We spend two weeks in the condo and had a fantastic time! We brought our two boys age 12 and 10 and they had a blast, snorkeling and swimming. It's situated perfectly between the main part of Akumal Beach and Half Moon Bay. Definitely walking distance to both areas. Mi Casa Del Mar is very well designed, from the expansive breezeway through to the horizon pool overlooking the ocean. You will have a family of iguanas as your constant companions when you are out by the pool. The people who manage the building are very nice and will help you with anything you need. Roger is the manager and was a pleasure to chat with. Then there is Epi and Jorge, who are also very friendly. They will answer any questions you might have and help you with your bags. Roger speaks very good English and is available by phone and email. The house keeper was accomodating to our schedule and is available either every day or once every two days. There is a house phone to the side of the breezeway, so you don't even need a cell phone except for emergency use. The condo (2B) is beautiful and has an excellent view of the ocean an overlooks the pool. It's very spacious and has nice high ceilings. The balcony sliding glass doors open up a huge area to the outside ocean breeze. The living room is very nice and there is a large flat screen tv with satellite channels. Wireless internet is in the condo and we were also able to access a second wireless access point if we had trouble with the first. Both bedrooms are a decent size and have air conditioners that work well. We felt at home the whole time we were there.
Owner response:Thank you so very much for your kind words and the time that it took you to write them. We are so happy that your vacation was all you wanted it to be and we hope you can return to us in the future. Sincerely

This was our third vacation to Akumal and have to say we were totally thrilled with the accomodations. We totally agree that the pictures do not reflect the hard copy. Epi allways had a smile and was always very helpful. Merille (?) kept the place spotless. We preordered groceries and they were waiting. The seventeen days flew very fast. Thank you so much for allowing families an opportunity to be able to rent your condo. The pool was welcoming and enjoyed. As far as the area goes you feel totally safe. We walked, biked and drove without any problems. We were a party of four. A couple with a twelve year old son and his eighty year old grandmother. Even the grandmother comment on how clean the condo was and safe she felt in the area. We would certainly recommend this place to anyone.
Owner response:Thank you so much for your kind words and I do hope we see you again in Akumal.

We loved this condo, it was much more spacious than we had thought from the photos. It was spotlessly clean and perfectly located. We walked to either Akumal village for breakfast and to snorkel with turtles, or to Half Moon Bay for wonderful sundowners. We rented bikes (they found one for our 8 year old) and cycled to the lagoon and all over town. We spent a fantastic day at Xcaret with the boys (aged 8,11). The pool at the condo was a highlight for the kids after a full day at the beach, or first thing in the morning while we were getting things together for the day. Staff was helpful, we needed a toaster oven to cook for our multiple food allergy kid, and one was delivered first thing in the morning! We will certainly be coming back, Akumal is perfect for families. This was our second visit to this region and we still feel like there is loads more to do. Don't hesitate to rent and explore the area!
Owner response:It was our pleasure to have you. Please come back to visit us.

This condo unit is wonderful. The location is great being very close to both Akumal and Half Moon Bays. It was exactly as advertised except the view from the deck. It was better than described, so beautiful and restful. I would recommend this unit to my friends and relatives. We love Akumal having travelled here before, this year we took a kayak tour in the biosphere. The bird life was very good and we even saw a crocodile! We hope to rent this unit again.
Owner response:Thank you very much for your kind words. Akumal is like a little capsule in time and our home there is very special as well. We are happy that you enjoyed it and we hope to see you again.

I can't say enough nice things about the condo at Mi Casa Del Mar. Like most others who have posted here, I don't feel the photos, which are beautiful, really begin to do justice to the space. It is open, inviting and oh so comfortable. The furnishings are beautiful and Akumal was the perfect place to be for my first trip to Mexico. The village is quaint, the people are charming and friendly and Juan, who is pictured at the end of the photos, gives a wonderful massage on the beach. We had a lovely time gathering around the pool in the evening with others who were staying in condos on the property. Jorge, who lives on the property was so helpful, despite my poor Spanish skills. Especially lovely was meeting the owners of Tequilaville, who live in one of the condos, and operates this small restaurant in Akumal Pueblo. Don't let the name fool you, I had the best Coconut Shrimp of my life for dinner! I would recommend without hesitation this warm and inviting place!
Owner response:Thank you so very much for taking the time to review our home in Akumal. I almost live vicariously with each guest. I hope you can visit us again in the future. Dont forget that with three referrals of one week, you will get one week free. Many thanks. J

We visited Akumal with another couple for a week and stayed at this wonderful condo. Thank you so much for opening your place up to renters! We enjoyed our time snorkeling and lounging by the pool. We did rent a car to explore the area but really spent the majority of our time at the condo or down the road at the local bars. There is plenty of room for 2 couples and more! Akumal is a great little place and we would recommend this place as a home away from home. We will be back for our yearly vacation. Thanks again! Tanya and Shane I am sure Krista and Jared would say Thanks! as well.

