Escape the city and enjoy the piece and quiet of Maine coastal island life! Peaks Island is a quaint, artsy, laid back island a short 20-minute ferry ride from Portland, Maine. Adorable 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 900 sq. ft. cottage located in a quiet neighborhood only a 10 minute walk from the "down front" where the ferry dock, the island's excellent restaurants, grocery store, post office, gift shops, and art gallery are all located. Tastefully decorated and fully furnished, the cottage has a large front porch and an uncovered deck for enjoying the fresh air.
On the island, you can enjoy the rocky or sandy beaches (10 minute walk), running/walking the road by the surf around the island, kayak rental, bicycle rental, or any of the island's restaurants. There is a Civil War Museum and an Art Gallery with local artisans' works on the island as well. Or if you would like to try a meal, shopping, or museum-hopping in Portland, the ferry runs almost hourly from approximately 6am to 11pm. every day.
