Pineapple House - Kuamoo Road

Guest: Natascha K.
Date of Stay: 02/02/12 Review Submitted: 02/29/12

We had a 1 week stay in the very clean and absolutely well-equipped Pineapple house. The house and garden is lovely and we cannot think of anything that might be missing to make a stay at Pineapple house a wonderful and comfortable stay. The only downturn for us was the location. Kuamoo Road, were the Pineapple house is located, is a quite busy road. The house sits directly next to the road, behind a grass triangle. This grass triangle seems to serve as a general stop locals and visitors as there is a heiau located near the house. The noises of the traffic unfortunately let us feel a little less the Hawaiian spirit and freedom than we usually felt on the islands.

Owner response:Thank you for your review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. The traffic was an issue for us when we lived there, but it all but disappeared at night. That is the reason that we aren't charging $2,000 to $3,000 per week like other locations. Besides, we are usually out enjoying the island during the day when the traffic is greater. Mahalo, again!

Pineapple House on Kauai

Guest: Lou (Midhurst, Ontario, Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/18/11 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

We stayed here over the Christmas holidays and we couldn't have found a better spot. The Pineapple house is centrally located, handy to both the south and the north of the island. Facilities were clean and tastefully decorated. Beds are very comfortable and a crib was provided for our grandson. Kitchen is modern with dishwasher, microwave, all small appliances too. Kathy ensured we had a full supply of spices. There is no need for you to bring beach towels or chairs, snorkeling gear, paddle boards, and even sand pails and shovels for the baby. It is all here! The beach is just a walk away. Shopping is just down the road, about 10 minute walk from the house. And after a day of sunshine and sunbathing you can relax in the hot tub. It was all we had hoped it would be. Thanks Jack and Kathy!

Owner response:The Jones' actually had a family reunion of sorts over the Christmas Holiday as they came from two Canadian provinces and Japan. They were wonderful guests and we appreciate them and the thoughtfulness they showed to us and to future guests. Many of our guests leave snorkel gear behind as it is cheaper to buy it if you use it for several days than to rent from one of the many rental places on the Island. That is one unique thing about renting a home instead of a hotel room. Mahalo Jones Family, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay.

Escaping the Midwest heat

Guest: Rick, Rita, Maya and Marcus from Ann Arbor, Mich.
Date of Stay: 07/27/11 Review Submitted: 09/13/11

Leaving the heat wave of the Midwest behind in Ann Arbor, Michigan we arrived in Beautiful Kauai. The Kids (ages 9 & 11) thought Pineapple House was a cooler name than something like the Coconut House. Surfing at hanalei Bay dominated our stay. Snorkeling at Poipu, Anini and Ke'e (this was spectacular) watching Soul Surfer (the Bethany Hamilton movie) at Poipu beach (open air). Visited the exquisite Hindu (Shiva) temple up Kuamoo Road and the Limahuli Gardens, Kilauea Lighthouse, and Kayaking up the Wailua River (3 houses away) and hiking to secret falls were some of the highlights. We sighted cardinals, the Red footy boohey at Kilauea, green sea turtles at Poiput and...Oh, how could I forget the many visits boogie boarding at Kealia. Mahalo - We hope to be back soon. [Owner note - This guest really took advantage of our central location - They saw most of this beautiful Island in such a short time.]

We found the house beautifyl and comfortable. Central location allowed us to explore from Ke'e to Koke'e. Favorite things were boogy boarding at Kealia Beach (other thoughtful guests have left several boards), hicking the coconut coast bike trail, hiking the Maha' Ulepu Heritage Trail, seeing the Heiaus of Wailua, learning about traditional fishing and agriculture at Kamokila. Also, just up Kuamo'o rd. - the inspiring Hindu Temple and beautiful Kuilau Ridge Trail. 2 visits to Kilauea lighthouse and reserve & the facinating Limahulu Garden. Our quiet, green flight with wings over Kauai was unparalleled. Besides the chickens, we saw a resting Hawaiian Monk seal at Salt Pond Beach, Green Sea Turtles in the surf east of Shipwreck Beach and humpbacks off Kilauea. The Pineapple House was like a home to us here as we experienced an ideal vacation. "just another day in Paradise..."

Truly Everything One Could Want When Visiting Kauai

Guest: Monica (Alberta, Canada)
Date of Stay: 12/19/10 Review Submitted: 12/20/10

This is our first trip ever to the Hawaiian Islands. We chose Kauai for it's quiet feel and natural hawaiian beauty. We are staying here at this lovely little plantation, pineapple house. The feel of the house is very hawaiian, which is why I chose this home by the photos on vrbo. When we arrived, our kids couldn't wait to see inside and they were the first to find their rooms and check out everything. Unfortunately the weather does not seem to cooperate with the time period we will be here so, I am very thankful for this house. It has enough room for our family of 5 (11, 14 &16 yrs) to spread out and relax. The grounds are lovely and the hot tub is a favorite due to the unfortunate weather. The entire house/yard is fenced, so it gives a protective feel. Although it's rainy, it is still warm and humid and we can still be outside under the porch/pergolas. The 3 beds are all very comfortable and clean! The kitchen has everything you need and it is close enough to food stores. It is situated just off a small highway, so during the day it is busy, but at night not so much. It is quite centrally located on the island of Kauai, but a vehicle is recommended to tour around the island, both north and south. I absolutely love hearing the roosters "cook a doodle doos"and seeing both roosters and chickens prancing around the island like they own it! I love it here and if I could, I'd move right in...Thank you sharing your home with us!