We just returned from two weeks at this condo and we were so impressed with the beautiful furnishings of spacious furniture and gorgeous art. The layout for four people was extremely comfortable, plenty of room and easy to use internet access and t.v., video and dvd player. We never required assitance in our two weeks and felt extremely safe. The condo is located on a quiet street but within walking distance to all of Akumal. We were there for two weeks in January and only had two days of partial rain. Akumal is within easy driving distance to all of the Mayan ruins nearby and the Akumal condo was a delight to come back to after local trips to sightsee.
Owner response:You are so very kind to take the time to leave your comments. Each time I read a review for our home in Akumal, i almost transport back there on the balcony watching the turquoise water lap up on the beach. We hope you can visit again. All the best, Jane

We (3) stayed for two weeks and it was the best vacation ever! The property is just as described and felt very welcoming. The veiw was amazing from balcony and silky white sand beach a 4-5 min walk down the road. We felt safe at all time during our walks, even after dark. The advise from the owner was perfect and proved to be correct. Akumal is a great home base for siteseeing. 10 min to Tulum and 30 min to Playa del Carmen. The people living and working in the area are super friendly, most spoke enough english for non-spanish speakers to be comfortable. We went deep sea fishing from the Akumal Dive shop and not only did we catch great fish but because the captain had no other resevations he prepared the fish and set us up under a palm tree on the beach to enjoy it. Complete with chairs for the whole afternoon and a table!! This was my first trip to Mexico and I am in Love!! Won't ever go to Hawiia again.
Owner response:Wow, if I could, I would have your family as my official spokes person! Thank you for your kind words. I hope you are able to return soon. Our return friends always get special considerations. Love to you and your family. Jane

We stayed in this beautiful condo June 18-26, 2010. Immediately when we showed up at the condo we were greeted by Epi who introduced himself with a warm smile and walked us straight to the condo. We opened the door and the condo just seemed to reach out and embrace us with a warm tropical spirit ... the condo is larger than some of the others we saw , we were very happy with the accomadating kitchen and ample dining and living areas and the terrace overlooking the pool and the ocean. The air conditioning in the bedrooms work excellent and allows for restful sleeping at night. While we were there we toured the Biosphere with Sian Ka'an , floating down a Mayan made canal on life vests - a must do! It is amazing! We snorkeled at Yal Ku and Akumal Bay ( both are a short distance from the condo ) and saw amazing fish and sea life. We did a mixture of eating in and eating out - we bought a roasted chicken at the local marked right in Akumal and made beans and tortillas with all the fixin's to go along with it - an easy, yummy and satsifying meal for staying in. We bought fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, pancake mix, eggs, potatoes, at the market across the highway in town for breakfast in. We ate out at La Buena Vida ( fish tacos and beer my favorite) and Turtle Bay Bakery for wonderful breakfast , Akumalito which is the outside counter top eatery - yummy food for a very affordable price - get the Limonada! We also visited the ruins in Tulum - it was very hot that day , bring water but it is a must do and only about a 20-30 minute drive from Akumal then after we went shopping in Tulum proper - lots of good shops with the traditional mexican bartering - fun! Good food there also for a good price. Our trip was a perfect blend of rest and adventure - we have many good memories of Akumal and Mi Casa Del Mar to carry in our hearts and hope to make it back so we can see a cenote ( one the things we did not get to do as tropical storm Alex came through the day we had planned to go ). Thank you Whaley Family for opening up your Mayan Paradise to us - we just loved it!
Owner response:WE are so very happy that your stay was a wonderful one. We liver vicariously through our guests! Thank you very much for the time it took to write you beautiful review. We hope to see you again in Akumal. All our best to you, Jane and Bill

