Charming One-Bedroom Apartment with King-Sized Bed in Annecy.

  This location was spectacular. Beautiful historic Annecy. To be staying in the heart of the old town across from the ancient prison was thrilling. This apt. requires much attention and has been in a state of neglect for a long time. None of this is visible in the photos. Some of our complaints: sopping wet towels upon arrival, heater in bedroom was about to fall off the wall, under cupboard lighting and wall plug in kitchen hanging on only by years of built up grease, washing machine broke down while we were there and flooded apt. below. Two-toned yellow painted walls smudged and filthy with soot. Several burned out bulbs with no replacements in apt. No colander or large pot for simple pasta meal. No lids for any of the pots. Rude and arrogance displayed by owner when informed of the problems.

  Owner response: The reviewer was the woman who called SCREAMING that “someone had to bring her kitchen shears, since she couldn’t possible cook without kitchen shears….. “ We suggested she buy her own and take them home as a souvenir if she really needed them. No doubt she considered that rude. Mind you, there are regular shears as well as knives in the kitchen. That was only one of many hysterical calls. She could not figure out how anything worked: except the telephone in the apartment. Not to mention that the washing machine didn’t just break, it overflowed perhaps because she overloaded it, according to the repairman who was called. She called SCREAMING that she couldn’t find a cutting board, until it was pointed out to her that it was sitting on the counter. She’s Canadian so she should have been able to speak French but she apparently didn’t communicate with the housekeeper who returned twice and threatened to quit if he had to see her again. There is a colander, which she apparently could not find, just like the cutting board, and there’s a perfectly adequate set of pots for boiling pasta, although, like the kitchen shears she no doubt had her own ideas. There’s no soot on the walls and no working fireplace. Where would it come from? It’s electric heat. And the towels are not hung up wet for the customers. Just read the other reviews and compare them with this rant.

  My husband and I rented the apartment for a week in October and were delighted. It was just as described. Clean and simple. Bright sunshine bursts through the french doors on a nice afternoon. The doors open to a small balcony overlooking the canal and all the rest of the charming old city. Fabulous views! We recommend it if you're looking for a spot right in the heart of the old city. It's not fancy, but everything you need is provided. Great place to base your visit to the Alps and beautiful Annecy. Don't miss fondue at Le Freti, crepes at Bleu de Toi, and pizza at La Sapaudia.

  Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing.

  I would like to thank you once again for the rental of the Annecy apartment. I must express our happiness upon arriving at the top of the stone staircase, opening the apartment door and entering your lovely apartment. Our first view of the Annecy prison, canals, and castle was from your windows, and we said repeatedly, ''Oh my God!'' with wonder and absolute delight. Every comfort was provided for, and most appreciated. We commend you on the special touches that made us feel at home, away from home.
