Private Shoreline Cottage on Vinalhaven Island
This private getaway with 350 ft of unobstructed ocean front is one of the most beautiful spots on Vinalhaven Island. The cottage located on Dyer Island, one of 46 smaller islands that make up Vinalhaven, offers spectacular views of a protected cove off Hurricane Sound. The cottage is perfect for families, nature lovers, writers, artists, photographers, kayakers, or those just wishing to unwind. Visitors can explore by kayak and observe the unparalleled beauty of the island coast.
The Cottage is located just two miles from "downtown" Vinalhaven. Access to Vinalhaven is by Maine State Ferry Service daily, then by your car, or bike, or a leisurely walk along winding island roads.
The cottage built in 1988, is a cedar shingled loft style floor plan sleeps five very comfortably. The second floor includes a master bedroom with king size bed, a private bedroom with two twin beds and a full bathroom with bathtub and shower. The first floor has a third private bedroom with two additional twin beds and an adjacent half bath.
The balance of the living area contains a spacious open floor plan with a full kitchen, eating area and living room complete with an oil fired monitor to take the chill off of the cool nights. A full size washer and dryer are located just off the kitchen. Two large picture windows and sliding glass door leading to the deck provide spectacular water views from anywhere in the kitchen and living area.
From deck and living area, watch osprey, purple heron and eagles fish the shallow waters of the cove or watch the ever-changing beauty as the sun sets in the west. Walk from the deck down steps onto the large lawn leading to the shoreline.
The 'downtown' of Vinalhaven offers something for everyone. Stop at the Lobstermen’s Co-Op to buy fresh lobster for dinner. Stroll into Annabelles for ice cream or coffee. The grocery store has just been expanded, and can provide most everything one requires. Bring your children to 'Go Fish' for old time penny candy or to find a special gift. Enjoy a casual breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the Haven or one of several other restaurants.
The island also has several fresh water quarries, safe for swimming, or sunbathing. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy any of the numerous nature preserves, Brown’s Head Lighthouse, views from the top of Tip-Toe Mountain or stroll the rugged shoreline of Lane’s Island.

Policies: Adults and children welcome. NO PETS. Outdoor smoking only. Check-in time is 2 pm. Check-out time is 10 am. All supplies including linens and towels are provided.
Deposits: Once you have agreed to lease this property, a property lease will be sent to you. The property will be placed on hold for seven (7) days awaiting your return of the signed lease with the 50% deposit and security deposit. The balance in full should be received thirty (30) days prior to the start of the lease.

We were so pleased with our experience at this property. It was located on a peaceful cove and very private but we didn't feel isolated. The location is convenient to the 'downtown' making it easy to pick up groceries and visit restaurants. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cookware so we often ate primarily 'at home' enjoying the relaxing location. The master bedroom has a king size bed that had to be the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in! You can wake up to a beautiful easterly view from the window adjacent to the bed which was a most pleasant way to start the day. It was a comfortable home that felt 'cozy' yet the owners did not have it set up in a manner that made you feel as though you are in someone else's home. The owner was very responsive to our needs and provided an introduction to the property and island that was useful. We would definitely recommend this property and, hopefully, visit again. The island has so much unspoiled natural beauty and peace. The Library and Historical Society are 'must' visits with amazing collections and historical perspective.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