Mi Casa Del Mar more than lived up to it's press. We (2 adults, 2 late teens) had an excellent 10 days. The apartment is both both beautiful and comfortable (as well as well-maintained). There is lots to do - snorkling (in the sea for fish/coral, and for turtles), rock pool poking, bird watching, cenote exploring and checking out ruins. We would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at Mi Casa del Mar in April 2010 and had a wonderful time. The apartment is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. It is also a lot more spacious than it appears on the photos! We found the beds very comfortable, the living areas very relaxing and the kitchen very well equipped. The cleaner did a great job and our son enjoyed seeing what shape she had arranged his towel in each day! The building felt very safe and secure and the swimming pool and surrounding beach is lovely. Roger the caretaker was extremely helpful, giving us lots of local information and even taking us to the local doctor when our son had an ear infection, which was a huge help to us! I would definitely recommend this property to others and would happily return there in the future!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your kind words. Akumal is a wonderful place of its own. To visit it is to love it. Our manager, Roger, is such a lovely person. He is always there to help in any way. We hope to see you and your family again. Jane

An amazing condo in a terrific location! Our vacation at the Whaley condo in Akumal was fantastic. The condo itself is spacious, beautifully decorated, fully equipped and immaculate. Imagine sitting in a hammock gazing out at an unspoiled ocean view with a gentle breeze blowing through your hair, sipping a beverage of your choice. The services and advice of the warm and helpful property manager, Roger, were an added plus. Akumal is a charming, low key village in an unspoiled area of the Mayan Riveria. (The antithesis of Cancun!) From the condo you can walk to a beautiful beach, several outdoor, relaxed restaurants and beach bars, dive shop and grocery. Special treat: A massage therapist right at the beach. The nearby bustling little town of Tulum is fun, filled with authentic restaurants, gorgeous beach and authentic Mayan ruins. The vacation was a real bargain when compared to similar stays in a major Mexican resort, Caribbean or Florida. The condo and Akumal give the flavor of being in Mexico not at a nameless, plastic resort. We highly recommend this property--and plan to return in 2011.
Owner response:Thank you very much for your wonderful comments. We try very hard to make our home in Akumal special for all of our guests. It really is a little piece of heaven. Thanks you for staying in our home. Jane and Bill

"My two adult children & I had the best vacation of our lives in this amazing beach front condo in Jan. 2010. Akumal provided a low-key, respite from the midwest winter. The beauty of the place seeped into our bones, and we found most of our time spent right in town. The condo has an ideal location, 10 minutes walk from the town square in one direction and Half Moon Bay amenities (restaurant, dive shop, white sand beach) in the other. Each morning, this night owl got up at the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise- something I hadn't done in years! "Stunning" does not begin to describe that experience... dawn's curtain of pinks, reds, violets and golds opened to full disclosure as the sun popped out of the horizon and reflected on the expanse of ocean outside our balcony view. The moon rise on the other end of the day was equally gorgeous. I could have stayed in the hammock chairs watching ocean the whole trip. We walked the beach most days, picking our way through the most wonderful coral. While the beach outside the condo was not sandy at all, the coral there was spectacular.(souvenirs!) For food, we ate out once a day, mostly the local places. (La Buena Vida was a daily stop for fresh guacamole) For other meals/nightly margaritas, we used the well stocked kitchen. The town grocery was fine for our needs, though we did stop in Playa Del Carmen on the way in for basics- in hind site, unnecessary for a week's stay. A few things you should know about the condo: 1st- It's roomy & gorgeous. The blow up queen mattress is no longer there, but the den sofa was a comfy bed for one, and my daughter LOVED sleeping to the sound of the ocean. The beds and main sofa are on concrete slabs, so don't expect them to be moved to accommodate an air mattress. Balcony is HUGE- we thought about sleeping out there. The building was VERY quite, even fully rented. Felt very safe. The property manager, Roger, was a jewel! Very friendly & knowledgeable. We were on a tight budget and he told us our best bets and what to avoid. High on our list of excursions: ruins of Tulum and Coba; village of Tulum for shopping, bakery, local food. Playa del Carmen for better restaurants: we recommend Alux for drinks & dessert- it's a CAVE! Fabulous experience. Gourmet Mayan food at Yaxche- 8th st between 5ave & 10ave. Quinta Ave- too touristy for our taste. I'd be glad to tell more by email- ask owner for my email! This was my 1st VRBO experience & I was a bit nervous. Don't hesitate
Owner response:Thank you, Beryl, so much for your kind comments. The queen blow-up is now replaced, and sorry for the invonvience. We hope to see you and your family there again soon!

