Riverfront Refuge -- 7 Minutes to Avon-by-the-Sea Beaches Calling all artists, waterfront lovers, birdlife lovers, privacy lovers & beach lovers...... yes, this elevated 2/3 acre riverfront property has all of the above! A Frank Lloyd Wright look-alike stucco ranch set far back on a private lot just 7 minutes to the beach, this home was designed by an artist back in the 30's with a 50's addition in the days when "feng shui" wasn't even in our vocabulary.
For those who don't know this term, "feng shui" is the Chinese term for wind and water, and represents a decorating/house placement term that optimizes the location of a home and positioning of furnishings within the home --all meant to optimize harmony and prosperity. This elevated home epitomizes "feng shui" in that all rooms have full views of the river with wonderful sunrises and moonrises. The incredible and serene landscape always changes -- the river is tidal and flows into the nearby Atlantic Ocean; herons, osprey, egrets and even eagles nest in our trees closer to the river's edge and provide an endless source of wonderment.
The decor of the home is eclectic -- home furnishings come from near and far -- as far away as Tasmania and New Zealand. British born owners enjoy traveling and picking up furnishings and artwork from places they've traveled to. This is not a typical, cookie cutter home. The smaller kitchen is fully equipped with Sub Zero fridge, Dacor stove, dishwasher, and cooking accoutrements. The cozy dining room has six seats around a granite rectangular table and additional seating is available at a nearby round table and outside on a patio.
There is a light-filled living room and an ample sized family room. There are two and 1/2 baths, one newer one with a Jacuzzi and shower within the Jacuzzi, and two more retro-style baths -- 1 full with a tub/shower combination and 1 half bath.
The home is centrally air conditioned with two gas fireplaces. The property has ponds on it a la Frank Lloyd Wright's "Falling Water" home, but in a very modest way. My husband's philosophy is more about enjoying the beauty of life than perfection -- hence everything is not perfect. The house looks across the river at the lights of Belmar, which we find more interesting than looking at the darkness of an ocean at night. The home features all hardwood floors with Oriental and Afghan area rugs.
There is a rustic porch area (enclosed) that's reminiscent of summer camp. We use this area primarily for our plants, but it could be an extra dining/living space and we'll set it up to accommodate guests' needs. Anyone who has visited this home, in particular those with "artistic" instincts, has fallen in love with it -- we hope that you will too.
Because the home has 60 steps going down to the river, it is not suitable for younger children.
