THE AREA
Ideally located in unspoiled Palenville, NY, close to Woodstock (12 miles), Saugerties (8 miles), Hunter (10 miles) and Catskill (10 miles). Hudson (12 miles). This area hosts many festivals such as Hunter music and cultural festivals, Jazz Festival, Garlic Festival, Woodstock Film Festival.
Antique and art lovers will find treasures galore. Saugerties, Woodstock, Hudson and Catskill all have excellent art galleries and well known antique centers. Catskill, "the new hot spot in the Catskills" with art galleries, bars, restaurants, river front and historic buildings (Thomas Cole House)all close by.
A variety of restaurants (from 4 star to the local diner) in the area as well as farm stands and farmers' markets will satisfy any appetite. Horse lovers note - we are close to H.I.T.S. in Saugerties, NY (7 miles away). Fleas markets and tag sales are weekend treats.
THE HOUSE (a real gem)
This is a real special offering. Could become your home away from home. This soulful country house is situated right on the all season Kaaterskill Creek.....well known for fishing. The backyard, with screened in porch and pergola overlook, fields, established perennial and rock gardens and an organic vegetable garden. (gardener provided) and is totally private.
Windows and porch face the flowing creek with a 10 ft deep swimming hole bordered by a beautiful ridge. Swim with or without suits. Outdoor shower and all season outdoor hot tub, offer lots of play and relaxation. Star gaze into the no light polluted skies. From morning to night, surround yourself in the beauty and peace of nature.
Master bedroom suite with expanded sitting lounge, TV area and private bath overlooks the gardens, stream and field. Large (2 person) shower with glass doors overlooks the garden and stream.
2 Other bedrooms (each with a double bed)share a bath that includes a soaking tub surrounded by Spanish tiles. Kitchen is ready for serious cooking if you wish, fully stocked with everything you'd need for a simple snack or gourmet meal. (Catered meals optionally available). Living room with fireplace windows facing yard and stream.
3 TVs: with cable and DVD/VCR's. Stereo with speakers all over house including outside. Hot tub is on large deck surrounded by garden and overlooking stream.
Original art, hardwood floors, oriental rugs, plants, textiles, furnishings and books create a settled in, lived in and loved retreat environment, where you can curl up with a book in front of the fireplace, work on a manuscript, take a nap after a long hike in the mountains, followed by an outdoor hot tub and star gazing.

The area is awesome: geographically beautiful, great hiking, skiing, lakes, mountains, plus the Hudson River Valley is especially beautiful and close to everything.

I am a nature, art, literature lover.....I fell in love with this place, both the house itself and the setting. We raised our family in this house. It is much loved and cared for. I love the established gardens and am crazy about putting in the organic veggie garden every summer.
