This bright and spacious apartment offers a spectacular panoramic view of the ocean, town and mountains. Fully-furnished with an open-concept floor plan, this casita provides a relaxing environment for those looking for a quiet get-away. It offers a full-kitchen, cozy sitting area, and a king-size bed that can be easily converted to two twins, as well as a full-size futon. Patios to the front and side of the casita provide a great place for morning coffee, outdoor dining, and evening sunset viewing.
Casa Calera is perfect for those who are seeking a Mexican town experience that also offers privacy and solitude. Located on a hillside just above the barrio, the unit has no immediate neighbors and is off the grid for passersby. Hours passed in solitude and silence are often finally interrupted by the sounds of chickens crowing, music playing or dogs barking below, the vital sounds of Mexican life.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, the hills behind Casa Calera offer a variety of hiking paths in the unique desert landscape. If a beach sounds more appealing, great walking and world-class surfing beaches are only minutes away by car.
This small town of less than 8,000 people hosts an international population of residents and visitors who paint, sculpt, build, write, surf, perform, run businesses and enjoy nature. From Casa Calera it is just a 20-minute walk into town for fine dining, gallery browsing, shopping, and a stop at the local bookstore.

We had a lovely time here. The property was comfortable and very well equipped; the kitchen ample and well-provisioned and we loved being able to eat outdoors overlooking the town below. For us being in town and not in a tourist enclave is always an added bonus. We could walk everywhere; do our marketing, find the baker on the side street, sample the restaurants and cafes and wine provisioner, watch the visiting circus troupe setting up their tents. One of our favorite activities was to visit the nearby fishermen's beach at Punto Lobos, watch the boats haul up with the day's catch, maybe buy the makings of dinner, or scramble up the steep slopes on trails leading to spectacular look-offs.Did you find this review helpful? My husband and I stayed in Casa Calera for 5 weeks. Our original plan was to stay only 1 month but we liked it so much we stayed an extra week. The casita is great for a couple. It could accommodate a third person on the futon if you didn't require much privacy. We've stay at numerous other apartments/casitas in Mexico and found this unit had the best kitchen we're ever encountered. This is the first time I ever attempted to use a gas oven in Mexico. This one was simple to use and worked similarly to an electric one. This is also the first time I've ever had sharp knives. And if they had become dull, no problem, there was an electric knife sharpener. And if we couldn't find things to do in Todos Santos or were too tired to try, the casita had reliable internet, a TV/DVD player and many paperback novels. The casita is up on a hill at the edge of town. This gave us an opportunity to observe all kinds of "daily life" happening down below. You'll also get a good work out every time you walk back and forth to town. We were warned that the local dogs might give us trouble. However, we never had any. They might bark at us in the AM going down the hill. Later in the day going back up the hill they were too busy napping. Kate and her mother Jan manage the casita and live in the house above the it. They were very helpful. In addition, the were a very good source of information. Consequently, we had a wonderful vacation and can't wait to return.Did you find this review helpful? This Property, and especially the owner Janet, exceeded my expectations. In the past we have trailered to the Baja and camped near TS. I wanted to try a house rental and this Property met my needs as to size, location & cost. Peggy is an artist & I make jewelry. We both set up operations on the ample patios and worked parts of most days. I was very pleased that the main house was occupied by the owners, as this assured a great deal of security for our belongings. The WiFi internet access was also very important for me, and worked very well. We have a Westie dog who travels everywhere with us so the "Pet Friendly" aspect was crucial. We drive to TS from Pender Island in BC and so we have a vehicle in TS, which is necessary for this and any other property rental here. Walking is not a great option. The TS unpaved roads leave a lot to be desired. Why can't the town hire a grader operator for a few days a month to smooth things out. The roads in town are a like a minefield, but nobody speeds. I would definitely recommend this property and will rent it again in the future. Barking dogs & crowing roosters are a challenge, but Janet supplies earplugs and one quickly gets used to the noises. Hint: close the windows & put fans on low for the night, almost cancels out the noises. We go to the beach every afternoon. Cerritos is the safest, with lifeguards and lots of people near the Beach Bar. All dogs on the beach are friendly and our little guy loved it here. A 5 minute walk down the beach gets you 5 miles of your own "private"beach. Las Palmas is another favorite. Security hint: go on weekends when there will be more people here, it is a little isolated. Buy fish from the fishermen at The Fishermen's Beach" when they come in in the afternoon. They will clean & fillet the fish if you ask. Be careful on most beaches as they are steep with dangerous undertows. Go to the Saturday morning "Gringo" market at La Canada. Enjoy John BRecommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed Casa Calera. The view from the house is spectacular; you can see the town and the ocean in the distance. Janet was a really great host and we can't wait to come back to visit Todos Santas. The only downside of the location was the roosters and dogs keeping my boyfriend up at night, but luckily earplugs are provided. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone looking to relax.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Casa Calera is a great place to stay and Janet and Gary are thoughtful, helpful, efficient hosts, with great connections to the Todos Santos community. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bathroom is beautiful, and to sit out on the patio watching the sun go down and the lights of the town coming on - well, that's just heaven. And in the morning you can watch the town come to life. The location, on the edge of town but close enough to easily walk to the centre, means that you hear the sounds of Todos Santos - the dogs and chickens - which only adds to the charm and is not intrusive. Almost no traffic going by means that it's quiet and private. It was great to have the cell phone for calling locally and to Canada and the U.S. Also the free dvd rentals from Janet's bookstore were good to have. In helping me with a couple of things involving my laptop and car, Janet and Gary definitely went "above and beyond" what was required of them to do. It was like coming home at the end of each day's exploring. A great stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

