( graduation- Aug. 2010.). In response to the comments, there were indeed dishes over looked in the dishwasher as a tradesman carrying out routine maint. had unknown to our cleaning staff, set his used lunch dishes in the machine. The same trade co. were there carrying out kitchen remodelling. One of the difficulties in any popular property is tying to ' find a window to carry out small repairs' without disrupting guests. The pool and surrounding area has not been a source of comment, other than the pleasure it brings. The bed frame in question has been replaced, when brought to our attention. Generally firm beds are preferred, again they have not been adversly commented on.. The twin beds in question are eighteen months old. We welcome feedback, however I believe that on this occasion, the judgement is based on a certain amount of travel fatigue. The house of Ringling is a unique/historic home, not for everyone. In talking to the guests my understanding is that previous vacations were in the Disney/ Orlando area. This is very different in the type of accomodation. The pictures shown are true, have not been altered, are recent and are not the subject of any ' airbrushing ' , they are true to the fabric of the house. In summation, we are constantly striving to improve the experiences of the guest stay, carrying out symathetic upgrades, whilst maintaining the character of this unique house.

I so badly wanted to love this house. We had a large group that would love to get together in Florida every summer and hoped this could be where we would do it. Unfortunately it wasn't. The airconditioning in the kitchen was broken when we got there and took 3 days to get fixed. The day it was fixed, someone needed to stay at the house while they were there, which was disappointing to be trapped. Brian did not return our phone calls about it. However, the worst part were the fleas. We had several bites on our ankles and were trying to figure out what they were from. I figured it out when one jumped on my 9 month old baby's face. I thought it was a crumb, but as I brushed it away, it didn't come off because it was a flea. Then I proceeded to check the beds and found fleas in them. We had to bag up all of our luggage and immediately wash it when we got home, for fear of bringing fleas into our own homes. Because of having family in Florida, I know that you need to exterminate regularly or else you run into fleas. I hope he has since had this taken care of! Also, we found a pair of dirty underwear in one of the upstairs bedrooms (this bedroom was unusable because it was so hot--the air conditioning repair man told us that it's impossible for the air to get up there) with a dead roach laying next to it. The dead roach was better than the live ones that visited us, though. There were towels and sheets in the dryer that we had to fold, and dishes in the dishwasher that we didn't know if they were clean or dirty. My brother in law had to figure out how to get the pool filter working because Brian didn't respond to that either. It was very disappointing. The house has such amazing potential to be a great gathering place. But the fleas, roaches, lack of air conditioning, put a huge damper on it.Owner response: This is a curious review.. !!! submitted a year later. I would point to reviews since then and not written or coerced by me. Never the less I'm saddened by the disappointment felt. We have pest control in place. Last summer we replaced the five zones of individually controlled a/c. Also installing two further units in the upstairs bedrooms. The pool is maintained by a prof. co. There have been times that due to turnover time, linens have been left to dry in the washer, generally with a note explaining this. We take our guest stays and comments to heart and will continue to try our best to make each and every stay a memorable experience.

We just reluctantly left the house after a long weekend attending my niece's beautiful wedding at the Ringling Museum. There were 6 adults and 3 kids staying at the house, and we all had plenty of space. The rooms were all so pretty and comfortable (not too stuffy) - it's a place with so many interesting aspects. The house was immaculate when we arrived. Everything you might need in terms of towels, basic kitchen utensils, etc. We hosted a family bbq the day after the wedding. The grill was great, and it was such a pleasure to give the tour to our guests. They were very impressed with this "great find" of mine. I didn't actually meet Brian face-to-face (schedule conflicts on both sides), but he is easy to communicate with via email and phone -- and really wants to go the extra kilo (scottish/irish)! I cannot wait to go back to this place and I am having a good time thinking about who all will stay with us there next time. Maybe some new grandbabies!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: The wedding season is in full swing in Sarasota..There have been many attendees staying @ house of Ringling recently. I'm always delighted that people feel relaxed and comfortable in the surroundings. It nice that the house is commented on in positive terms.

I want to start off by saying how awful I feel about posting this review 8 months after renting this home. My wife and I rented the home the week of our Sarasota destination wedding. The home is dated and rustic and made all the more charming for those reasons. To start off, this home is huge. We had planned a beach wedding but had the peace of mind knowing that if the weather was awful we could easily accommodate an indoor wedding for 50-60 people (the weather was great). The night before the wedding we hosted a large BBQ for 52 guests and the house/patio easily accommodated our numbers with plenty of room to spare. The same number of people showed up the morning after the wedding for brunch. Everybody who saw this home loved it, our guests, our photographer. The home is beautiful and Brian is a great host who will take care of your every need or concern. I love this place and look forward to spending more time here in the future. . Thanks to Brian for making our special week so memorable.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: I have fond memories of the wedding party ( occupants ) it was a very happy event. The house was a hive of activity and everyone seemed to be enjoying the nuptuals. I also recollect the return/arrival the following day for brunch... I'm delighted that the house was a success.

