Villa Carolina is a private and serene slice of paradise located in a prestigious area of Coral Bay known as Upper Carolina. Its highly elevated perch is nestled in the hillside bordering the Virgin Islands National Park. The bars, restaurants, and quaint shops of Coral Bay are just five minutes down the hill. The famous North Shore beaches of St. John are less than 10 minutes away. Francis Bay and Maho Bay are the closest. Several beaches toward the East End, like Vie's and Haulover, are also about a 10 minute drive. The incredibly pleasant sands of Salt Pond are maybe 15 minutes away. It's the perfect spot to enjoy both sides of the island.
THIS EXCLUSIVE, GATED LOCATION AFFORDS UNINTERRUPTED, 225 DEGREE, PANORAMIC VIEWS over
the Carolina Valley, all of Coral Bay, out the East End of St. John toward Norman, Peter, Salt, Cooper, Ginger, and Beef Islands, and all the way to Virgin Gorda. That's 30 miles! Directly to the northeast is Drake's Channel and West End, Tortola. Spectacular sunrises on the deck are a sight to behold and star gazing evenings are out of this world. It's unforgettable 'postcard' scenery.
Relax on the expansive pool deck. Sit back in the fully reclining lounge chairs, or retreat to the comfortable wicker furniture in the shade. Float the day away in the infinity edge pool. Read a book and watch the sail boats dance the aqua blue Caribbean. Bring the blender outside and mix up a "Painkiller"; also known as the Virgin Islands daiquiri. Fire up the barbecue and enjoy a meal of local fish or lobster at the outdoor dining table. Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.
Wireless internet access is available throughout the house and poolside, for those of you that just can't seem to leave the real world behind. Shame on you.
The spacious Great Room with cathedral ceilings invites you to relax on the plush Tommy Bahama furniture. Five sets of mahogany French doors flow to the sunny pool deck to make for easy outdoor living. Arched breezeways allow the refreshing trade winds to circulate the villa. Ceiling fans abound, and Mexican tile floors are just another touch of class. The gourmet kitchen has everything you need to prepare fantastic meals in style, and your chef will have plenty of room to get down to business. We haven't overlooked a thing; gas range, dishwasher, microwave, large refrigerator with ice maker, coffee maker, toaster, and a kitchen island with an additional bar sink.
Two bedrooms are located on opposite sides of the Great Room for complete couples privacy. They are similar sized master suites and both have French doors overlooking the pool deck. Identical bathrooms have spacious closets, tiled double vanities and open-air stone grotto showers. An internal staircase leads down to the third bedroom with a private deck and a full bath with stone shower. All bedrooms have queen size beds and the third room has an extra daybed. All bedrooms also have A/C, but it's rarely needed because of the great breezes and ceiling fans.
Villa Carolina is extremely popular and has many repeat guests, so we recommend booking early (6 months advanced) to reserve your week in paradise. If for some reason we are not booked within 30 days of your desired vacation time, please contact us, as we often provide discounts for rentals on short notice.
WE APOLOGIZE, BUT BECAUSE OF LEGAL ISSUES WITH THE POOL, WE CANNOT PERMIT CHILDREN AGES 8 MONTHS TO 8 YEARS TO STAY AT VILLA CAROLINA. SORRY. We do occasionally make exceptions. Just ask.