My husband and I stayed at this property for 10 nights with our 10-year-old daughter in early July 2009. We all enjoyed ourselves so much that we would definitely like to return. The condo was immaculate, well-equipped and even nicer than the pictures. The view is spectacular, the pool incredibly lovely (very good size) and the walk to a sandy beach nearby extremely short. The ceiling fans along with the breeze from the ocean kept the place nicely cooled during the day and the a/c in the bedrooms was perfect for night. Dealing with Jane and Bill and their property manager was a pleasure. We rented a car to explore the region (visited Tulum, Coba, Playa del Carmen and several cenotes) but it's not a necessity. We had a wonderful time swimming, snorkeling and check out the ruins. We also had a lovely time during our siestas with the books, games, great wifi connection and DVDs/videos provided. The restaurants in the area were fantastic - we especially liked Turtle Bay Cafe and Cueva de la Pescador. And Lucy's Ice Cream was delicious. We also highly recommend the evening turtle walk through the CEA. We got to see a 400 lb. green turtle lay her eggs in a hole on the beach and cover them up. We rarely return to places (too much to see elsewhere!) but we all agreed that we would not only love to go back to Akumal but that we would love to go back to this same property - which is saying a lot. We can't recommend it highly enough and would be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the property or area.

My friend and I spent a week here in February 2009. As echoed by others, Akumal is a wonderful laid-back little town and this is a beautiful condo right on the ocean. The place is very comfortable with everything you need to feel at home. The condo complex is very small and we felt we had the place to ourselves much of the time. The small infinity pool is beautiful. The unit is located within walking distance to a number of fine restaurants and a spa at the Akumal Beach Resort where I had a wonderful massage within 100 feet of the ocean. There is excellent snorkeling within walking distance as well and places to rent equipment both in Akumal and north of the condo. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place - it was the most relaxing vacation and I would return in a second!

The condo was immaculate, beautifully decorated and so comfortable. It had everything we needed. We loved having breakfast on the balcony every morning and hanging in the hammock chairs reading our books every afternoon. The manager helped us with all our excusions and with the translating. Akumal was so much fun. We loved snorkling the bay, the lagoon and the cenotes. We could walk to all the restaurants. That was very convenient. Our favorite restaurants were Que Onda and LA Buena Vida - where you can go up in a tree and eat or swing by the bar. We did everything in the brochure that the owner provided and had a vacation of a lifetime!

We spent nine days at Mi Casa Del Mar as a ‘healing’ vacation after a time of sadness in our family. As others have said, the condo exceeds expectations. There is something about being surrounded by original artworks and décor that have been chosen for a personal home that made us feel it truly was ‘our’ home during our visit. The onsite pool was fabulous and with so few occupants, seemed almost private. Sunrise over the ocean was spectacular and we all enjoyed a morning dip looking out at the blue Caribbean while counting the iguanas on the rocks. Afternoons, we’d swing in hammocks on the shady patio, reading, sewing, or surfing the internet with available wireless. Something for everyone! Even though the weather has been awful this winter in most of the USA, in Akumal, it was 85 every day, and the air was filled with birdsongs and butterflies. We snorkeled in the warm ocean, at the lagoon and for a little adventure, also in nearby ‘cenotes’ (caves.) All fabulous! A favorite memory of mine is walking home from dinner at La Buena Vida, with moon-shadowed palm fronds crossing the brick road. The lights at the ends of driveways of lovely beach homes made me feel like I was in a Hemingway novel. The staff at Mi Casa Del Mar made us feel welcome, safe and secure at all times. We opted not to rent a car, and that worked out fine for us as everything is within walking distance in Akumal. We rented a private van to bring us to and from Cancun to the condo. We rode the ‘collectivo’ once or twice – a very inexpensive public shuttle service that you can flag down on the highway -- and also took taxis to visit the ruins at Tulum and to go shopping in Playa Del Carmen. There are always taxis available in Akumal. Everyone was very attuned to the needs of visitors, friendly and helpful. Akumal has several little shops and restaurants – it took us a few days to find them all tucked away in the jungle -- there is a good selection of snorkle and dive gear, artworks, crafts, souvenirs and vacation clothes. One grocery store has freshly-baked baguettes and specialty breads if you get there early. All in all, the condo was, as we had hoped, a healing, wonderful place. I would definitely recommend it to friends who are looking for an elegant vacation home. Thank you so much Jane and Bill for making our visit easy and wonderful.
Owner response:Dear Linda, Bill and I are so very happy that your time in our home was healing for you and your family. We decided on a last minute vacation & having been to an all-inclusive in mexico & hating it,we decided to look for a condo in a place the was small & not too touristy where we could enjoy good local food & relax. We found it in Akumal & Jane (the owner) was very accomodating & very informative. When we reached the condo it surpassed all our expectations The pictures online didn't do it justice, it was beautifully decorated, high ceilings, large terrace which easily accomodated a table for 4, 2 lounge chairs & 2 great and comfortable hammock swing chairs. The condo was clean & well maintained,it looked so much better than a hotel room Jane had left a great instructional manual about the condo, the staff & the area as well, which made it so much easier You can walk to almost any place in Akumal, it felt like a private community where tourists & locals alike were friendly, speaking a few phrases of Spanish is greatly appreciated. You had many choices of restaurants, we loved Cueva Del Pescador in the main square, Breakfast at Lol-ha was nice but the view was even better,La Buena Vida & La Lunita had wonderful views & were very romantic,we did tip well as the food was great in many places. The town had many activities to choose from like dive shops, snorkeleing in the lagoon at Yal-Ku or a 5 min walk form the condo was a great beach where you could snorkel for free or just stand in the water & see fish or turtles go by.We went to Budha Grdens Spa which was a perfect addition to our vacation. Tulum was only a 25 min ride away, so one could go to the ruins, beach or shop. The condo in itself had all amenities one could want, tv, music system, wi-fi, many of which we didn't spend time using as the view from the terrace was spectacular, the condo overlooks half moon bay, which had the most incredible sunrises to see, picturesque natural beauty. Akumal is a place i'd like to keep a secret as it a perfect vacation for couples and families, we met many people from all over the world & it felt great. We regreted not staying longer because we were so relaxed & felt like we had visited Akumal many a time. We will definetly visit again. Thanks Jane for renting out your condo, it was one of the most relaxed vacations we have had- Shalini & Brad

