Your own island!! Who has not dreamed of having one? This little gem of an island can be yours for a week. Little Diamond Island is a 1/4 acre island located in Lake Cobbossee in West Gardiner Maine. Just 20 minutes from the Capitol city of Augusta you are close to restaurants and shopping but in a setting that is private and close to nature.
Little Diamond Island in Lake Cobbossee is a unique lake front vacation rental. Rustic 3 room cabin with lake views from every window. The lake is just steps away in any direction. Sandy bottom swimming areas and the lake is great for boating, canoeing, kayaking or jet skiing.
Island vacationing is not for everyone. If you love camping ( not the same as RV'ing) you will love this. It is a lot like camping except you have a real bed to sleep in. Rustic in nature there is no electricity or running water. We do provide a composting toilet, propane stove and refrigerator, solar campers shower. The cabin has one bedroom with queen size bed and a day bed in kitchen area. Maximum occupants is 3. We supply blankets, comforters and pillows. We do not supply sheets or towels. To reach the island we provide a canoe, two paddles and 2 life vests.
This is a peaceful spot for anyone who loves nature. Except for the occasional boat the only sounds you hear are the young osprey begging for food in the nest above the cottage and the mournful cry of the loons as they float past the island. You can see nesting osprey, pileated woodpeckers, loons, heron, turtles and occasionally bald eagles and otter.

We rented this cabin because my boyfriend loves to camp and I don't, so I wanted something with some comfort but that was also a truly rustic getaway. It ended up being absolutely perfect. Being on an island was a very cool experience, and the cabin itself is exactly like the pictures - very nicely done and full of charm. The large sliders bring in tons of light and make you feel like you're outside. The mattress is great, the propane fridge and stove make cooking easy, and the composting toilet is actually way nicer than I expected (honestly I was afraid of that part). The owner Deb provided lots of detailed info that made everything easy, and if you feel the need to venture into civilization, there are some amazing restaurants within a short drive. This is really the perfect place for getting away from it all. I hope we get to come back again soon!

Deb ~ The three of us had a marvelous, memorable first visit to Little Diamond Island. Emotions ran from contentment to wonder to introspection about what had been planned and the new reality; this year's visit will be the first of a regular annual visit in honor of Pat and her selection of this ideal spot. My daughter and granddaughter are wanting to join me next year. So much I could tell you ~ the morning sunrises, the kayaking and swimming, birds - including loons, cormorants, sea gulls, pileated woodpecker, hummingbirds, and osprey (with a nest on the island!), lobster, Gardiner, and even a visit to friends in Damariscotta. And that doesn't even mention the thunderstorms on our last Wednesday evening plus the amazing and colorful sunset thereafter as well as the cabin left us dry and comfortable while we wined, dined, and enjoyed the show. The stay couldn't've been more full and fulfilling, under the circumstances. This "enforced downtime" and simple existence for just a while withdrew us from the hustle and bustle of our otherwise high-tech life and frankly gave us a new perspective on what's important. It is a perfect choice for remembering the love of my life, someone who loved Nature and such quiet and relaxing times with those she loved. Thank you so much for having this island getaway available for me and both my family and friends for years to come.

This little gem of an island cottage was absolutely perfect! We enjoyed our stay so much, that we definitely will be returning. The cottage is equipped with everything you will need, to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. The island is tucked away in Wentworth Cove, which is shallow and rocky. This keeps away the large power boats and makes for a very serene setting. Throughout the night we could hear the loons calling back and forth to one another, birdwatching was spectacular. I highly recommend this quaint little cottage for a perfect get away from civilization. An ideal setting to get back to nature and enjoy the quiet.

My wife and I had a great week in late August living on the island with the Osprey and hummingbirds!!! We both really enjoyed the quietness, the cabin is cozy and the bed is comfortable. The sitting room is so relaxing when you open the doors and let the breeze and sounds of nature flow through the room. There is a grill and floating rafts to use. The stove and fridge both worked great. Also the “composting” toilet was more than acceptable…just like a real one (without the water). Very clean, without odor and most time there were no bugs or at most a minimum amount were to be found. The paddle out took all of two minutes tops. I can personally attest that the fly-fishing in the surrounding area is ideal for bass; the fish are literally in your backyard no more than 50 yards away. There is even an anchor for the boat in the shed. We found a great gourmet deli/wine/beer store that has all sorts of libations from around the world and food to go that you can get raw of they will cook it for you. Also they will steam lobsters etc….its only 10 minutes away; at the corner of lake and 202 (next to the Conoco’s) I can’t remember the name, we put their flyer in the folder. Also we found a great antique store with many dealers in Fairfield, ME. About 25 minutes away but well worth the trip compared to other stores. Lastly, Debbie the owner was very polite, professional and down to earth, she made the rental process very easy. We have many fond memoires from there that will be with us forever. It’s a real Maine delight is right!!!

a beautiful place to stay.very private and cozy.a great place for a family to reconnect.the cottage was very cute and homey.the lake was pristine.a great place for bird watchers, the osprey nest was a bonus.we got to see momma tend to her babies.my two children ages 6 and 4 had a great time.they loved going on boat rides.without the distraction of television and computers they used their imaginations, they learned to play with each other in a new way, without bickering.i loved this place,it was clean and had great energy.my family enjoyed themselves, but it would also make a great romantic getaway;) we will definitely return to the little island.the owner of this property was a pleasure to deal with.