Owner response:Monica and Family, We are so glad you are enjoying the Pineapple House. At least the rain is warm and it's not snow! We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay during the holidays and that you have nice weather when you get back to Canada. Did you find the guest book in the home where we recommend restaurants for those times when you don't want to cook? We really like Monico's Mexican food (and we used to own a Mexican restaurant) about one block North on Kuhio highway past the Shell station. Regards, Jack and Kathy

It was God sent for us to be here...The charming beach theme decor, the cozy bedrooms, the lush tropical landscape...It was all here, just as we had pictured it. It brought us all closer together with our young adult sons and their girl friends. What more could a person want. Mahalo, (We'll be back)

What a trip! Wow! Your home is so comfortable. Everything we could have wanted was at our fingertips. When we went to the beach, we had a cooler to pack lunch in, chairs to sit in, towles that we didn't have to fill our suitcase with. We could see that you left many items (spices in the kitchen) to make our trip more enjoyable, but it was obvious that your previous guests were leaving items like croquet games, and boogie boards for future guests. We really appreciated coming to a place where people are so considerate for strangers they have never met. Maybe it is the influence of the Hawaiian spirtual place, next door, the Holo Holo Ku Heiou. Thank you for making your home available to rent through VRBO. It's an opportunity to live like a local in Paradise.

The Pineapple House was great for my winter vacation. Not only was the weather great, but the house is centrally located and so close to both the beach and the river. It shows that this was a decorators personal residence with all the great touches. I loved the private Jacuzzi. The spices left in the Kitchen showed how other guests wanted to share this home experience with future guests. I highly recommend this lovely home.

What an amazing trip we had to Kauai...The Pineapple House is amazing in it's own right...You have thought of everything for the house to make it very comfortable for all that have the special opportunity to be there. Thank you for giving us a big taste of something we would like a lot more of!. We found a restaurant on the north end of the Island called The Hanalei Dolphin which had the best fish we have ever eaten. We recommend it to your list of restaurants for your guests.

We visited Kauai in May, my 3rd visit in 12 months, and stayed at Pineapple House, by far my favorite accommodation. The home is lovely and comfortable, the hot tub and gardens are a wonderful place to relax day and night, and the location is central to EVERYTHING on the island. We will definitely be returning to the Pineapple House!

To all who are looking for that dream Hawaiian vacation, look no further! The Pineapple House is everything and more as described by it's owners. Every single room is beautifully and tastefully decorated, and still, with all of its elegance, there is an uncompromised warmth which made me feel as though I was "home" during my stay. The landscaping is gorgeous, and I cannot imagine a more beautiful setting for a vacation or honeymoon. The Pineapple House is centrally located on the island, which makes doing all the fun tourist stuff that much easier. I was lucky enough to stay here for my first visit to Kauai, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Everything you would ever wish to find in an island holiday is all right here at the Pineapple House. I guarantee you'll have no regrets if you choose this as your next vacation spot - I'm in the process of booking my 2009 trip now!

What a beautiful house, you feel right at home, everthing you need is there and the area surrounding you from every doorway makes it feel spacious and inviting you don't know whether to be inside or out. Both my husband and I had a spirtual connection to this place and had the best dreams ever, when we were there. We will definatly be back to the Pineapple house!

Owner response:Thank you. We are so glad you enjoyed our house and our island!

This was our home when we were fortunate enough to live on the Beautiful Island of Kauai. We were visitors to the island for over 30 years before we moved here. My wife (an Interior Decorator) and I spent 2 years completely remodeling this home and yard. We think it is now the perfect balance of indoor/outdoor living with French Doors from each bedroom and the kitchen to private covered Lanais. The home is known as the Pineapple House due to the Pineapple accents and lighting throughout the home. Several times while we were working on the home local neighbors (complete strangers) stopped by to tell us how much they loved how we were lovingly restoring this plantation house. The Pineapple house is centrally located on the Royal Coconut Coast with a view of the Coconut Grove (2,000 trees) of the Coco Palms resort from the front deck, living room and kitchen. The last Queen of Kauai actually stayed at the Coco Palms resort as did Elvis Presley on several occasions. The wedding scene from "Blue Hawaii" was filmed there, accross the street from the Pineapple House. House Guests of ours when we lived here told us of their spiritual connection with the Island due to its location next to the Holo Holo Ku Heiau, the birthplace of Kauai's Royalty. Since we were transferred back to California we miss the view of both the sunrise and the moonrise through the coconut trees from the front deck or Kitchen window. Please enjoy your stay and tell others of this most unspoiled Hawaiian Island.