Villa Carolina -Huge Panoramic Ocean Views! Private,Gated,Pool
Year Purchased: 1988
Why the Owner Chose Coral Bay
If you've ever visited St. John, then you can certainly understand why anyone would want to own a home here. We chose the Coral Bay area to be "on the quiet side" and we choose the homesite for the view and elevated location. We also considered this a very easy and convenient spot to enjoy both sides of the island. While looking at the property for a possible purchase back in 1988, we had to climb a tree to see the view. We almost fell out! When we built the home in 2000, we made sure to leave that tree, and it is right at the top of the driveway now.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa
The location of the property provides for some of the best views on the island. There's just no way that any picture can do it justice. Sunrises are truly amazing. The Villa borders the National Park and is totally private. There is no through traffic. A true escape.
Funky little "shack style" bar. Great burgers, chicken sandwiches and salads. A Coral Bay Tradition for over 20 years.
Bar and Restaurant on the water in Coral Bay. Great views. Nice breezes. Often live music!
$3 to Vai, the local property owner and long time resident, and enjoy the private beach. Not much shade. Great swimming. Plenty of sand. Vai's "Snack Shack" is also open during the busy season.
Locals Bar. Gourmet Market with upscale groceries, meats, cheeses. Really nice outdoor seating at Aqua Bistro Restaurant. Food is excellent! Some other small shops and retail.
Long time, reliable market with the basics. Most convenient to the Villa. Beer, soda, milk, fruit, vegetables, ice cream. Open til atleast 9pm
Well liked breakfast diner in Coral Bay. Eggs, pancakes, fried potatoes. Also, offers pizza on certain nights and sometimes live music.
Waterfront dining for many years now. Nice spot, but the food is never that great. Worth checking out though.
Some of the best snorkeling on the Island. Well known for Starfish and the occasional Dolphin.
Closest to the Villa. Great for turtle sightings. Easy parking. Less crowded.
Great food and cold drinks. Casual, open-air dining. Fresh fish, pasta, daily specials. Often live music.
Nice spot for a reasonably priced dinner. Great view from the Dining Pavilion. This is the campground restaurant.
Arguably one of the nicest beaches on the island. A short walk down a rather flat trail opens up to a postcard of sugar sand beach and aqua blue waters. Good for turtle sightings. Also the start of the Ram's Head hike and the path to Drunk Bay. Shade is kind of limited. No facilities.
The end of a great hike that begins from Salt Pond. Incredible views from the most southerly point on the island. Hike is moderate and roughly 30-45 minutes one way.
End of the road on the south end of the island. Opens up to a rocky beach that is often empty. Good snorkeling.
Local artist with studio at the "end of the line". A nice spot to take a ride one day. The road out to the East End is full of views and incredible scenery.
Easy and convenient beach next to the road. Very large bay. Long beach. Nice views of outlying Cays.
Incredibly nice, open beach. Biggest on STJ. A little bit of a walk from the parking lot. Can be quite busy at times.
Owner's Map of Coral Bay
We have been visiting St. John for about 25 years. This incredible island grabbed a hold of us on our first trip, and we hoped to one day have our own piece of paradise.
We've been fortunate enough to make that happen, and lucky enough to share it with others.
Thank you..................................Sharon and Mickey

This property was beautiful and the owner local agent were both very helpful. The house and grounds are well maintained. The wildlife we saw in the yard included deer, hawks, humming birds, chameleons, and a variety of birds. The views of the bays, ocean, and surrounding islands are incredible. St. John can be a place to be active or just relax and enjoy the beauty. We chose the latter. We would relax in the sun at the pool of the villa in the morning and then head to a different beach each day with a packed lunch. The Coral Bay restaurants can't be beat for a relaxing dinner. We hope to be able to return soon and would chose Villa Carolina

Very good things to say about our stay at Villa Carolina this past August. My wife and I have vacationed at several villas on Coral Bay over the past few years, but none with the breathtaking views that V. Carolina had of the entire east end of the island. The house has an awesome, open layout that looks out over it all. The upstairs showers are amazing; it feels like you're in a grotto, with natural light and a breeze coming in (but fully privacy). Unlike some of the other places we've stayed, it's also a great house to bring kids, as the third bedroom is part of the main house as opposed to a separate floor that needs to be accessed from outside. Highly recommend. Oh, almost forgot - the infinity pool that overlooks the great views makes for a great way to start or end every day when you're not on the beach.

WOW...what a great time we had at Villa Caroilna!! the views and surronding hillside ambience are PHENOMENAL!!!..I normally don't write reviews but after seeing the view of the night sky, while floating in the infinity pool sipping a painkiller, I told myself, I had to remember to write about this place..words are hard to describe the wonders of the Villa..great architecture and wonderful grotto showers added to the overall luxury of this gem..wide doors leading to the pool deck with a view of Tortola and the Drake Channel with too many barrier islands to name. Great access to local beaches and a quick trip to Coral Bay to Lily's Market for a few needed things made the place a wonderful location...Wish I could be there year round, but alas...Can't wait to book my next trip to this wonderful place..stayed at other places on St. John over the years and nothing compares to this place..