We recently returned from our vacation and had a wonderful time. My husband, our two sons ages 6 and 9 and I spent a week in Akumal visiting the surrounding area. The condo was well cared for and beautifully furnished. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very relaxing atmosphere and would highly recommend it. The condo/Akumal was in a perfect location, central to sight-seeing and unlike Playa del Carmen, much quieter. The restaurants in the area were all very good. The kids loved swimming in the pool and snorkling at Akumal beach and the nearby lagoon. A highlight for them was swimming among the sea turtles that were passing through. They also loved Xel-Ha. My husband and I enjoyed visiting the Mayan ruines of Tulum and Coba (we recommend renting a bike near the entrance to Coba since it is very hot and the ruines are very spread out). On the return from Coba we stopped at the Grand Cenote to cool of and would recommend it. The kids enjoyed snorkling in the Cenote. They also enjoyed Xcarate. The night show was impressive. We rented a car and found it very easy to get around. Over all it was a very relaxing vacation and a great place to stay.
Owner response:Thank you so very much for your comments. Akumal is truly a wonderland. Please come back to visit! Jane

We stayed at this wonderful condo in this wonderful place for our homeymoon. It was arranged for by the groom's father and couldn't have been nicer. We had a little difficulty finding someone to let us in, as we didn't arriv entil after 11:00 PM on a Sunday night, but everyone was helpful and we found the manager within 15 monutes. The place was clean and beautifully furnished and decorated. We spent hours and hours snorkeling right in front of the condo, and saw a huge variety of underwater life - what a treat. Maid service was excellent. Akumal is Jon's parents favorite place in all of Mexico, and now we know why - it has everything! - and is so calm and peaceful compared to the "big tourist" towns. Thanks for sharing your wonderful place. We now have a new goal as a young couple of newlyweds - and that is to be able to return to this paradise. Jon and Kami

We recently returned from our first visit to Akumal and stayed in this wonderful condo. The view is absolutely mesmerizing and the owners have decorated the unit with beautiful works of art and antiques. It is clearly a well-loved and cared for home-away-from-home. We hardly left the deck to venture out but when we did, the surrounding beaches and bays of Akumal were stunning. Truly paradise! We can't recommend Mi Casa del Mar more highly and look forward to a return as soon as possible. Our thanks to the Whaleys and the wonderful staff for making it such a special holiday!
Owner response:Thank you so much, Nichole. Mi Casa su casa.