For our family, returning to Casa Calera after spending the day at the beach felt like coming home! Not only did Casa Calera live up to its listing, it exceeded our expectations. The property is impeccably maintained and is ideal for people with diabilities. We are a family of four and despite its relatively small size, the layout of Casa Calera with its adjoining garden and patio, made it feel expansive. The view is spectacular and the charm of living in "real Mexico" makes Casa Calera a fabulous place to spend some time! We love Todos Santos and will certainly be back. We will recommend Casa Calera to anyone fortunate enough to visit this "magical" town!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, pet owners, families with young children.

When I first arrived in Todos Santos, I was struck by how peaceful it was and how relaxed I felt just physically being there. It's such a quirky little town and there are opportunities for fun and interesting experiences everywhere. My stay at Casa Calera with Janet and Gary was the perfect compliment to my stay in Todos Santos. They are warm and welcoming, and eager to help any visitor make the best of their stay. With their impressive knowledge of the town and the surrounding area, I feel that I was able to explore much more of the town than I would have been able to on my own. The view is spectacular, and the porch is ideal for just sitting out and reading while soaking up some sun. The town center is a short walk, 10-15 minutes, and the beaches aren't so far away. Although they're not in walking distance, Janet and Gary can easily recommend the best way to get there, rental car or not. The Casita is furnished perfectly, and is proportioned beautifully. Get to know their lovable lovable dogs!!! Thank you for everything Janet and Gary! You made my experience in Mexico!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, pet owners, families with young children.

This is a very nice, well maintained location that I will use again. No frills, no gimmicks, safe, good people! My first night they fed me dinner and on my last day they drove me to the bus!! Sitting on the hillside, the house is almost the highest in Todos! Further thoughts are: Unless you are a big time walker like me, You must rent a car. This is not beach front, hear a pin drop rental but, it is an entirely unique and very fulfilling experience. You will see all the sights and hear all the sounds of authentic Mexican barrio. The view is spectacular, suite is very private, wireless internet, cellphone, puppies at your door, it's a great value! I had an excellent time, made lots of friends, ate great fresh food, spent many hours sitting on the patio watching the shadows play on the town below...going for mountain walks with the owner was a bonus too! You will want to take earplugs for sleeping as is the case in all of Mexico. This home is minutes drive from amazing, sandy beaches that will blow your mind. Perfect for 1 or 2 open minded travelers who enjoy people, culture, sun and the warmth of community.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, pet owners.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: We arrived in Todos Santos quite literally by accident in 1995. Vacationing from Portland, Oregon we had planned to cycle the Cape Region over a three-week period. On the second day Janet fell off her bike and broke her arm. The nearest town was Todos Santos, so that is where we spent the next three weeks. We fell in love with the town and moved here full time a year later. After renting for 10 years we built a home and included a rental unit with it. Janet owns the local bookstore, El Tecolote Libros, and Gary is a retired builder/carpenter. Both are sixty years old.
Why the Owner Chose Todos Santos:
It is easy to list the likeable things about Todos Santos. Physical beauty, small-town friendliness, unhurried pace, comfortable bi-cultural relations, wonderful restaurants, an evergrowing arts community. But in reality we did what so many foreigners do when they come to Todos Santos. We fell in love with it, and we don't exactly know why. It is an affair of the heart that transcends any specific reasons we can give.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
We live just outside the barrio. Our views are spectacular-the best in town, and the largely uninhabited hills rise up behind us and offer wonderful hiking. But we are still close enough to the barrio to feel its vitality without being in the middle of it where the noise sometimes exceeds the North American comfort level. A fifteen-minute walk gets us to grocery shopping, restaurants and galleries.