Villa Carolina was the perfect villa for his couple from North Carolina! The online photos just do not do it justice.Once you see this beautiful hillside villa & take in the most relaxing and gorgeous "million dollar views," it will take your breath away!! I am such a photography buff that I ended up taking over 900 photos of the villa with its spectacular views to the east of the Virgin Gorda, Tortola, Hurricane Hole & the East End.The postcard views of Coral Bay from the pool deck overlooking the large, infinity-style pool were unbelieveable! Villa Carolina is beautifully decorated with very comfortable furnishings. The kitchen was well stocked with "everything" that you need for the little cooking that we did. The private master bedroom suite offered refreshing linens and A/C after a relaxing day by the pool or beach. Some of our favorites were finding the groceries that had been pre-stocked by Christy's of St. John before we got there. Our flight was delayed twice prior to our arrival to St. Thomas, so when we finally did grill the steaks and enjoy the beer/wine on the pool deck, it was all worth it! Our most favorite was lounging by the pool all day, working on our tans, relaxing, reading, enjoying rum & coke, listening to 101.9 R & B music & chilling!! We kept saying, "it just doesn't get any better than this!" We are always in search of turquoise/blue water and found it at Vie's Beach, Maho Bay, Hawksnest and Trunk Bay.Trunk Bay is not to be missed! WOW!! The water is sooo clear, and the waves gently flow onto the beach. With its soft-sand beach and crystal-clear water it was really tough leaving this one! Boy, the photos I took here & at the overlook area were "out of this world & picture postcard perfect! This was the prettiest beach we have EVER seen!! Don't miss some of the fine restaurants that are in the surrounding areas of Villa Carolina. We enjoyed cool breezes/drinks at Island Blues, good burgers at Skinny Legs, delicious creole at Sweet Plantains & Shipwreck Landing. Enjoyed Shipwreck Landing sooo much that we ended up going back twice to enjoy the cool breezes and our last meal of Nut-crusted chicken with a chutney mango sauce along with a Raspberry mango colada drink! Absolutely delicious & service was great!. Villa Carolina is a special place for us & this was a much needed vacation..one we will cherish. Thanks to the owners for allowing us to share a slice of their paradise...if only for a week!!

Just a quick note to say thanks for sharing your beautiful St. John retreat. We loved the villa and so enjoyed staying there. We thoroughly enjoyed the island, snorkeling, sailing and exploring via dinghy. On our final night, we had Chef Ted come to the villa and cook dinner for us...the food was amazing and he was so much fun! We loved the fantastic terrace, pool and views, along with a perfectly outfitted kitchen and completely comfortable living space. it's obvious that everything was chosen with care and love. Also, Colleen, our greeter, was great. She took good care of us, provisioned for our first night and gave us a brief tour of the island. Many thanks to her, and to you for providing that service. In short, it was perfect and we’ll definitely look forward to a return trip to Villa Carolina.

We have been traveling to the Virgin Islands for several years and have found the place where we have returned to for the last 4 years--Villa Carolina on St John! First of all, St John is definitely the US Virgin Island to vacation on because of its natural beauty and relaxed pace. Villa Carolina is on the quieter end of St John with a gorgeous view of Coral Bay and several British Virgin Islands. It sits on top of a hill and is situated where the deck and infinity pool have total privacy! The house itself has everything you would need for your stay and is charming with its West Indies style decor. My favorite touch are the showers which are rock lined and open at the top--it feels like you are outdoors. Although Villa Carolina is not on the Cruz Bay side with its shops and restaurants, there are several great places to eat in Coral Bay (check out Aqua Bistro and Skinny Legs) and it is only a 5 minute drive down to a beautiful beach. Can't wait for our next trip!!

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Villa Carolina in Coral Bay. After many months of anticipation and planning, we were happy upon on our arrival to the villa. The owners were easy to communicate with and provided everything to meet our needs. We were met upon our arrival and led to the villa and shown everything and had all our questions answered. The villa is absolutely beautiful. The grounds are private and beautifully landscaped and maintained. We can't wait to return.

We just returned from an idyllic week at Villa Carolina in St. John. This was our third visit to the island, but first one to this villa. After a long flight and ferry ride, it was awesome to enter the gates and find beautiful plantings leading up the driveway to a very private setting. We really appreciated the cheese, crackers, fruit, and drinks waiting for us upon arrival. From the website, the pictures of the villa looked quite promising, but in actuality, the villa was even better than the pictures! Much has been written regarding the view, and it is truly spectacular. We spent many hours on the deck, looking out towards Coral Bay harbor, Salt Pond, Tortola, and Norman Island. The overhang from the deck provides shade deep enough to lounge, and the remaining space is plenty big for a sun worshipper. We were two couples and the set up of two master suites was perfect. The furnishings inside and out were comfortable and well-appointed. Especially cool were the outdoor showers! The owners provide everything you would need to make your vacation complete. On our daily beach trips, we took advantage of the folding beach chairs and coolers to pack our lunch. When we returned from the beach, the pool was the perfect size to cool off after a day in the sun. Each night, we enjoyed our own hors d’oerve hour on the deck before heading out to dinner. Shipwreck Landing and Island Blues were our favorites in Coral Bay, and ZoZo's was outstanding for a special night out. Most nights, we would return to our chaises after dinner to watch the stars. Villa Carolina really is everything it is described to be and more!