We live in Sarasota, but rented this house to host our wedding. The wedding party stayed in the house in the days leading up to and just after the wedding. Everything was perfect, we had a great time & Brian (owner) is really accommodating and made things super easy. We had the wedding in the large grassy side yard (80 ppl) and the reception in the back patio area & inside. The house has a lot of character and it came stocked with all that we needed (utensils, towels, washer, etc.). If you're thinking about renting this house for an event or large group vacation, I'd definitely recommend it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: This was a lovely occasion. The house is suited to many types of receptions. The spaciousness allows for friends and family to ' spread out ' and make the most of a relaxing stay.

I am hesitant to write a review for this property. The more people who know of this extraordinary house, the less likely it will be available when we wish to return. The house is even more spacious than it appears in the pictures. The grounds and pool are lovely. We were in town for our neice's christening and were able to host the entire extended family for the day. We had 27 family members for a barbecue, and the house could have held many more. House was spotless, plenty of towels. Everything was perfect. I think the house's greatest asset, though, is its owner--Brian. Brian was a gracious host who went to great lengths to assure our stay was perfect. I will forever be grateful to him for making our family gathering one we will never forget.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

As 2 families, we were looking for a house large enough to give us all a bit of space. Well we got it here, this house is huge. We could either spend time ourselves or gather together in the evenings in the central living room to chat and play games etc. The pool was nice and refreshing after a hot day and the kitchen was large enough that you could cook and still spend time with your friends and family. Brian was an excellent host and very helpful. We would defnitely recommend this house and it is close to all the amenities. This a lovely house and an excellent base for visiting the Sarasota area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Brian was wonderful to work with! We rented the house for a week, for out-of-town guests for our wedding and for my husband and I to stay at for our honeymoon after the wedding. All of our guests commented on the great style of the home, and how close it was to Ringling Museum and downtown Sarasota. The home was spacious enough for a 60-person reception, with seating inside and a great outdoors area. We would recommend this rental to anyone who wants a unique Sarasota experience!Owner response: It was a pleasure to have the house put through it's paces, the wedding party seemed to have a great time. Over the last year many gatherings have taken place and we look forward to welcoming one and all to House of Ringling in the coming year.

My family spent a week at the property for my daughter's 2009 graduation from LECOM in June and it was amazing! We had everything we needed, plenty of room! I had a hard time achieving my goal of sitting in every room - I ran out of time! The pool was perfect, the dining room was roomy for all, and the location can't be beat. Brian is a gem, and I would return in a heartbeat!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: The house hosts all kinds of gatherings and I love the diversity. It usually involves family and large groups. Everyone a happy occasion ! I'm sure Alfred Ringling would be delighted know that the house is at the contributing to the success of these vacations... The house was reputedly built as both a winter retreat and a home suitable for entertaining, the main public room was described in the past as " the ballroom " and with it's wooden floors, pillars and balcony, it's easy to imagine the room in full swing.. I look forward to many future events and if they bring the same pleasure, then I'll feel that we're carrying on the traditions of the past....

Stayed here with several friends for a college graduation. We had the most wonderful time! The location is fabulous. The house is spectacular. Everyone that walked in was in awe of the building and decor. Can't count how many times we brought folks on tours of the house! Heated pool is just the right size and temperature, even on our warmest days and nights! The owner was helpful and available. We hope to have the chance to return!Owner response: It's a great pleasure to see and know that the house is enjoyed by so many. A positive of the house is the spaciousness, allowing friends and family to be together, and also quiet time... Looking forward to many more happy occasions.

The Ringling House provided our group of 9 college friends a home away from home for our annual reunion. The home is spacious and the functional kitchen, as well as the bedrooms with en suite baths, were all enough to satisfy our fussy group. Upon entering the home, there is a sun room that is perfect for early morning coffee, chatting, or relaxing in the comfort of wicker. Beyond this room is the main living room/ballroom with a balcony surrounding the upstairs bedrooms, lending a 1920's charm to the seating area in front of the fireplace. The pool and lanai area is private and is perfect for relaxing, sunning, or gathering at the table adjacent to the pool. We would highly recommend the home for not only its proximity to all Sarasota has to offer, but as a perfect setting for any type of gathering of friends or family. Furthermore, Brian is both charming and accommodating. What more could you ask for?!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: This group were delightful and seemed to have fun... It's wonderful when friends and family come together under one roof, it engenders a real feel good factor !. House of Ringling offers an intimacy that you can't always achieve in a hotel enviroment, still allowing people their own privacy and quiet time. I look forward to welcoming many more guests and to the return of now ' old friends '...

This property is a steal at this rate. The rooms are huge and very welcoming. My family and I loved it and didn't want to leave. It really is a "home" away from home. Spacious and clean, and the private pool and yard were great! Brian was very friendly as well as extremely accomodating. We are already planning to come back next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: It's a pleasure to have large groups of people, whether family or friends, House of Ringling works well for such.Throughout the last twelve months it has been occupied for many different events and due to the size and uniqueness, provides something special and a feeling of bygone days, combined with modern updates.
