Casa Girasol (The Sunflower House) is a large (3000 sq. ft.+) contemporary home on a quiet, private cul-de-sac in the upscale hillside neighborhood of Los Balcones. It is a 10-15 minute downhill stroll (and a $2 - $3 cab ride back up) to the Jardin and center of the lovely, historic colonial town of San Miguel de Allende. Our home is a 2-story contemporary with Saltillo-tiled floors and soaring boveda (curved brick) ceilings, and lots of windows. There are peek-a-boo views of town and the surrounding hills from the windows and balconies.
The lower floor has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths (both with tub/shower combos). El Cuarto Rosa (The Pink Room) has 4 twin beds (bunk beds), a gas fireplace and large closet. El Cuarto Azul (The Blue Room) has 2 twin beds, a gas fireplace, DVD player and large closet. There is a washer and a dryer downstairs as well.
Upstairs, a vintage carousel horse greets you outside the master bedroom, complete with TV, DVD player, Internet connection and Vonage phone. There is an adjacent bathroom with shower. The large and inviting kitchen is well-equipped, and out-fitted with a gas 4-burner restaurant stove. There is a CD player in the kitchen so you can Salsa while blending up fresh Margaritas. Talavera cooking and serving pieces, and ceramic ware for 12 are highlights for the casual to gourmet cook.
The large living room and dining area, with a gas fireplace, is filled with vintage folk art, paintings and antiques. The dining table was made from an old carved door. The down-filled sofa is wonderful for an afternoon siesta or reading/relaxing and also sleeps 2 people. The armoire contains a TV with cable (and English-speaking programming) and a DVD player. There are DVDs and various games, puzzles, art supplies and books for the whole family. The balcony off the living room has a table and chairs for sipping that Margarita or enjoying the sunsets and San Miguel's wonderfully temperate climate.
San Miguel is a delightful town -- full of history -- with colorful festivals and pageants many times during the year. You can visit the indigenous, outdoor, and crafts markets; Botanical Garden, galleries, shops, spas and restaurants; take any number of art/photo/language/cooking courses; hike, swim, golf or RELAX. Outlying towns such as Guanajuanto (famous for its leather goods) and Dolores Hildalgo (known for its Talavera ceramics and tiles) make for wonderful day trips. While San Miguel is almost 500 years old, nearby are modern amenities such as new grocery stores and movie theaters. Our housekeeper, Marcela, will help you settle in and assist you if you need a cook or driver during your stay. HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME! |
